What were your System sellers?

Due the lack of Games and especially Jrpgs i bought at first a Xbox 360

The main reason were games like:

Xbox 360:Tales of Vesperia ,Lost Odyssey,Blue Dragon ,Gears of War

Some years later i also bought a Ps3, after Sonys Console was finally recovering and brought out great exclusive games

Ps3: Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Demon Souls,

PS3: Valkyria Chronicles
Xbox 360: Bayonetta
PSP: Valkyria Chronicles 2
PS Vita: Gravity Rush
3DS: Bravely Default (regret buying it)

DS - Pokémon Diamond
3DS - Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I didn't really base any of my other console purchases on just one game.

NES = Super Mario Bros. (i loved that game in the arcades and when i found out it came free with the NES, i had to put it on my Xmas wish list)

SNES = Actraiser, Castlevania 4, Gradius 3, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (just a mix of good games. i rented the system a few times before i bought it ...and the few games i mentioned contributed to that purchase)

PC = The 7th Guest, Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers, Star Wars Rebel Assault, Doom, and the best version (at the time) of Mortal Kombat.

Nintendo 64 = the AKi Corp wrestling games ...ie, WCW vs NWO Revenge, etc.

Defining "system seller" as "first game I bought for the system":

N64 - Super Mario 64
GameCube - Super Smash Bros. Melee
PS2 - Final Fantasy X
DS - Super Mario 64 DS, Pokemon Diamond Version
Wii - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
3DS - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Wii U - Mario Chase (Nintendo Land)
PS3 - Demon's Souls

Other games that definitely helped justify these purchases:

GameCube - Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2

Playstation 3 - Uncharted & Ratchet ToD
Wii - Donkey Kong Country Returns (regret this system so much)
PSP - FFVII: Crisis Core

Xbox One - Killer Instinct

MS owning Rare and Rare IP means I'll always put Xbox first...just waiting for that return to glory...*cries*

I will get a PS4 for Uncharted 4 and a Wii U whenever a new Metroid or Zelda release.

Megadrive - Sonic The Hedgehog
Saturn - Virtua Fighter
Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure
Xbox - Halo/Panzer Dragoon Orta/JSRF
360 - Gears of War/Halo 3
PS3 - God of War Trilogy/Uncharted
Xbox One - Dead Rising 3/Ryse/Crimson Dragon
Wii U - Mario

MS owning Halo means I have to have an Xbox, as long they keep the games coming and the quality remains high.

When I was younger my mom would just buy the systems usually, so I didn't really have any consideration of what games were on the system when we got them, heh.

But, for systems I bought myself...

PlayStation 2 - Final Fantasy X
DS - Lunar: Dragon Song (which, ironically, I never bought/played)
Vita - Ys: Memories of Celceta

For the other systems... well, it'd either be a bunch of different games or some sale pushing me to just buy one already (like the PS3, which is now one of my favorite consoles, haha).

360: Halo 3
3DS: Pokemon X
PSP: God Eater
PSV: Danganronpa 2

Future purchases...
PS4: God Eater 2:RB, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3

Can't decide whether I want to get a PS4 or upgrade my PC. Those games are pretty far away..

PS2 - Final Fantasy 10

PS3 - PS+

PS4 - Battlefield 4 - That 64 player sold me on buying it, but we all know how that game turned out and some regrets were had

Xbox 360 - Halo

PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 3
3DS - Resident Evil Revelations

Xbox 360 - PGR 3, Dead Rising
Wii: Wii Sports, Twilight Princess

N64 - none actually, I was too young to buy it myself. My father bought it for me alongside Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, best gaming decision I could've wished for. Both are my two favourite games of all time.

NGC - The Wind Waker

PS2 - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

DS - Phantom Hourglass

Wii - Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess (both not on release though)

PS3 - Skyrim (was on a gaming hiatus since 2005 or so, and Skyrim brought me back in 2011). I was in love and I never immersed myself that much in a game since Ocarina of Time, despite the horrendous PS3 port.

X360 - Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie XBLA ("lost" my N64 and I was dying to replay BT)

3DS - A Link Between Worlds and Ocarina of Time 3D

Wii U - Super Smash Bros. and Zelda U, definitely the latter.

PS4 - None yet, probably a cumulation of their exclusives that I enjoyed last gen.

XBO - Banjo-Threeie or new IPs. And N&B2 would make me never buy an XBO.

N3DS - Majora's Mask 3D
believe

Xbox 360 - Mass Effect

That's actually the only console I've ever owned that I decided to get myself. Growing up, I just kind of assumed PlayStation was all there was so me and my brother got those. I'll probably get a Wii U around Christmas time and a 3DS when the new model comes out in the UK. There's not so much one system seller on these devices as there is just a great selection of exclusive games I'd love to try along with titles I've missed in the past I want to experience.

Then there's the switch to PC I've decided to make which is again is down to the whole package it offers for gaming rather than a single game.

gameboy pocket - pokemon blue
Ps1 - Final Fantasy 7
N64 - Mario 64
Wii U - MH3U
3DS - Animal Crossing and Pokemon Y

Those are the systems I bought because of one driving force rather than a bunch of games.

DSlite: Pokemon Diamond

N64: Mariokart 64

Also got a Gameboy/SNES for birthday/Sinterklaas, but I don't think I was particularly hyped for a game on either systems. Just got one because I liked playing them at a cousin's place, ha.

Master System - Alex The Kid

Since the days where I kept up with game news:

PS2: GTA 3
Gamecube: Mario Kart
360: Assassins Creed E3 demo, then I saw it was also getting GTA4, I was like... yep.
Wii: Mario Galaxy
PS4: Needed a new console, this was the best one, Infamous looked great too.

DS: NSMB
PSP: The technology
3DS: Zelda OOT 3D
Vita: PS+ deals and remote play with PS4

NES - Super Mario Bros. Knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it.
Genesis - Altered Beast
SNES - Final Fight sold me. In retrospect I'm ashamed it wasn't Super Mario World
PS1 - Wipeout
Saturn - Virtua Fighter 2
N64 - Mario 64
Dreamcast - Soul Caliber
PS2 - Grand Theft Auto 3
GameCube - Luigi's Mansion
Wii - Wii Sports
Xbox 360 - BioShock
PS3 - Uncharted 2

I usually just bite the bullet day 1 regardless, because there's always something down the line. There are a few exceptions, though.

Saturn - Virtua Fighter 2. Well, Virtua Fighter in general, really. Turns out that was what Nintendidn't, after being a faithful NES and SNES man.

PS2 - Virtua Fighter 4. Hardcore Sega fanboy throughout Saturn and Dreamcast lifecycles. I left ridiculous platform wars behind and went multiplatform when Sega's games did. Best thing that ever happened to me as a gamer.

Xbox - Jet Set Radio Future. Bought this at Gamecube launch at midnight, when I was going in for a Gamecube but saw JSRF's cover and caved right there.

Wii U - Sonic Lost World, because Colours was the bees knees. Lost World wasn't.

In retrospect I think I probably bought the PSP for Lumines. I don't think that was the rationale back then, but it ended up basically being my Lumines box. Pretty much the same way the Vita ended up my Lumines: Electronic Symphony box.

I've become a really big fan of new hardware, so I'm not sure that I can give a good response for anything recently. I can distinctly remember getting my N64 for Super Mario 64 and my PSX for Final Fantasy 7, though. I got an Xbox for JSRF, Gun Valkyrie, and Panzer Dragoon Orta (Seeeeeegaaaaaaaa). I got a Dreamcast for Sonic Adventure. These I can remember clearly.

GameBoy - Pokemon Red
DS - NSMB
Wii - Wii Sports + Mario Galaxy
360 - ES Oblivion + Gears of War
PS3 - Street Fighter IV + LittleBigPlanet

Everything lived up to expectations except for NSMB and LittleBigPlanet, Oblivion was also boring it was my first ES and that series just isn't for me, not sure why I was hyped for it.

I bought a PS4 with inFamous Second Son but that wasn't really a system seller, I just got a PS4 as I got a good deal and knew it would be my next console as a previous PS3 owner. Of course Mario 64, Sonic, Mario Wold would also be system sellers but back then my brother bought the consoles and not me so I wouldn't know.

I bought the DS for Animal Crossing Wild World, and besides that I went with a system first and thought about the games from there. Recently, it's been several games that have sold me on consoles, PS4 and Vita being my recent purchases.
