Whatcha Been Playin': April Edition

- Battlefield Bad Company: played SP campaign and a good 20 hours of multiplayer. I'm kinda burnt of it now, though.

- Mirror's Edge: gone through all the DLC levels. Now I'm trying to get at least 2 stars in every level. I'd like to beat the speedruns for some achievements, but I hated the SP campaign so much that I don't really want to. :(

- Beautiful Katamari: started the game yesterday. It's stressing as hell, but I love rolling thousands of things up to get a ginormous katamari. :D

Eww .. Well, that was disappointing. I got told that it was enjoyable but I found it overall meh. Even more repetitive than Assassin's creed.

At £8 for the collector's edition, I just couldn't resist, even knowing that the game was average. Well in the end I enjoyed it. Way way too short though, I grabbed the whole achievements in one single sitting, trying to get the last drop out of it.

I'm getting back to it since last patch.

Working on the achievements with my girlfriend. I couldn't stand the game until she proposed to put the voice and music volume to 0. Pretty meh anyway, why did that game received such praise I'll never get it.

Hey, this game is excellent. I didn't dig it yet but I'm loving it.

I can only imagine the face of the 10 years old who buys that game thinking that it's a "normal" game. When after 15 tries you fail to finish the first level, you're all 'wat'.

Great game. Just need to finish veteran, unlock unlimited ammo for the magnum gun, do a speed run, and get the last two treasures. Then onto Mercs. Meanwhile, my growing backlog cries.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

Absoutely fantastic game, its a shame it didn't get an "official" release in English.

I really think that Ys is one of those franchises that could do well in the US if given the chance. Its totally amazing how just about every Ys game that gets released in the US gets screwed up (Ys DS is a bad port, Ys PSP has terrible load times, Ys PS2 was decent).

I really love Ys series. Well actually I have only played I&II and IV - Mask of the Sun (SNES) but I loved 'em all. It's really great series.

BTW was Ys V - Kefin, Lost City of Sand for SNES released outside of japan ? Or do I have to wait for fantranslation.

Madworld
Animal Crossing LGTTC (OCD)
Chocobo's Dungeon (OCD)
Majora's Mask (started yesterday and got stuck after the first temple ;_;)

Pretty decent brawler, but it lacks that certain edge. I wish it was as good as River City Ransom... but it's not. :/

Yeah, it's just isn't the same :( But I have River City Ransom GBA on my to play list. Or should I just get the VC version ?

Fallout 3, Tomb Raider and Frontlines: Fuel of war. enjoying all 3 alot. all 3 are different enough.

finally tried out Assassins Creed. It was very cool the first 3 hours. Great graphics. after 3 hours I learned I stopped enjoying myself.

Maxing out my team with PES 2009 (Champions Road).. Love the RPG angle of this mode.

Still have to unwrap MadWorld.

The Last Remnant.
Star Ocean 4.
RE5.
Peggle(360)
Phantasy SP.
King's Bounty.
LoTRO and WoW on and off.

Just finished my 10 day trial of Warhammer Online and was pleasently surprised,I might stop WoW for a few months and grab this instead.

The star lately might be IIDX Empress.

R-Type, getting whacked silly at the greenery in Stage 4. I always feel like I have it, but there are always small mistakes. Stage 5 doesn't seem like it'd be that bad to learn, especially knowing I can get right down in the nasty at the top and bottom of the screen, but I feel like I'm missing something with 4.

Etrian Odyssey 2 is great. I'm poking into the 8th and 9th floors. Swooping by and swiping the feather. Wouldn't mind getting out of this ho-hum stratum. It's rare that I beat RPGs, but I've been sticking to this one a surprisingly long time.

Street Fighter IV, dicking around online and off. Same as it's been since release.

Was playing Space Invaders Extreme 2 the other day. It is not good. :| It's all about scoring and not about survival, unlike every good shooter ever, and even the scoring bores me in the first stage. That's not something I'd want to put up with every session.

Finally, we've been playing a little bit of KoF XI. I wish it were 98UM, but everybody else here likes the K' and the tagging and shit. We might have a middle ground in 2002 UM, but nobody has it.

Did you play the 1st one?

Saints Row 2
It's far from perfect, but it's by far the best sandbox game of this generation. It still falls quite a way short of the greatness of San Andreas, but then I imagine it will be a loooooooong time before we'll see a sandbox game as that again. I'm replaying the game right now and I enjoy almost everything, the one thing I really dislike is how frustrating some of the activities can get, other than that, I'm having a ton of fun. Lots of missions, lots of activities, good humour, tons of customizability, well-designed city, good soundtrack, good voice-overs and actually surprisingly good humour.

Hell Yes, as much as I liked GTA4 I had such a better time with this game. So much mindless fun and the cutscenes were very well done. Although the LaTD add-on is awesome. I prefer Johnny's story over Nico

I've returned to GTA4 a year after giving up on it. It's all kinds of awesome.

I'm wanna go back to this too.........sounds like the time off makes it better (removed from the hype?)

The Longest Journey (PC)
World of Goo (PC)
Beneath a Steel Sky (PC)
de Blob (Wii)
Disaster: Day of Crisis (Wii)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS)
Dragon Quest V (DS)

Sid Meier's Railroads (PC) - Lots of fun yet there's 101 things I could nitpick, too. It's simultaneously easy and overwhelming. It's easy overall as there are very few punishments for doing anything wrong, yet there are dozens of cities, with dozens of needs, so many ways to connect them all... hard to keep track of.

I tried to play Railroad Tycoon 3 first, downloaded it, installed, launched and found out it doesn't work on Vista. Why does Steam sell games that don't work on major OSes? For fuck's sake. Gimme my money back.

Also playing Miner Dig Deep (360 Community), which I've gushed about several times in other threads in the last couple days.

Have far too much on the go at the moment, I have to start to really knuckle down and focus on only a couple of them!

In order of rough time spending towards them:

Very occasionally also throwing in some PixelJunk Eden and Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

Tron 2.0: It's alot like No One Lives Forever and Deus Ex, except it all takes place in a computer of course. All in all, a pretty good game.

Shogun: Total War: I've been watching a ton of samurai movies lately so I just had to play something in that setting.. Got any recommendations for other samurai games?

Sword of the Samurai for PS2. It's really great game. One of must have games if you own PS2. Don't really remember how many techniques there were but I'm sure there were more then 40. Also 2 player versus mode was really fun, me and my friend probably clocked over 50 hours of dueling :)

Sword of the Samurai is a unique "semi-RPG" where you play a wandering samurai (or ronin to be exact as you seem to have no master) trying to make a name for yourself in Japan and ultimately to become a master swordsman if you win the Shogun held swordsman competition.

The gameplay focuses on improving and enhancing your somewhat terrible sword skill technique. As at the beginning of the game your sword play starts with what seems like "swinging a bat" rather than a sword technique, you improve your skill and techniques by "stealing" techniques by dueling with other swordsmen of which you add to your own library of sword techniques and customize which techniques suit your purposes.

The "semi-RPG" elements refer to the "skill and techniques" development of your character. The more duels, missions and bouts your character accomplishes, the more sword techniques your character will eventually learn as well as gradually increasing your character stats.

Thus dueling is the essence of the gameplay, may it be a friendly match with wooden swords or unofficial death matches using your steel sword (katana).

Swordplay techniques are extremely complicated at first, comprising of detailed forms: Stances, each with different types of attacks; Parrying and the ability to counter attack after a correct block; Stance Attack, the ability for a surprise attack against a correct stance and much more.

Learn all these techniques by dueling, learning from the local dojo's and ultimately gaining enough fame and skill to duel the many wandering master swordsmen that may teach you a thing or two about special sword skills.

Ninja Blade - I want a sequel such good cinema type moments which make it aswell as the combat
Gears of War 2 - Always for the multiplayer.
GTA 4 for te free mode mp mode.

And hopefully will get some GH:WT done.

Just finished The Darkness.
Overall, that was a good game. The story and the atmosphere were great, but the gameplay lacked something (but was fun), the loading was very annoying (PS3 version if that matters) and I often found myself with no knowledge of what to do or where to go next...

For 20$ it was worth it.

Now the question is what I'm going to play in the remaining weekend. I have Sly 3, Assassins's Creed and Little Big Planet. I'm leaning towards Sly, just beacuse it's sitting on my shelf for too long.
