What would YOU have called the Wii U or New 3DS?

The i was because it had a camera, an "eye". And to steal some creed from apple.

The SP stands for Special if I remember correctly.
Wow they do mean something?? I mean I guess they had to but I never could figure it out!

But this just makes me thinking putting "New" at the front of the name was an even weirder decision. Slim? Mini? Go? Micro? Can't think of any console or handheld revisions which stuck some other word infront of the base name!

Wii 2

I don't think there's anything wrong with the New 3DS name. We live in a world where Apple announces a "new MacBook" that isn't the MacBook Air despite being even thinner.
I agree with the Wii 2 as well.

The difference between Apple and Nintendo is that Apple are absolute masters at marketing. Nintendo...isn't.

Nintendo Orbit
Nintendo Atmos
Something space-like that conveys theres a "satellite" device working around the main console.

That's not a bad idea.

They could have called the main system the "station" and the controller the "satellite". That might be too silly for the general public, but I do like the idea of naming it around things that are attached to eachother by an invisible force.

Wii 2
3DS Advance, although I must say I kinda think Super Nintendo 3DS makes a lot of sense too with the button color scheme.

Dunno about the U but Nintendo normally puts random gibberish after a upgraded handhelds name not before. Okay Pocket and Color weren't gibberish but what did SP even stand for? And SP+? What's the "i" in DSi? Following their normal naming method I'd go with 3DS XL mk.II!

I think I read in a magazine back in the day that the SP was supposed to mean "Special Project" but not sure on that. No clue on the DSi :/ And 3DS XL mk.II reminds me of SEGA but I like it :P

On-topic I would have probably called the Wii, Wii 2 or Wii Next to make the distinction clear as for the new 3DS, I don't find the new that bad but as alternatives 3DS Plus really makes the most sense or maybe 3DS v2.

Hmm...with the Wii U, the name was confusing due to how there were too many products with the name "Wii" in it. If wanting to continue with the Wii brand, Wii 2 is the only possible name that wouldn't have caused complete confusion among people. I think it wouldn't have sold to the masses still with that name though (huge mentality of already owning a Wii system stuck with them).

I honestly would've just replaced the standard 3DS model without a new name. Because when people talk about it, they would call it the new 3DS anyway. There would be less confusion, and you still get exactly the same thing out of it. Marketing can use that it's new without having to plug in the actual name of it.

Really hope they figure out the Nintendo name is what they need to have as their brand, and not just the company name.

WiiDS
3U.

But in all seriousness, tbh Im perfectly fine with the New 3DS moniker, but the WiiU...yeah that definitely should have dropped the Wii brand entirely.

For their next generation I hope they go with:

Nintendo Omnibox (console)
Nintendo Omnigear (handheld)

Drives home their current plan of unifying their two platforms and keeping them within the same family yet still allowing the two to be separate from another. It'd also emphasize compatibility between the two devices (which at this point I think is a given for their next hardware)

The argument I always saw brought against naming it Wii 2 was that Nintendo would look inferior to the PS4 and Xbox 720 (the assumed name at the time). It seems kind of silly to think about now with the Xbox One.

Wii Tu (though I think they probably should have dropped the Wii branding, by 2012 that shit had been slowing dying for two years)

3DS+

WII - the last two letters are Roman numerals. No confusion possible here!

4DS - it's one better.

Is it weird that I genuinely want the next Nintendo handheld to be named 4DS?? idk I think it sounds pretty cool and since it's a number higher than 3DS obvs, then there would be no confusion about the name. But at the same time, I wish Nintendo creates a completely new handheld with a completely new name/brand.

Adding a solid number on the end of the name is only way to be sure you're not confusing anyone in today's world of electronic iterations. So, I'd have gone with Wii2 and 3DS2 or Wii v2 and 3DS v2 or Wii G2 (wee-gee!) and 3DS G2. The "G" standing for generation.

The Wu
(The Wii-U)
Also referred to as the Wu-Game LAN
and
Diesenronpa
(New 3DS)
Yes I was sober when I did these :(

or

New Wii
3DSU
^ (I'm pretty sure this has been posted already)

Wii 2
3DS Plus

Wii 2 means it's the successor to Wii.
3DS Plus means it's 3DS plus some stuff.

I admit that I didn't think too hard about this.

Those are exactly the two names I thought of before entering this thread. I guess great minds think alike and all that.

I guess Super Wii for Wii U (really can't thing of a better name, and it's weird because Wii U is nothing like Wii so IDK, maybe a new naming scheme).

Now New 3DS should've been 3DS+ and 3ds XL+. The marketing writes itself:
"Check out the new 3DS+!
It's a 3DS
+ super stable 3D
+ C-stick
+ better processing power
+ better battery life
+ faceplates (for the small 3DS+)
+ new exclusive games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D"

Adding a solid number on the end of the name is only way to be sure you're not confusing anyone in today's world of electronic iterations. So, I'd have gone with Wii2 and 3DS2 or Wii v2 and 3DS v2 or Wii G2 (wee-gee!) and 3DS G2. The "G" standing for generation.

The difference is that the n3ds isn't a completely new piece of kit, just a slightly better modification.

I know; I personally really enjoy my PlayStation Portable 2.

But Sony didn't call it PSP at all. It got called Vita. In comparison what Nintendo did would have been tantamount to Sony releasing the Vita under the name PSP Go.

Wii 2
3DS Plus

and yeah you read my mind EXACTLY

I honestly liked the Wii U's "Project Cafe" working title. I think "Nintendo Cafe" would would had been a fine name for the Wii U.

As for the New 3DS, I was thinking along the lines of "Super 3DS" but I'm actually liking the "3DS Plus" suggestion more.

Nintendo Entertainment System
New 3DS

I don't see how "3DS Plus" is any more informative or less confusing than "New 3DS". "Plus" is performing the same function as "New". Plus what? Plus features? New 3DS what? A new version of the 3DS? Ok.

Wii 2 is better than Wii U but also boring. "Rebooting" would have been more effective, imo. People know the Nintendo brand. People grew tired of the Wii brand, although Nintendo didn't want to acknowledge that fact. So fall back on the brand with healthier market image.
