What would be a system seller for the PS6 (for you)

Honestly, half the franchises being named in here are just zombie IPs at this point

People are nostalgia tripping hard without looking at the logistics. Even if Sony or a third party decided to bring back some of these dormant series for next-gen, the original driving forces behind them don't exist anymore. You're getting a totally new team trying to replicate a formula they didn't create

A new Wipeout would make it day one for me, but I doubt something like that would get done with Studio Liverpool gone and how PlayStation is now. Id even take a pathtraced Omega Collection at this point.

1. Final Fantasy 6 remake
2. Final Fantasy 7

Not sure if my man boobs being juggled or my gigantic cojones. Ill take both.

In my view, it would need to be something new, a that provides something different.

The original gameboy included Tetris, and that had a huge impact.

Playstation broke so many new terrains, with games like Resident Evil 2 or Metal Gear Solid.

XBox 360 had such a variety of innovative games, from Kameo to Dead Space to Gears of War.

Yes, GTA 6 would a system seller, but in part because it is expected to offer so much more to do than GTA 5

I haven't bought Nintendo hardware since the GC and they routinely make the best & best selling exclusives.
Sony's games are walking simulators by comparison IMO, so there's nothing they can do to convince me to buy a PS6.

At this point in history, I actually don't know. That's how far PlayStation has fallen in my mind. All of the exclusives that they released have been disappointing to say the least.

Maybe if they remade FFIX exact as it is, with no changes other than upgrading the visuals...and it's exclusive.

Bloodborne 2 for sure. Astro-bot 2 maybe (if they don't DEI the game, which is still possible. We'll see).

There are no others answers for me. Playstation is almost dead.

At this point, any use I have for a Playstation is continued access to my PSN library which consists 99% of PS4 games. The only games I've purchased specifically for it is the Resident Evil 7/8 gold bundle and that was because it was like $20. Otherwise I haven't been able to convince myself to dump more money into PSN at this point. I have $30 sitting on my account, $20 of which were Best Buy gift cards that I converted to PSN credit, and since it looks like they're done with PC as far as future first party single player titles, I'll probably use it on Astrobot and call a day.

All of that is a long-winded way of saying there's nothing that comes to mind that would sell me on a PS6. I'm really cold on the idea of closed consoles at this point. I don't even want to upgrade to Switch 2, but I will inevitably cave if the rumored OOT remake is balls to the wall overhauled.

Bloodborne remastered.
A new Sly game.
A new Soccom would also be interesting.

If these don't happen I'll probably get a PS6 eventually in the 2030's whenever Kojimbo releases Physint.

But if the PS6 is anything like the PS5 then for now at least I can't really see any reasons to get one at launch or in the first couple of years of the generation.

I dunno, a really good, grounded Killzone? A new inFamous would also pique my interest. And, obviously, the return of Bloodborne. But I wouldn't have faith in them to deliver the goods for any of those concepts even if they greenlit them. And as for a stream of other exclusives I'd be interested in, no shot.

Sony just don't want make games for me anymore, and every price hike just makes it easier to keep passing on their products (though I am intrigued by the upcoming handheld).

Looking ahead, there's really nothing Sony-related I care about anymore.
They killed off or neutered all their franchises, all the studios that could have done something unique have been closed, and the visionary directors or producers have all been flushed down the toilet. And there's no recapturing of that talent anymore.
The transition to Sony America being the cherry on the top.
Might as well ask "What delicious meal could Stalin serve ya to fill-up your belly, kulak?"
Well nah. The kitchen is a shithole, the cook is corrupt and the ingredients are all spoiled. And I also don't like the part where I have daggers planted in my back. I'll pass.

From Sony studios: A new third person action game from Sucker Punch.

Although I think that Yotei was disappointing, I still enjoyed it a lot.

The other Sony studios.... I don't know. I consider their games just a bonus these days. If a new Uncharted or Killzone is made that would be cool, everything else... I don't know.

From third party... Anything made by From Software, Koei Tecmo and S-E will probably make me buy the console.

Free cloud saves, the ability to save my game files to a USB without jailbreak, Days Gone 2 that isn't infected with Sonys current ideology, native disc based backwards compatibility with PS3 with some level of upscaling and improved frame rates, a disc drive, reasonable price, and Steam support.

None of this will happen. If I get a PS6 it will be the pro model and only if Sony has some great exclusives.

At least 1 or 2 must have game and a handful of good exclusives. Since I don't even like most of their first party output that'd probably need to come from third parties. Vanillaware refuses to even touch PC so there's that.

Oh, and the console price would need to go DOWN instead of up after a few years. That might convince me.

For PS6:
1. Astrobot 2 (the best exclusive IMO on PS5)
2. Any technically multiplatform game from a favorite IP that would for some reason skip Switch 2 (Persona 6? Mortal Kombat 2?)

Last time I felt a PS console had a system seller for me? I... don't know. For at least 3 generations Playstations consoles were bought mainly as the means to play multiplatform games (since Nintendo was horsepower-wise one generation behind), the exclusives were a nice bonus. Certainly, though, Persona 5 was a day one purchase for me. And Silent Hill 2 remake would've been too if I hadn't worked on it and had PS5 already.

I think if it were to be anything, it could potentially be Physint by Kojima. However, there's some caveats.
-They specifically state it's not ever coming to PC. (Sony is publishing but it's not really first party studio, so it's up in the air)
-It's a more linear focused MGS1 type of game with next generation stealth gameplay

I'm talking like reasonable sized environments but with CRAZY levels of physics and gameplay systems + enemy AI. Like reign in the size of the environments, but make them SUPER interactable. Basically that feeling of reading about MGS1 in magazines about all the cool interactions and environmental stuff in the game.. or seeing MGS2 E3 trailer for the first time and being blown away.

If Physint is shown, and it's like what I wish it would be... then it would be very hard for me to wait to buy that game and play it.

I kind of feel all the 1st party AAA are moving away from my tastes.

Horizon 3 is probably the best thing Sony have cooking and that will be Mid PS6 at least after placing their balls in Hunters Gathering.

Intergalactic is a bit meh, faye meh, astro cool but meh. If they created SOCOM but more a hybrid of Division and Siege that would get the precum flowing.

I've been loyal to Sony mostly for the past 12 years or so but there's nothing they can really offer me with their current studios that would have me wanting it badly. I don't get as agitated as some people in here over the DEI shit but all their games are boring and safe.

They need a real Japanese studio back and seeing a new Ape Escape, Wild Arms along with a new IP.

From their Western studios I want something fun and colourful that isn't just photo realistic shit.

That's cause "the logistics" suggest that there could be no "exclusive system sellers", only big multiplatform titles.

Criminal that it' still limited to PSVR1 too, the VR experience on the Omega Collection was transformative and not doing even a basic port and spec bump for PSVR2 sucks.

With all the news about PS games no longer on PC, the looming PS6 updates and the ongoing discussions about PlayStations first party output..I wanted to ask two things?

1.What would be a system seller for you on the PS6? (This can be games, policies, software etc)

AND

2. When was the last time you felt PlayStation had something that could really moved the needle for you on selling consoles?

I have owned PS since after 360 so this isn't a console warring thing or anti-PlayStation. Not interested in console warring just general thoughts since the same topics seem to come up a lot online and on this forum.
physint.

I'll be buying it to play thousands of hours of games on.
I don't get hung up on specific exclusive bullshit.

Easy choice.

Dark Souls 1 Remake like Demon's Souls.(or any Dark Souls remake)

I'd also be in for Astro 2 or TLOU3 if we get to play as Ellie again(though please let's pretend part 2 didn't happen).

Anything from Larian or Owlcat I'm all over. Wolverine could be good.

Max Payne remakes would be super hot. Bloodborne all the things and I'm in. Elden Ring 2.

That said, honestly, I haven't played Playstation for exclusives since I liked Uncharted. I play on Playstation/Switch 2 because I like their hardware, I liked their exclusives, and I'm invested in the ecosystem. I actually wish Nintendo would drop some killer apps for Switch 2. Can't wait for starfox but I also want Zelda remakes, new Zelda, new Mario, and new Fire Emblem, new Xenoblade asap!

Hey, what was that rumored Fromsoft game?

Curlean Coast or something?

That one, the Fromsoft Cthulu game, if it exists, is my number 1 killer app for PS6.

My main draw of PS has always been the controller and 3rd party games , if they get rid of paid online MP I might consider the handheld but for the most part I'm done with Sony after this gen . Fromsoft and SE not doing exclusives was basically my turning point , I just see no appeal to any of their games the last 10 years .

A From Soft souls game.
Directed by Miyazaki.
That's not a remake or remaster but a proper new game.
That's a traditional single player focused souls game and not an MP one like Neightreign or Duskbloods.
That's clearly labeled as a proper exclusive and not "first on PS6".

Maybe that. I can't picture any Sony first party dev making a system seller for me these days.

I'm sure I'll end up getting it, but for the first time I'm not in a rush to buy it at launch. I'm not saying I won't pick it up then, but if I miss it at release, I'm not too worried. I'm honestly more interested in the handheld. Lately, most of my gaming has been on the Steam Deck—just been so busy or tired at night that it's the easier option.

I'm buying it either way but I'd like to see a renewed focus on premium single player games and let the 3rd parties handle the GAAS garbage that Sony is gonna get a cut of anyway.

Update : I'd also like to see a lot of the great games stuck on PS3 given remasters or at least allow for PS3 emulation on the PS6.
