What would make No Man's Sky better for you?

In this thread, people who want a completely different game from what no man's sky is.

In this post, someone who needs to justify their enjoyment and purchase of a game by simplifying an entire thread into something he can complain about all the while implying the game has no flaws because it is what it "set out to be".

I don't see many posts above me that want to change the "soul of the game".

Edit: New page. I don't see many posts in general that want to change the "soul of the game".

Being out on Steam so I could play it.

...I have a feeling I'll be frustrated by stuff like material requirements for simply taking off in your ship, but we'll see.

- Better FPS gameplay
- More NPCs
- More interactive NPCs
- Make it clearer when you fly over a base if you've been there before
- Bigger inventory, everything stacks automatically
- Local planet map
- Lower cost to take off
- Make the 'Milestone' notifications less intrusive
- Land vehicles on inhabited planets
- More variety in what on planet outposts look like
- Set waypoints for yourself
- Call airship from anywhere (slight penalty if not to a landing pad so they still have a use)
- Life support doesn't run out as quickly
- Make it rare, but planets with cities, some kind of large settlement. These aliens have to be living somewhere
- Bounties / hunts, given from notice boards in Space Stations. Large or unique boss flights giving rewards / units
- Drastically improve space dog fight controls

I should say that I love the game and cannot wait to get back to playing it. Here's my list:

- Higher FOV (this one is so ridiculous).
- Better look controls. The look acceleration curve feels super bad. Plus, whenever it detects a certain amount of vertical movement during fast horizontal movement, it lowers the horizontal movement speed. Combined with the low FOV it just feels clunky and janky and nearby things easily get lost, especially indoors.
- Don't immediately eject after landing (sometimes I want to get ready before hopping out).
- Easier or auto ship shield recharge (going into a menu during a fight feels bad).
- Star system map, planet list, something that captures the whole picture of a system.
- Mark favorites on galactic map.
- Local planet map, or a compass?
- Fix vanishing items when inventory is full, it feels bad.
- "Upload All" button to just submit everything on a planet at once. Having to manually upload each and every thing means I'm not uploading lots of shit.
- Allow stacking of trade items, either by type or just have a separate bag for those.
- Ability to see stats on planet (flora, fauna, atmosphere, etc) in a menu (currently it only appears when you land on a planet, and it might even be only the first time but not sure)

A tall order, but any one of those would make the game feel so much better than it currently does.

Better system map is needed asap.

NPCs just standing or working on space station or base.

Sentinels upgrade on super hostile planets so they become droids on foot or ME2 style Atlas Mechs.

More stalker animals maybe a planet where a stalker animal will hunt you like Predator.

Dream ideas but could not work due to hardware limitations

NPC ships land on planet to do own investigations they land on landing strips why not planet itself and walk around.

Invading race who are more militaristic wanting to conquer instead of trade which would Make space battles more large scale.

More land variations not just rock.

Better gameplay

Combat that matters

AI that actually acts different depending on what they are

Planets with unique content and not just looks

Multiplayer

I haven't played a ton but in all the footage and screens I've seen (which is a lot) I've never seen true forests, towering snow capped mountains, and remnants of ancient cities (talking full skylines--just dilapidated). Maybe they're in there but as far as I've seen they're not. Which is a bit of a bummer.

All of these, plus

- Dropping items from your inventory instead of destroying them. If i have to craft a bypass chip and my inventory is full, i don't want to have to jettison a whole stack of something just for something i'll use 10 seconds later.

Reavers from Firefly

* being able to see what blueprints you have without having a free slot.
* being able to call your spaceship when on a planet without the need for a landing platform or those beacons (this might be in the game later, i dunno)
* being able to sell resources in stacks
* being able to move around upgrades in your inventory without having to dismantle them.
* faster cooldown on scanning with your visor
* slightly streamlined crafting. as in - if i wanna craft a warp core, i need 2 free slots, initially, even though, along the way, i'll always have one free slot
(you need 2 free slots, crafting the antimatter reduces it to 1 slot, in which you'll craft the warp core, which consumes the piece of anti-matter again). It's just a bit clunky.
* maybe increase the stack size of certain "vendor trash" items, like those orbs, daggers, masks and shit, but also those little modules that you need to access these random beacons. (or remove those altogether - That's just busywork - it's not like anyone will ever run out of 10 carbon and 10 iron (iirc) )
* be able to set surface waypoints manually... (like marking a gold vein when at full inventory)

Those would be some features that i'd enjoy greatly

some of this feels very much like The Witcher at release, where many "comfort features" regarding the UI came with a patch.

A lot of this feedback is really great. I think adding a "creative" mode ala minecraft where your ship can travel at frl speed by default allowing you to just have free roam of the galaxy would be nice.

(I'm waiting for my PC version, but the notifications looks really intrusive)

A story, and end game, more stuff to do and make them fun. Some personality. Characters I can care about. Better combat. Just make it interesting...

Yes it's another No Man's Sky thread, but I'm hoping this one will invoke a different type of discussion.

Anyway to those that own the game, have played it, or are on the fence, what (realistic) improvements could Hello Games implement in a patch that would make the game better for you?

In before "Let me meet other people" as that clearly won't improve the game in a significant way.

how the fuck not?

Being able to build structures and unique weapons, and farm. Epic boss spawns and dungeons would be cool too. And of course multiplayer.

Let me breed different species by capturing them.

Oh and the run + melee + jetpack speed boost trick. It's probably a glitch and will be patched out. If it was intentional, they should just turn that into a single button press and remove the execution tax.

I hope they don't patch it out. The base run speed was intentionally designed to convey a certain sense of scale and pacing. To me, when you contrast the run speed against the massive size of planets, it seems silly that you can't run faster. It would be super cool if there was a "BoostRun module or something you could install which basically is what this is.

adjust the boost jump so it's a real mechanic (like hold R1 and jump to auto thrust forward)

add planetary mapping of some kind

fix swimming on surface of water

adjust fauna to better match planetary conditions

fix inventory so you can explore blueprints without having to have an open slot

add contextual prompt to auto consume appropriate mats when something runs out and I have them

add a lock on indicator for destinations using pulse jump

add scanning from orbit spot analyze planetary conditions before you land; also let me see this info anytime

lower the minimum flight altitude to 10m or so and add an "auto following terrain" indicator

let me reduce speed to 0 or fly in reverse in atmo

let me look around while sitting in the cockpit while landed (this is small but it really bugs me)

add persistent Out of Range indicator (like full inventory) for teleporting mats to ship

add multi tool upgrade that lets me summon ship

add multi tool upgrade that predicts weather storms / shows day night cycle

reduce the fuel cost for launch boosters

add icon treatment for stackable items

allow me to rearrange ship upgrades in inventory

expose faction standings

expose % of language comprehension

let me mine large minerals from the air using the ship like with asteroids

allow quick assign of items to d pad

more npc variety, walking around space stations etc

more of everything

holy shit, all of these. and these all seem doable via patch. not like 'add multi player', 'variable biomes per planet' and whatnot. Great list.

Yep. This needs to be passed to Hello Games ASAP

I wonder if he knows Sean already changed the soul of the game by updating it Day 1!

Albeit I've only played for a few hours but I dislike the sentries. Why are they on planets I alone have discovered? If I want to, and have the capabilities to do it, I should be able to glass an entire planet or consume the entirety of its resources and have that be on my conscience and nothing more. Let me be as heroic or contemptible as I choose, without letting an arbitrary morale system define what I should and should not do.

I think this could be divisive. People want different things from the game. I'm kind of happy with the balance, as the answer to it is mostly 'go to a different planet'. Some are tough, some are much more chilled.

It absolutely is, but the thread is about what would make it better for you. That's simply what I expected and wanted out of the game; the ability to walk around, relax, and experience this galaxy. I wanted something more like Journey, I guess.

I agree. I drop on a planet, sentry defense:negligible.

Break a few plutonium as i was dangerously low and suddenly im attacked by a few sentrys. I get they are the universe police but they get pissed off at the slightest inconvenience. Although they are easy to take out.

Game has some crazy scale man, something about that fov scares the shit out of me when I'm going super fast to a big ass planet.

For it to be out on PC already, I'm sick of waiting and reading about all the fun you smug PS4 bastards are having.

That said I own a PS4, but I'm holding out for the PC version. 1440p60 FTW.

-FOV options.

-Much bigger inventory. At least 5 times as much capacity and inventory slots than what we've got now.

-Waypoints and a full map of everywhere I've been.

-More interactivity with alien npcs.

-Big, customisable ships that can't enter atmospheres but that you can stow your little ship in and hold huge amounts of cargo. This may well end up being what those freighters they talked about end up being, but I want something I can properly walk around and redesign to my liking, and that I can program to fly on autopilot somewhere in system while I do other things.

I think the game controls really poorly, so that.

Also it seems to want to crush any attempt at having fun with the absurd level of Inventory micromanagement. Your inventory is full. Move this to your ship. Recharge your mining gun. Recharge your temperature. Recharge your thrusters. Every 5 minutes is something to be recharged. I'm more convinced No Mans Sky is a Skinner box for seeing how much players can stomach inventory bullshit and for how long before they quit then a game.

Bases are coming according to HG so you got one thing on your list

I've spent absolutely hours playing it so there aren't that many things I'd like to see altered and the things that there is are more to do with tidying it up.
  • A simple option to turn of the flight assists so that you can deal with taking off and landing your self. Not full simulation but it would be nice to have the option to switch it off for people who do want to do that.
  • Better audio options so people could optimise the audio for their own specific systems. They should take a leaf out of Uncharted 4's book here.
  • I have no issues with the amount of inventory space but it could be streamlined a little when you're trading with a merchant but can't see exactly what you need to create the items you're after.
  • It would be interesting to have the occasional fully populated planet from time to time with much larger settlements. They should be very rare but it just seems strange that there aren't any at all.
  • Stealth camouflage on ships so that you can at least try to avoid conflict if you want to. It would of course take resources to use it, it would't last for long and it would;t even guarantee escape.
  • I'd like to be able to scan and keep track of other people's ships, I've seen some amazing stuff and it would be nice to have a catalogue of them and their stats.
That's about it for me, I've absolutely loved the game so far.

It's probably common knowledge but for anyone that might not be aware, the next thing we're getting is:

I'm intrigued by the ability to build bases, it will perhaps give a reason to return to a planet. It will also encourage a bit more exploring to find a perfect "safe" planet to build a base on.

Does anyone here know what the cloud rendering refers to? Or what it actually is, and could mean for the game? I know he refers to changing the way the game looks, but in what way?
