What were everyone's thoughts on Metroid Prime 3?

It's a good entry point - more shooter-ish ie setpieces, fast travel and no longer isolated. It still plays amazingly but I can definitely see why fans who miss the classic-y Metroid wouldn't be all over it.

Much better than 2 but not as good as 1. It's hard to go into detail on why though since it's been about a decade since I've played them.

It's good, but definitely the weakest of the trilogy. I also very much disliked the introduction of cutscenes and conversations with other characters. It ruins the feeling of solitude that the player should feel when playing a Metroid game. There was also some weird anti-science conservative bullshit if I recall, which could be found in the codex by analyzing the environment of the fire planet. Something about the end of the world erupting because of sciencists with another religious faction being all "I told you so". I remember it rubbing me the wrong way because it felt preachy. Retros is in Texas, so maybe that explains it?

Prime 2 > Prime 3 > Prime 1

Prime 3 on the whole had stronger boss fights than average.

Federation Force is basically taking what made prime 3 different, cranking it up a fuckton, and adding a multiplayer element.

The way I rate is 1>3>2

Prime 3 was a great game. Great controls, decent story, Great atmosphere, and Great pacing.

Only big flaw was the fact that it alluded to a sequel that would never be.

I love how all-over-the-place different the personal rankings of the Prime series are!

It also supports my own opinion of Prime 1 = Prime 2 = Prime 3. I love them all, couldn't rank them because all of them have their own high points and, yeah, all of them also have different flaws. (My nostalgic high point in the series is still Prime 1, but I can't say Prime 1 is better than Prime 2 and 3 because if Prime 3 was the first one I played for example, that would be the one I'm nostalgic for... At the time it was released, Prime 1 was just the perfect storm and a landmark videogame, the others followed the basic formula so there's that.)

Prime 1 nailed atmosphere and exploration. Prime 2 nailed difficulty and feel of isolation. Prime 3 nailed story and pacing.

Prime 1 felt a bit formulaic at times. Prime 2 missed a bit of the atmosphere which made Prime 1 so very "Metroid in 3D". Prime 3 showed some signs of fatigue and felt a bit "been there done that" even though it is still an excellent game.

(Motion controls are a matter of taste. I prefer them so much that I couldn't imagine playing Metroid Prime on Gamecube again after owning the Wii collection.)

I am glad Retro could take a break from the series because when and if they return for another Metroid game, it will a) feel fresh again and b) they might have new ideas and use better console tech for an even more atmospheric experience and enhancements.

After my playthrough, my least favorite of the trilogy but still incredible. I think it's my least favorite because of planet hopping (although it's pretty cool at the same time, so I'm conflicted) and the action sequences felt a little out of place compared to MP1 and 2. Also the voice acting and other characters seemed tacked on.

I'm sort of replaying all 3 again though, so maybe my opinion will change on a replay. Either way, still incredible and a million times better than Other M.

Weakest of the 3 for me. Maybe I was a bit burnt out since I played the entire trilogy everyday for 5 hours for 2 weeks. Still a excellent game though.

OG prime is my favourite by far, but although 2 is more similar to it than 3, i prefer 3 because i think it succeeds at what it sets out to do better. it's more accessible, with great action and pacing... and no ridiculous difficulty spikes. just feels like a more coherent game.

Liked it less than 1 and 2. I imagine Nintendo/Retro tried to insert some more typical shooter hooks into the series to get more people playing.

Good stuff, but I never finished it. The load times between rooms seemed a lot worse than the first couple of games (which weren't all that great either), so it became annoying to play it after a while.

It was a poor decision to add voice acting to the game. The character design was also bad. Though the pointer and motion controls worked very well. Ditching lock-on worked better than I would have thought.

Overall better than 2, but not as good as the first one in the trilogy.

Metroid Prime - 10/10 - Greatest game of all time.
Metroid Prime 2 - 9/10 - Amazing game.
Metroid Prime 3 - 8/10 - Great game.

I really need to get the trilogy and replay these. Prime 3 fell into some AAA traps and lost the intimate connection the player builds with the environment through gameplay, but it was still really enjoyable.

Also the character design was very bad. Metroid should never have NPCs.

I hated everything about it which is why I'm not at all interested in another Metroid game from Retro. It's in my bottom 3 with Zero Mission and Hunters.

I thought it was an amazing game, and a great finale to the trilogy.

I thought the supporting characters were really weak and were killed off too quickly. They had a lot of potential to be interesting, yet before you even get to know them, they're already dead by your hands.

I just hated the feeling that I was killing off my former teammates one by one throughout the game. It was very demotivating.

Other than that, no complaints. Still have very fond memories of Sky Town, one of my favorite locations in the whole series. It was breathtaking.

I certainly wouldn't go that far, but I agree that I don't want a Metroid game from Retro. The current AAA climate would not allow them to make it properly. There would be cinematics, NPCs, overly extravagant worlds, etc. None of that works for Metroid.

I probably liked it the most of all the three. I really loved the way they streamlined the game. Some of the aspects of exploration in 1 and 2 really sucked, things which I usually wouldn't mind in a 2D Metroid. To me MP3 was an improvement.
I also think it's one of the best games using motion controls, also one of the rare games that uses motion controls well in general. I haven't played the trilogy yet so I only know 1 and 2 with the cube pad.

Good game, but easily the "worst" in the Prime trilogy. It's way too linear compared to the other two, or any metroid game for that matter (not sure about Other M, never played it)

I felt they focused way too much on combat due to the wii controls, and ultimately it brought the game down. Still a solid game, but no where near the first 2 for me.

-I didn't like the linear shooter setpieces at the beginning and ending of the game

-I didn't care for the increased linearity in general.

-Boss battles were laregly tedious damage sponges.

-Having previously cleared arenas infested by a tedious enemy that can only be killed in Hypermode was a really, really dumb choice.

+The controls are amazing.

+The visuals are on-point, as always.

+Skytown was neat, I guess.

It's an OK game. I didn't like it.

Despite all its issues, Corruption was a good ending to the trilogy.

pros:
  • felt the most SM to me - the IR controls, combined with more platforming sections made for a very agile SM-in-3D experience - decisively more so than what the original Prime achieved.
  • the story was ok, even made perfect sense at some sections. Generally left me content with the series (something few other series manage).
  • some of the best locations in the trilogy art- and atmosphere-wise (Retro - masters of the medium, duh)
  • a good introduction of Federation and Pirate (home)worlds - locations met my expectations of how those worlds should be presented in the series.
cons:
  • the narrative - I had to abstract myself from it the entire time. At the end, it did not distract me as much as I originally feared, though. In this regard GFS Valhalla was a bliss - one of the top locations of the series and no chatter!
  • the headhunters boss fights. I.. I'll just say Echoes' boss fights were on an entire different plane of existence.

Prime 1 is my favorite but 2 and 3 are pretty equal in my opinion.

Skytown and the Valhalla are 2 of the best locations in the whole series.

It was great in its own way. The environments were particularly awesome. Skytown, obviously, was amazing, but Bryyo and the Pirate Homeworld were no slouch either.

Weakest of the 3.

Samus' suits look way less cool than in the other 2. The extra characters are lame. And changing from the awesome prime style music to (mostly) "generic space game" music was a really bad choice.

I gave up on it halfway through. I appreciate how they actually tried to have fun FPS mechanics this time around, but it still didn't work out. It's just not any fun to shoot things and it still has the same unfun movement from the other Prime games.

I'm glad that Retro moved on to Donkey Kong because those games are great.

The first game is essential, especially if you played 2D Metroid.

It's SMB to Mario 64. Super Metroid to Metroid Prime.

I personally dislike SM, but I think Prime is Nintendo G.O.A.T.

It would be out of context, but i hope you mean sadomaso. Super Metroid is dope.

Simplistically linear compared to the previous ones and the hidden load times were sometimes irritatingly long ( shoot a door.. wait 1 minute for it to open ) but other than that I liked it a lot: supersmooth controls, crisp visuals and allround fun experience.

Just feels a little lightweight compared to the others.

One thing i didn't like about Prime 3 is how it felt like the whole world was build with Samus in mind. I mean, Other Metroid games have this too but Prime 3 took it on the silliest level. Why would an ancient civilization have an ancient locking system that happens to be the exact same feature Samus has in her weaponry? Why would the space pirates have gates and other devices that have a morphball slot to operate? Doesn't make any sense and kind off distracted me from the game world.

Good game, but I didn't like the introduction of more NPC's. That really takes the feeling of isolation out of the game for me. The less story, characters and dialogue, the better. Still a good game but ultimately not as memorable as the first 2, mostly thanks to the lesser environments.

Weakest of the three but still an excellent game by its own merits that brings the Prime trilogy to closure as easily one of if not the highest quality trilogies in video games.

Pretty much sums it up. Amazing game, almost as amazing as the two that preceded it. The controls are great, and there are some very cool locations with a great art direction, but I miss the complex interconnected areas from the first two Prime games.

Weakest of the three Prime games but still a fantastic game :D.

Wiimote controls that feel great to use, the visuals look amazing, the levels while more linear still are fun to explore and it does a good job incorporating VA'd story in a Metroid game.

Fantastic game that is a lot of fun :). Just not as good as Prime 1 but its hard to be as good as Prime 1 XD!

C'mon, how can you call a game with a boss fight as good as Quadraxis "disastrous"?
Quadraxis is an overrated boss fight. It promises you a fight against a gigantic spider mech but while the first third makes good on this the last two thirds of the fight are against a boring floating head.

The tired adage of "highest highs and lowest lows" really applies to this game. Some of the sections of the game are definitely my favorite in the entire Prime series. Some sections are absolutely the worst.
