What would YOU have called the Wii U or New 3DS?

I kinda liked Cafe for Wii U.
But I'd call it the Super Wii or something that really differentiates it.
As for n3DS, I'd have called it 3DSi

Different names definitely would've helped both.

The Wii brand was tarnished and abandoned by Nintendo.

The ones I like best so far are

Nintendo Super Wii, or Yoo and the 3DS Advance. Both of them pay tribute to Nintendo's rich history, which is a good thing.

The Nintendo GameCube'd

GameBoy 3D, GameBoy 3D Macro.

Early 2000's Nintendo had great ideas. I love my 11 year old Micro ;)

Wii 2 or a completely different name would have been better, the New 3ds itself is confusing no matter the name imo.

I wouldn't have released the New 3DS in the first place, and saved that R&D to the actual next generation handheld. The 3DS doesn't need that kind of fragmentation.

Wii HD

3DS Plus

Not sure who names Nintendo's systems but they need to be fired.

Nintendo U
3DS Pro

The Wii brand is toxic. I don't think "Wii 2" would have made a big difference.

The Wii brand became 'toxic' (whatever that means) after they confused consumers with the stupid U name and a weird low res tablet controller. Putting 'Wii' in the title was never an issue; the marketing and execution is where Nintendo screwed up.

Wii 2

I don't think there's anything wrong with the New 3DS name. We live in a world where Apple announces a "new MacBook" that isn't the MacBook Air despite being even thinner.

After a long day of work you have a lot of options to get relaxation and entertainment from. So does everyone else in your family. You want something that can bring everyone together and keep everyone smiling. You also know that not everyone likes video games so as long as everyone can stay in the same room together and be happy and not have the console hog the TV by having a seamless screen on the controller. So many people just want a cool name without considering what the intention of the console is.

The word super isn't cool anymore. The codename we were calling the system before its reveal, the stream, sounds too much like a pee joke and the Wii already had too many of those.

Now I kind of like the Nintendo Union or Unity because it bring people together, but it can't be named those for legal reasons. But here's a crazy and kind of dumb idea: why not just call it the Wii. Families already are familiar with the Wii even if they may have drifted away from it. Or even call it the Next Generation Wii with the first bit in small font. It might cause some confusion but at that point people were used to their phones upgrading without getting a major shift in their names.

Or here's an even dumber thought, call it the N6 because it's the sixth major home console from the company.

Actually, after writing that I'd probably just call it the Wii U too.

I don't know about the 3DS though. I like the silly name but it's already a mouthful. It needs a name that can signify that it's the same great system millions of people already know and love but with more features and power. "The New 3DS" does that without trying too hard.

Looks like I'm bad at naming systems, but it's not like any video game system has ever had a great name.

I would have called the New 3DS the 3DSN (N standing for new obv) or the 3DS+. As for Wii U, I have no idea. Super Wii sounds absolutely awful and dated, and Wii 2 would make it sound like it was only Nintendo's second system so it would look even lesser next to the PS4 (not that it doesn't already). Nintendo U might have been a good name for it.

Well, I'd have called the N64 "Ultra NES" then when we wanted a rebranding I'd have called the GC something else, then Wii would be Super GC and Wii U would be Ultra GC in keeping with that tradition. Of course replace GC there with whatever GC was changed to

Nintendo Orbit
Nintendo Atmos
Something space-like that conveys theres a "satellite" device working around the main console.

You're wrong. Some segments of mainstream STILL think it's a Wii add-on.

I'd say heavy marketing of the gamepad with little to no footage of the console may have contributed to that. Especially with use of previous wii peripherals like the motes and the balance board. Just look at their first commercial: "New Controller" is the entire theme.
