Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal - Made of pure explodium. Very fun, even played online a little.

Already posted, but Katamari Damacy (and We Love Katamari is great as well). It's like my 5th favorite game of all time or something. I'm listening to its music as I type this. So yeah, the music had a lot to do with this decision.

Also, I anticipate Persona 4 will be a favorite once I get around to playing it next month. I'm trusting GAF on this one.

All 3 Xenosaga games
Tales of the Abyss
Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII
Dragon Quest VIII
Persona 3 & 4

There's plenty of others I enjoyed a lot, but the above were definitely my favorites.

Let's do this.

Hell yeah, motherfucker.

Persona 4 is my favorite PS2 game, bar none. I'm don't even particularly care for JRPGs and its still god tier.

Its also hard to deny SotC.

1. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
3. The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2
4. Shadow of the Colossus
5. Killer7
6. Ico
7. Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner
8. Gran Turismo 4
9. Yakuza 2
10. Zone of the Enders

pretty much first batch of games I got for my PS2 have been my favorite. PS2 had so many awesome games I can make a list all day, something I can't say about this generation.

Silent Hill 2
FFX
ICO
DMC
Shadow of the Colossus
Onimusha
MGS2
GTA Vice City
GTAIII
RE: Code Veronica
GT3
DQVIII
God of War

The PS2 for me was all about music games. When I got into Beatmania IIDX, it became an obsession with me in college. It was how I let off steam and helped get me through a lot of the tough crap. I also really enjoyed the Dance Dance Revolution PS2 games, especially DDR: Extreme 2. I remember getting up at 5 in the morning to gas the school vans to save up for that game. It was worth it.

Also really enjoyed Amplitude, Guitaroo Man, and Space Channel 5. Parappa 2 was okay, but the quest my friends and I took to find that game in the small town I went to college in was actually much more fun than the game was. Funnily enough, my love of music games died out with Guitar Hero, right when everyone else began to like them. For the rest of my college career, the only music game I really got into was Singstar which was a huge hit at parties.

Those were the good ole' days.

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal

Both games are so awesome. The first one is pretty good too but I played it after the 3rd and 2nd so it was a bit of a step back after that.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - Not my favorite MGS, but it was my fave PS2 MGS.

DMC 1/3: Who knew that we'd be hard pressed to find this kind of awesome action game goodness in the future? I recently bought the Special Edition cuz I wanted to see how Virgil played.

I would say Mercenaries but I played it on Xbox. For some reason I can't think of many others.

Twisted Metal: Black
Final Fantasy X
Silent Hill 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
SSX3
Zone of the Enders
Metal Gear Solid 2
Silent Hill 3
Final Fantasy XI
ICO
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
The Legacy of Kain: Defiance
The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2

There are more, but I'm too tired to recall them at the moment.

There are tons of great PS2 games, this is barely scratching the surface:

Prince of Persia Sands of Time
Persona 3
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Shinobi
Psi-ops
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
Shadow of the Colossus
ICO
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Gran Turismo 3
Soul Calibur 2 and 3
God of War 1 and 2
Final Fantasy X

The games I personally enjoyed most on PS2:

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.

Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies. I assume the reason I didn't see this in every post is some kind of malfunction in my laptop.

Katamari Damacy. Pure joy in videogame form.

Dark Cloud 2. THE underappreciated gem of the PS2 generation.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. So much more than environmental puzzles and combat. Beautiful but also somber, with a surprising story and two main characters you actually want to hear talk to each other.

Resident Evil 4. The best Resident Evil game of all time, and I say that as someone who really loves resource management. Perfect pacing, full of variety. Everything is so polished and there are so many tiny extra touches that it starts to feel a little Kojima-esque.

DMC3:SE. This game. I still remember getting it home, and watching the trailer that plays on the menu screen, where it shows clips of each different ability. Wait, you can surf on top of enemies? You can STOP TIME?

Incredibly deep, tons of fun, creative bosses, top-notch graphics, attitude to burn. The mission structure and scoring system give it replayability GOW can only dream of. My favorite game on PS2.

Final Fantasy X/XII
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X
Metal Gear Solid 2/3
Zone of the Enders 2
Radiata Stories
Suikoden III/V
GTA: Vice City
Silent Hill 3
ICO/SotC
Odin Sphere
Tales of the Abyss
Dragon Quest VIII

Got daym that's a lot of godly games. PS2 truly has the best game library ever.

In no particular order;

Shadow of the Colossus
Zone of the Enders 2
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII
God Hand
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Devil May Cry 3
Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari
God of War 1/2

BULLY
Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence
Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Yakuza
Katamari Damacy
Guitar Hero
God of War
God of War 2

In no particular order...

  • Persona 4/3 FES - Personally, P4 was the last time I had a lot of fun with a console RPG and P3 was the only RPG that I both spent over 140+ hours on and triple-dipped on.
  • Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne/Digital Devil Saga - SMT was on beast mode in the PS2 era
  • Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - *Sigh* What in the fuck happened to you these days, tri-Ace?
  • Zone of the Enders 2 - The sequel of the millennium for me.
  • Gundam SEED Destiny: Alliance vs. ZAFT II+ - And who ever said Gundam games couldn't actually be good?
  • Front Mission 5 - Awesome SRPG, awesome send-off for the series (Evolved does not count)
  • Silent Hill 2/3 - Pretty self-explanatory here.
  • Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter - So good it killed off the series (for now. believe.)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence - The Boss 4 Life.
  • Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War - Razgriz Squadron 4 Life. So cheesy, but oddly deliciously slow. Too bad AC titles haven't really topped either 5 or 4.
  • Okami - Yeah, fighting a certain boss three times too many was a real drag, but I liked the game, and I liked the entire "just put three games in one package" approach.
  • Devil May Cry 3 - DMC3 was still quite fantastic even despite how it got beaten out by Ninja Gaiden Black in my eyes.
  • Tales of the Abyss - Just to think; if Namco was just a little bit more competent in a lot of things, this game certainly could have been quite legendary.

-Metal Gear Solid 3 (fav MGS game)
-Metal Gear Solid 2 (fucking fantastic)
-GTA Vice City
-GTA San Andreas

Far and away my favourite PS2 games, and all are in my top 20 games of all time.

  • Metal Gear Solid 3 - WHAT A THRILL~ always sends a chill down my spine (especially the ladder part)
  • God Hand - Bought this on a whim when the Gamestop employee told me the game was garbage. Jokes on him, it's one of the best PS2 games.
  • Rogue Galaxy - Even though this game had it's fair share of problems I thought the whole idea of Sky Pirates was pretty rad (same goes with Skies of Arcadia). Holding out hope for a sequel on the PS3.
  • Persona 4 - I lent this game out to one of my friends in the middle of me playing it so I have yet to finish it. But from what I have done in it the game is definitely a keeper.
  • Katamari Damacy - Gameplay is great. Soundtrack is where this game definitely shines.

Too many to list really, but I'll try:

ZoE2
GTA3/VC/SA
Gran Turismo 4
Burnout 3 (best arcade racer ever)
Virtua Fighter 4:Evo (best 3D fighter ever)
MGS3
SSX Tricky (best snowboarding game ever)
DMC3 (best stylish action game ever)
RE4
Silent Hill 2 (best survival horror game ever)
Katamari Damacy
God of War 1/2
Jak & Daxter
Ace Combat 4

PS2 library is ridiculously good
