What Zelda game has the best ending?

It will always be ALLTP. I used to love old game like that where after beating them you kind of went through a tour of the land seeing the characters from the journey. Several games did it at the time, not at all these days.

MM was also great.

Serious question, why do people hate the BOTW story so so much?

I get that they way the story is presented might make it look vague, but this is the first Zelda with voice acting. It has several really awesome cut scenes chronicling the past story while catching up with the world. I felt that for a Zelda game it was a step forward because I don't remember any of the other games giving this much effort to the cut scenes.

So seriously, why do people hate the BOTW story? It is presented differently vs the rest of the series, but I liked it a lot. Zelda had personality, all the champions had personality.

Well... I wanted to learn more about what happened before Link went to sleep.

Midna was essentially the main character of Twilight Princess IMO

the game is named after her :)

I love it to bits. Non-linear presentation, everything. One of the most underrated parts of that game.

So happy to see so many people choose the correct answer (OoT).

It was simple, yet emotional, and satisfying. The perfect ending.

Same here i guess that's why the subtitle was Twilight Princess probably. She is one of my most favorite Zelda characters in the franchise with Link, Ganondorf and Zelda and i have a small tattoo of her imp form on my upper arm.

Some people shit on the game but imo the story was fantastic. Shame we have never seen the Twili or Midna again outside of TP and Hyrule Warriors atleast they kept some neat references in BotW tho.

Well there it is:P

I played them all in sequence about 4 years ago, and Skyward Sword's stands out. I really liked BOTW's too. The post-credit piece was such a beautiful way to complete the circle.

I loved ALBW. So sweet.

Windwaker was good too.

And while technically not the ending, I loved the final segment in Twilight Princess with Zelda with you on Epona firing the bow.

Still haven't finished MM, but the games I remember always had amazing endings. Nintendo are quite good in that aspect.

Even BoTW
Zelda acting the complete no fucks badass and kills Ganon for good
. Although I'll wait for the extra DLC story to fully decide how good it is alongside the other ones.

Best ones go to WW and TP (Especially the latter - because Midna pretty much stole the show and became my favourite side character - miss her)

I don't mind the approach to the presentation but the core problem with the game in pretty much every area is it's all build-up with no real payoff or worthwhile climax. I also find that they kind of sabotaged Zelda's character arc by not letting her initial failure actually be her fault. The game just never got me emotionally invested and every opportunity they had to actually elicit a emotional response they fumbled it, particularly during the final dungeon and the ending. Honestly, the only bit of the game that got me a little choked up was
Fi
and if that isn't a damning statement I don't know what is.

Apparently, that doesn't actually happen.

I'm on the Majora's Mask train, you got to see the results of all your hard work with the people you helped. it was very rewarding

BoTW didn't feel like an ending at all. It was like ABSOLUTELY no resolution to all your efforts. I feel like the DLC is the true Epilogue (hopefully). I was still satisfied but i wouldn't call what followed the last boss an ending.

Majora's Mask.

No other Zelda shows Link so clearly as the hero he is, or, from a gameplay perspective, exactly how much you've actually done through your play through.

Plus, MM still has the best plot, atmosphere and living, breathing feeling world of any Zelda title. All of which comes together to deliver one of the most satisfying conclusions to any game ever made.

Right on.

This one has the catchiest tune

Wind Waker for me - the idea of having to really say goodbye to
Hyrule after the big mid-game reveal of it was pretty poignant. That and the awesome final blow and the king's sacrifice.

I actually thought the final boss of BotW was great and exciting(but much too easy comparatively), but I think in general you're just left wanting more - more of a challenge and more finality - I wish they would've really gone all in on this being THE
last time Link fights Ganon or any form of Demise - even just fighting a final Demise again would've been a really cool bookend to everything from Skyward Sword. That whole line about giving up reincarnation had me really excited at first and then I was let down by the resolution(or lack thereof) of it all.

At the time, Ocarina of Time had the greatest ending of any video game and not just Zelda. When they meet again, for the first time and the screen fades to B&W...perfection in every way. Every Zelda game since just tying catch up.

LTTP. Those SNES era Nintendo endings were all great--Star Fox, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island.

Gets my vote.

Watching the credits roll for those games while you bask in the glory of the SNES' sound chip showing off is as satisfying as gaming gets.

There's also the realization that any sidequests you don't complete the last time around go unresolved. So you let that one girl's sister get abducted by aliens. 😢
Thats the only one I went out of my way to do.

Majoras mask did have the most impactful ending for me based on all the sidequest payoff people saw.

Wind Waker and Link's Awakening for me. Both of them make my feel like crying for different reasons. Just very touching stuff.

Definitely The Wind Waker. It's the only one that really had strong emotional weight to me. There's something about that game that gets me.

Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Link's Awakening, Link Between Worlds, and Majora's Mask are top contenders...

... but Ocarina of Time takes top honors from me. It truly felt like the end of a long, classic fantasy story.

Can't decide which one I like the best. Many of them are great.
I really like the zelda Phantom Hourglass ending when Ciela's last words to Link before leaving. Especially the music though. Ciela's Parting Words Underrated zelda ending. imo

For me it is a competition between Wind Waker and Majora's Mask. That said, most of them have great endings.

Majora's mask no question imo

Skull kid shivering with anxiety and still obsessed with his notion of friendship. Mask salesman implying that death can be transcended while his masks stare out. Link getting the fuck out of there while he can.

Also seeing Linebeck in his boat in the distance was pretty cool (so he tranferred to Link's and Tetra's world, maybe that was his wish?)

If you're talking about just the credits, Skyward Sword wins hands down due to the Zelda story scenes and best staff roll theme in the series.

If we're talking whole end-game sequence... honestly... Spirit Tracks. The end sequence pulls the story, characters, and world really nicely along with amazing music and a great final boss.

I'm pretty sure his wish was to bring back his ship.
Ah i see, well still neat tho that he joined their world tho and in Spirit Tracks you see his grandson wich is pretty cool.

But maybe Linebeck and some other characters were brought to the world of the Ocean King by the ghost ship and simply brought back to the right place after the events of that game.

Spirit Tracks because pic related. Warning, NSFW:
ST-Holding-Hands.gif

This + Zelda helping putting the sword through the demon's skull + the epic music.... Damn amazing. Seriously it was pretty cute when zelda blushed to link and hold his hand.

Maybe the BotW dlc will touch abit upon Zelda's secret love to Link in that game too. We now have i think 3 games were they like (crush/love wise) each other well in BotW's case Zelda for sure Link dunno.

we havent seen the ending honestly, they knew they were going to expand on the story so they left that ending there

Even without the upcoming Epilogue, I like how minimal the story was in Breath of the Wild, which rarely compromised the gameplay. And when the story bits did come in, they were nicely spaced apart (& impactful) when they did show up.

I also liked how Ganon was an uncontrollable force of pure evil (though I wished his boar form was similar to that in ALTTP), rather than a homeless man from the desert that's been reoccurring in the more recent console Zelda games.

Maybe it's just me, but I liked how Breath of the Wild approached it's narrative & gameplay mechanics, without neither one getting in the way of the other.
