What would make No Man's Sky better for you?

from what i watched i think adding roaming npcs to fight on some planets would be cool.

aslo adding ruins and alien civs on some planets would be fun to find and explore

An instant use button.

For example, my inventory is full, bit I need some carbon to keep my suit protection alive. I should be able to walk up to some and use it instantly right? Nope, first I have to clear something from my inventory, then get the carbon in my inventory in order to use it.

Its a joke.

- Better shooting. It's god awful. That goes for ships, too. Having to use the grenades or mining laser for ship battles is limiting and boring.
- Better ship controls. I have to break and let them fly past. That ain't fun. I wanna dogfight with the best of them.
- Procedural missions. Could be simple things like find this particular creature and gain some credits or something. They already have bounties, why not this?
- Tone down the Sents. Let me mine, damnit. It's just rocks.
- Better upgrades. I feel like some of them don't do much until you get into the plus 3s area. Up their usability from the get go.
- Add more interactions with creatures. I can feed them, watch them fight sometimes, have them come after me and fight them with the awful combat, or scan them. Give them more life, because it's obvious they feel like background elements moreso than not.
- Change their voices, too. Almost all of mine are so high pitched!
- Explain certain elements a little better.
- Allow people to buy things necessary to craft. That'll help people get over the glitches real easy like.
- Think of the player and how they'd like to roleplay, and tailor some experiences towards that. I'm trying to play pirate, but it doesn't really feel like I'm playing pirate beyond attacking cargo ships (which I can barely do)
- Put up more downed ships, while we are at it. I've found one in the ten plus hours I've put in. Imagine if my shit is underwater - I'll be grinding or scouring for weeks. Balance it out by making the ships not too far stat wise from your current ontes (I think that's a thing already).
- Alien interactions go to the same places, despite the cool stories. Make more of it. I was suppose to be wed, but that's apparently not even a thing anymore that the game cares about.

I got a lot more, but those were the ones that stood out the most to me personally.

I'd like a reduction in the survival aspects of gameplay and an emphasis on exploration/ease of exploration.

So features like:
- reduction in the rate at which life support decreases
- higher carrying capacity
- lower cost of takeoff (it's like 4 right now on a full charge by default? Wat)
- slightly better control over the ship, maybe in third person camera
- being able to see under the ship, or have some sort of scanner that shows you a mesh of the terrain below
- ways to mark what planet has what resources after discovery (maybe this is already in?)

I'm sure there's more but overall the main issue I have is the way that exploring for resources is actually unpleasant in both player controls and lack of direction.

I love this game but there are a lot of little things (without changing the core gameplay) that are simple to add that would enhance the experience tremendously. I can't wait to see how the game evolves and I commend Hello Games on a wonderful game from a small team. I wish more studios would take chances like No Man's Sky.

"Simple Changes"

1) Autofill for resources for fuel/mining/core items - or allow you to set the levels, ie first 200 plutonium to launch thrusters

2) Mapping of planets as you go - very frustrating visiting the same shelter multiple times, plus it would be neat to map it from flying over and then circle back to interesting spots. I echo that there is no need to have so many things close together - I would prefer larger, but more spread out.

3) Personal Ship Call - I think it would be great if you could simply call your ship from wherever (like at trading posts) so you can simply roam the planet and not worry about how far away from it you are. I feel like if Tesla can implement this, we can implement this in a videogame. Maybe restrict it if you are in a storm/under attack etc...

4) Landvehicle/horizontal jetpack. You can already kind of "hack" this with the melee but it would be great if there some formal tech on this to make it easier to explore - not just walking for 10 minutes.

5) Star System Map like Elite

6) Planet scanning from Space

7) Better system for viewing/seeing your blueprints and tech. Maybe like a tech tree that shows them

8) When you select a "blueprint" have the materials highlighted in the stores/trading

9) Do something with old ships - sell/keep...something.

Just a start - but these are pretty small things in the scope they could fix/update. I think the sequel or expansion (more varied spacestations/NPC etc...) should have other changes but those would change the game completely.

No Mans Sky is like this wonderful beginning to a living and breathing universe that you can explore.

As for downed ships, I have found about 15 of them so far (usually from a communications plaza where you solve a simple mathematical formula) - just keep in mind they are based on your current ship and only add a small amount to available space (or none). You aren't going to go from 15 slots to 26 from a downed ship.

Far greater evidence for these vast civilizations and a lot more to do for them. There are these galactic alien civilizations hopping around the galaxy setting up bungalows everywhere -- where are the cities, though?

I would be fine if settled planets were few and far between but I'd like to see something more than just random traders and scientists. In addition to that, some form of questing for alien NPCs would incentivize me to explore much, much more. It doesn't have to be RPG fare -- just a reason to go somewhere and collect something.

I've been unlucky enough that the math puzzles lead me to some outpost or ruin.

I'd be fine with them not adding a ton of space. Just having them around in case something goes horribly awry would be fine.

This ties into my roleplaying thing, but it'd be nice if they let you fix up ships you've killed on-planet. It'd be a good incentive to shoot down those dudes and keep it balanced by forcing you to fix it all up.

Right now:

- I love the game but
- crashes show its roots
- the dlc bug is total bull (not that I've seen or had it)
- there are way too many alien outposts on some planets. Like one every mile
- there only being one alien per building feels ridiculous 100 building in. Why not have others, even just sitting stationary doing nothing - would immediately make it so much more immersive
- it sucks that aliens aren't actually in their ships. At least position the "in-ship dialogue" screen so that it looks like they're sitting in there
- finding the last animal on a planet is really, really annoying 95% of the time
- there needs to be a clearer way of knowing the galactic economy. Where certain items are or aren't sold,
- like everyone, I'm worried the novelty will wear off. I'm 20+ hours in and sort of already feel it. But in confident subsequent story/places will be unique

I've never played it, but what would get me to buy it was if I knew what I'm supposed to do, if it's only about space exploration and looking at pretty things created or discovered by people, than I would like for it to have boss fights and an ultimate purpose for the avatar I created.

The game has at least two goals - ie actual hand-written lot points - that it tells you about within two hours of gameplay.

I had one lead me to a ruin marker that appeared to be underwater. Once I was there I tried going underwater but there was nothing there and the marker disappeared. That was really frustrating. Definitely felt like a bug.

I'm loving the game so far (that's about 12 hours in), so it's difficult to really judge.

I think the most important general thing is that it has good post-release support. It's a bit like Minecraft in that respect. I kind of feel the game is an ongoing project.

Like new landscape features would be cool. Rivers, icebergs, volcanoes, that sort of thing.

Vehicles would definitely be cool. Simple bases could work well, but just something like a camp to store and maybe sell resources. I don't need anything more elaborate.

The other niggles, like FOV and inventory management don't seem to be bothering me, so I'm indifferent towards that.

I'd like a reduction in the survival aspects of gameplay and an emphasis on exploration/ease of exploration.

I think this could be divisive. People want different things from the game. I'm kind of happy with the balance, as the answer to it is mostly 'go to a different planet'. Some are tough, some are much more chilled.

  • More storage or some type of system that allows you to have a permanent place to store things for the long term instead of just your ship and suit.
  • Ability to lock onto targets
  • Ability to build structures with materials gathered
  • Place to store/collect ships and swap

Hope:

- More environmental hazards (asteroids, volcanism/earthquakes/avalanches/blizzards/killer dust or lightning or radiation storms)
- More density (guess this is a hardware limitation) resulting in multiple biomes within a world
- Varying gravity (how is this not a thing)
- Ability to build structures/monuments... let me build my own stonehenge plz
-More/better tools
- Some sentinel-less worlds, even if very rare, where chaos can reign
- Map should be created as you discover things.

Dream:

- Ability to see & explore WITH other players, to pool together resources and build shelters/space stations and assign roles on a joint quest toward the galactic center.
- Actual civilizations, even if very rare, with various levels of hostility.

More variety.
Missions.
More rewarding secrets. (Finding an obelisk to teach you a word is silly).
Some space station were you can pick missions and summon friends.
Droids that can make the mining for you.

I would like to see some planets with civilizations already established on them. I know there's an abundance of planets that are barren but most look the same as well as are just nothing but rocks or trees.

Also, make the sentinels only appear around certain areas on a planet, instead of following you where ever you are so you can actually destroy things without being attacked every 5 seconds.

I haven't played it yet. I'm waiting on the PC release, but having read most of the threads I can probably agree that it needs a better inventory system and a less cumbersome crafting process. If it can nail those two things I think other gripes will be much more tolerable given the scope of the game.

Stats.

It's kind of boring to look for a new ship or gun and realizing that inventory slots is all that's different...unless I'm missing something. Maybe one will have a better upgrade already installed, but it's not like I wouldn't be able to build it myself on the ship I already have.

Also more cockpits.

Different multi-tools do have different mods installed when you find them and most have more inventory slots unless you got lucky and found one with a lot of empty slots. Currently I have 12 inventory slots on my multi-tool and I found it on an anomaly in space during exploration.

I really want the ability to easily set a waypoint for bases I've found before on planets. I find a base with a merchant that wants a dagger. If I get a dagger later on I should be able to set course to that merchant and give him his damn dagger

Loving what I've played so far, but my wishlist of - hopefully, very possible - future inclusions:

- More NPCs in space stations and on planets
- Enemy sentient aliens like the Gek and Vykeen; needs more enemy variety than aggressive fauna and sentinels
- Bigger settlements on planets, maybe even towns and cities
- Vehicles for planetary exploration; both land and sea
- More fully-fledged quests; be they randomly generated or scripted
- Player storage to keep (I'm really hoping this comes with the base building update)

A very very small complaint (because it prevents me from breaking into some places lol).
> No sentinels (I'm like 5 hours in). It's the only disturbing thing for now. I'd rather have aliens protecting some bases so I should fight them or wait for night or I don't know but always there sentinels... boring :/

The rest is good for now (well it's what I expected from it...nothing much more than exploration).

It may change because clearly planets don't have a lot of variety for now. Of course creatures and landscapes are different but you can easily see a pattern here (colors are at the center of everything mostly).

Now I don't ask for Earth like number of species but I'd rather have 99% planets with no life and then 1% with lot of variety (Xenoblade X is way better regarding this but not the same scale at all of course). I add this comment but it's not that a big deal for now (maybe after 10-15 hours in... depending of the rest that the game has to offer).

Not disappointed for now (55€, decided to buy a few days before launch since I was hesitating. Telling me it was "just" exploration set the bar quite low actually).

More Quests, NPC's, rideable fauna, civilizations (cities, villages etc;), less stations (theres too many from the planets I've been on, and are way too common), item to call your ship to you (have it break at use ) and hiave a way to identify whats really on the planet (minerals, rarity of said minerals, population etc;)

Love the game, 8/10, but these additions would bring it to another level.

There are lots of things that could be better as is the case with many games. Land vehicles would be awesome. I don't have a lot of complaints though, I'm flat out loving the game.

Get the ability to map a planet and then upload it for units. That way when someone comes to that solar system at the space station they can then purchase peoples maps for the planets.

Make it a mission to get the ability to map planets. Would be a blast to just throw down markers on your map.

adjust the boost jump so it's a real mechanic (like hold R1 and jump to auto thrust forward)

add planetary mapping of some kind

fix swimming on surface of water

adjust fauna to better match planetary conditions

fix inventory so you can explore blueprints without having to have an open slot

add contextual prompt to auto consume appropriate mats when something runs out and I have them

add a lock on indicator for destinations using pulse jump

add scanning from orbit spot analyze planetary conditions before you land; also let me see this info anytime

lower the minimum flight altitude to 10m or so and add an "auto following terrain" indicator

let me reduce speed to 0 or fly in reverse in atmo

let me look around while sitting in the cockpit while landed (this is small but it really bugs me)

add persistent Out of Range indicator (like full inventory) for teleporting mats to ship

add multi tool upgrade that lets me summon ship

add multi tool upgrade that predicts weather storms / shows day night cycle

reduce the fuel cost for launch boosters

add icon treatment for stackable items

allow me to rearrange ship upgrades in inventory

expose faction standings

expose % of language comprehension

let me mine large minerals from the air using the ship like with asteroids

allow quick assign of items to d pad

more npc variety, walking around space stations etc

more of everything

holy shit, all of these. and these all seem doable via patch. not like 'add multi player', 'variable biomes per planet' and whatnot. Great list.

Anime waifus. But not like as friends or NPCs, but as part of the creature generation engine. You might go to a planet and just be swarmed by angry crabs with anime girl heads. It's coming out tomorrow and it's going to be great.

I like this one

More random loot that maybe drops from kills. (I want every game to be diablo)

Building.

Land Vehicles

A better UI for managing inventory
A better UI for managing quests/manipulating your compass.

I just realised that making the sentient aliens more active - ie they can fight you and move around - would make the game 100x more immersive. Even just fighting back in a rudimentary way would be huge.

Very nice.

Fix the god damn awful inventory management. With this type of game, having such a small amount of space for items and the menu itself is terrible.

Less erratic servers; I am sick of having to check every few minutes if servers are up so I can upload data to Atlas.

I also wish the first level of a device (so the basic jetpack, takeoff thrusters, etc) were more generous/less greedy in how quickly they depleted per-use. I mean 25% per takeoff is 5-10% too much.

The air rebreather is worst for this.

"Cool! I got a thing that let's me breathe under water!"

*three seconds later*

"oh it's depleted"

  • Being able to sell items stored in your ship at Trade Terminals and Space Stations.
  • Ship customization.
  • Each Galaxy having a Quest System with things to do there.
  • Super rare materials like Diamonds that can only be found in caves that fetch for high prices on the market. (100k per diamond for example.)
  • A Storage system for ships so when you buy a new ship you still have your older ships and go back to it. So that way you can have a fighter ship and then switch to a cargo ship when you want to farm.
  • Bank system to store your things (and pesky Atlas orbs)
  • Make things like Atlas Spots and Worm Holes farther away, but allow ships to jump much farther early game.
  • More diverse climates/regions on planets. Planets are pretty much the same no matter which part you visit.
  • Bigger badder sentinels to fight (like mech size.)
  • Land Transportation vehicles. Like a hoverbike, hoverboard, hovercar. Maybe even ride a creature?
  • Make scanning things on planets faster/seamless and make it more rewarding. Maybe allow a wide spread scan that can scan multiple things at once for you, or maybe even automatically?
  • Underwater on planets should have a bunch of crashed ships you can loot.
  • Have Wayshrines on some Planets that must be used on foot and they teleport you to a completely different planet in a different galaxy.
  • Able to infiltrate other ships and fight aliens in person.

That's just things I can come up with in 10 minutes.

Creative or free mode and co-op. 25% of fuel per takeoff is such a buzz kill.

The launch thruster cost is brilliant. If it wasn't there traversal would become totally throwaway and "lite". You wouldn't consider it and traversing on foot would never be your first choice.

In a "creative"/exploration mode it would be fine ofc

In this thread, people who want a completely different game from what no man's sky is.

I'd honestly just like that online functionality plus whatever quality of life upgrades they come up with like bank storage, ship storage, better trading etc

actually people's lists in here confirmed what I suspected all along... this game will likely have pretty long legs with a few decent mods...... pretty large sandbox to use mods in here, imagine even minor tweaks to the procedural generation stuff....
