What Will You Do If Microsoft's Console is More Powerful?

I was always buying both, so I don't care what they do.

The power bullshit is for fanboys on forums. The PS3 is technically "more powerful" and in real terms in meant 2 things: fuck, and all.

I expect the same this time around.

I was also planning to do this buy both at least year 1.
Personally i hope sony does something like Xna for ps4 but in C++ with full access to GPU fools dream i know. So homebrew guys have their own thing and there will be a smaller talent pool for hacking the ps4.

MS will respond. They have responded now in each xbox and they aren't going to let power slip so easily. Hopefully they remember that mass selling price points need to be considered. I don't mind mid range 350-550$ but I also am not dumb enough to think everyone I know wants to spend that on gaming.Best sales as each generation shows simply comes the cheaper the device is. For certain hardcore types they want these machines as bragging rights but what about the more casual bases who have shown they are also part of the equation.

Kudos to the company that at launch can hit 300$ or less though that will be the nail in the coffin considering power isn't going to decide things at this point. Anyone trying to argue that doesn't realize most people are fine with HDtwins plus graphics this is truly a clear step up especially since its at 1080p with decent fps performance.

Why does everyone believe Microsoft cant change the specs of the console late?

They did on the 360, and wasn't Sony rumored to have 2 then 4 all this time? Well they jumped to 8. Absolutely zero reason MS couldnt go to 8DDR5, or 16DDR3. It's not like MS' wallet isn't fat enough to approve the change. That's the beauty of your competition showing their hand first.

MS could even turn around and make online play free for Silver members, and then add more incentives to Gold to keep existing gold members and attract new ones like, free games?

It's apparently impossible due to the architecture of the console. Not my words of course, I'm leaning toward them having changed certain aspects since the leaked information we have is from 2012. We'll find out for certain soon enough, but I do find it foolhardy and short-sighted when people suggest they can't improve their specifications.

There's a blind willingness from some to believe the leaked specifications are final and that nothing can change.

I'm not a Sony fan.

When a poster argues that Sony isn't perfect because of the time that their PSN was taken down and breached, I have to laugh because that wasn't Sony screwing the consumer over, those were hackers.

But when Microsoft hides Netflix behind a paywall and locks players out of game modes in order to get them to buy their DLC, that's Microsoft's fault. That's their policy.

In terms of the gaming industry, which of the two companies has done the most harm to the medium?
. Some people have short memories. The ps3 had no games worth playing besides resistance till about 2009 IMO. You rag on ms for gears fable forza and gears but the ps3 rehashed the same games over and over like infamous gow uncharted and killzone. Most those ps3 games aren't even good. The only games on my ps3 that I didn't sell back were uncharted and demon souls. Of course this is all subjective but you people act like Sony is above all criticism. Did you notice all those sequels besides knack? Did you notice Sony has copied kinect the wiimote and made a point to do whatever xbox live has been doing for a long time. Ms has probably done more for consoles by moving to serious online functionality.

Durango's leaked specs will be the final specs, ie. it will be weaker. Sony overdid it most likely, especially with 8GB GDRR5, they're either going to price the machine out of the market or they're going to be in the red again like they were with PS3.

If it is more powerful then I'll probably buy it first. I'm sure I'll eventually buy all three, but they could potentially flip my most wanted from ps4 to 720.

I am honestly expecting ms to have a better show of games in their opener. Even it is a less powerful box, I think the games they show will give a much better impression in general than the handful we got yesterday from sony.

Which is why it won't be more powerful. They'll probably compete on price rather than specs.

Doesn't make a difference to me. I plan to make the nextbox my first next gen console mainly because I prefer MS first party IP's and their stylish u.i's...Plus it will be my new entertainment hub as they don't only cater to the core gamer.

The answer to this question would depend on far more than the graphics or power potential of the systems. Hell, the best thing I saw during the PS4 announcement was The Witness, but it's coming to PC as well so it's a moot point.

If MS were to showcase games that were simply distinct and new, not only in chronology or graphics but in functionality and approach, I would then have to see how they're approaching pricing and online before settling on a decision. But such distinct and new experiences would make the new MS system more appealing, power be damned.

If it doesn't "feature" always-online and doesn't block used games, I'll probably buy it too. Maybe I'll wait for the first price-cut, but I'll most likely get it sooner or later, if there are great exclusive games I really want to play.

But if the rumors about always-on etc. turn out to be true, I don't want to own the next XBox. I'll gladly ignore it, even if it's technically superior.

Anyway, the PS4 is my top priority, because I'm more fond of Sonys exclusive franchises and I'm very pleased with what was shown yesterday.

Than I give the advantage back to Microsoft. But I will also take into account how they view consumers and their behavior towards consumers. So far Sony has impressed me more on that front.

Um, okay.

All those sequels?

What do you mean?

I noticed Watch Dogs, Deep Down, Drive Club, Knack, and The Witness and the UE4 demo and the Luminous demo with the announcement of an FF game (those are usually not sequels).

What do you mean, all those sequels? Oh, you mean Shadowfall and Infamous Second Son? Okay. Two sequels among many new IPs. And Diablo 3 I guess.

Damn, Sony. All those sequels.

Edit: Media Molecule showed off a new title and Bungie showed off Destiny so those are two new IPs, I guess.

Infamous, Killzone, inevitable Uncharted 4.

They didn't even talk about Uncharted 4. And Naughty Dog is making a new IP now. Clearly Sony is not dependent solely on sequels. They're encouraging new IPs and are getting them.

I will...do nothing. I'm not getting the next xbox because I'm just not a fan of their IPs or paying for live or anything else they'll try and push. No doubt it will be a solid machine, but not the one for me.

I'm going where the games and the good services are. PS3 was apparently a bit weaker than X360 but the exclusives were above and beyond the halo of duty (sic), so even if next gen is another repeat, I will still get the PS4.

With a beastly PC of course.

It won't be. I would put money on it.
That's the vibe that I'm getting too. I'm ready to eat crow if necessary, but I don't see Microsoft making some kind of miraculous change to hardware design this late in the game. Granted, that's what everyone said about 4GB of GDDR5 too, so who knows!

I'm still getting a 720 if Halo 5 looks good, and for Forza, but other than that...

Interesting question, but after the 8gbGDDR thing I cant see that happening, and if so it will be by so little it wont matter.

I can see KZ4's multiplayer and graphics keeping me content until other titles follow...my god what is GT6 going to look like..I cant help but wonder off topic thinking about these things

Well, if it's more powerful + better games, I'd have to roll with Durango.

I'm super pumped for the ps4 and its 1st party offerings, so MS would have to flavor that secret sauce just right in order to win me back.

I'll wait to see if they have another red ring disaster.

That only took what? The whole life cycle for MS to figure that one out? On positive news, a working 360 will be worth its weight in gold ten years from now.

If MSFT is more powerful it won't be by much so I wouldn't put too much thought into who has more technical performance.

if ms is arrogant to not change their specs in over a year for the dev kits, then they must feel the wii need to just give gamers cheap experiences so they can get your hard earned cash.

Kinext2.0 4 life

You said "I not liking where Microsoft is taking the xbox." That is the future.

So, do you think we will see less ads in the 720 than we see now? Do you think we will see an end to the paywall for apps and online play? Even without the rumors of no used games and always online DRM one can see where Microsoft is taking the Xbox.

okay new name for the Xbox.

It shall now be refered to as CheepBox or ShitBox on these forums.

I have no idea. They don't bother me so it isn't a deal breaker, personally.

Nope. We don't have a clue where they are taking it, even with that. Will it have a share feature similar to PS4? Will it be as powerful? What games are coming out? Tons of questions need to be answered. There are no certainties at this point.

That's what was said about the ps4, but look what happened, MS could easily do a few things, increase the clock speeds of the processor and the gpu, use 12gb of ddr3 instead of 8 and double the esram, or they could use stacked ram which would increase bandwidth, reduce the need for more space and not add the board complexity that much. MS will have to do these things because they know their fanbase won't want an inferior console. They probably have considered doing this because it happened last gen too, Sony found out MS was going with 512 so sony did too.

I don't think the new Xbox will be more powerful. It will be quite on par with PS4, same as this generation. Also lots of games are multiplatform anyways so they should look and play almost the same (ideally).

I'm really thinking about getting a PS4, but I'll wait until some interesting games are coming out and maybe the price has dropped a bit.

Kinda fed up about the Xbl gold I have to pay to play online. If I can play for free on PS4 that will be a major reason to pick it over Xbox.

I'm confident that Sony will once again build a powerful machine.

There are certainties, there will be as many or more ads and there will be a paywall. Those are enough for a person to say that they don't like the direction Microsoft is taking the Xbox.

you think psn will be free? lol

Do you have reason to believe that there will be a fee?

why is everyone saying that the nexbox won't be as powerful? Didn't they started this whole 8GB revolution in the leaked specs? seriously? some of you guys need to chill out. I betting my left nut the xbox will style all over the ps4 reveal. Haters gonna hate.

60 bucks a year was asking too much for a better quality online service?

It wasn't the overall best before the adjustment in RAM.

8 gigs of DDR3 RAM was rumored. That's not even in the same realm as 8 gigs of GDDR5.

I was definitely hoping for the PS4 to be far and away the more powerful console because I'm done paying for XBL Gold and have no reason to justify it. Additionally, I don't see Microsoft offering the same level of game support for their console as Sony will. Also, most of the Microsoft's first party franchises appear to be floundering in the quality department and I've lost my desire for them.

But what if Microsoft comes out with a more powerful console and showcases games that the PS4 simply cannot match? And what if those games don't just trump the PS4 graphically, but in terms of gameplay, too?

Would you still buy one, knowing full well what kinds of pay walls MS is going screw the consumer with? And considering their tactics this gen, paying for timed exclusivity and bullying smaller studios?

Shouldn't that bring back your desire for the the Xbox games? & if not why would you care if they look better on the Xbox?

It was in the ballpark for the PS4. Edge had a rumor of a 8 GB GDDR5 update, other then that most of the rumors is spot on. Edge also had rumors of the next Xbox. I expect that to be spot on.

Things can change, MS' specs have been the same since last feb, sony upgraded last summer then a few months ago they decided to upgrade to 8gb. If Sony can do it MS can do it. Besides, MS did it last gen, the 360 was supposed to have 256 mb until epic told MS to upgrade a few months before they announced it.

What do you know about where they are taking it? I truly want to know this inside information.

Maybe he's seen how it has developed over the course of this and last generation and making some rather educated guesses based on that? But hey, that would be bananas.

I for one don't like the focus on Kinect, or that the dashboard looks like an ad flyer. I'm sort of expecting more along those lines, and that's on MS.

I don't base my console purchases or level of excitement on the quality of the reveals, but hey.

Assuming of course that they want to focus on said fanbase, and Kinect somewhat suggests otherwise.

I'm sorry but didn't Sony release Eyetoy? Didn't they introduce the catch phrase "cool" into the industry with PS, didn't they...blah blah blah..Ms pretty much got into the industry to stop Sony, but regardless, everything is a rehash of ideas. I would say no company is completely original, just comes down to who puts together the best box, best online ecosystem, no way you can make a statement like MS had done more for the industry--it's ludicrous. Every company, in different generations now, have completely changed the landscape...

In response to OP. I will cut my veins.

What kind of bloody response is that? A bloody fanboy knee-jerk reaction, it appears to me.

Maybe you are too young to have lived through the excitement that accompanied the release of previous generations. This is a special time. I just don't get why some people wish one console to succeed, and the other to completely fail. It makes no sense, IMHO.

If one console is significantly inferior, in technical specs, to the other...then we get Developers who will code for the lowest common demoninator.

If both consoles are more or less on an even technical level...EVERYONE WINS.

Silly argument, hardcore fanbase buys games, kinect people dont.
