Whatcha Been Playin': Christmas Edition

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - finished up the main story, now just tending to some of the secondary stuff. I had intentions of going for 100% synch, and might still try, but my blood pressure was skyrocketing on one of Leonardo's missions. So I stopped before I had a coronary. And MP keeps getting better. People are developing new and stealthier strategies, and I've found a fun bunch to play with. Reached level 50 (the Officer looks so bad ass) and now I'm working on raising my average score per session. My GotY :D

Heavy Rain - just finished this tonight, but I think I'll give it one more play through to see how some other options pan out. The game hasn't exactly been what I expected. Very little time actually spent solving the mystery, and more time dodging punches then I thought there'd be. Cliched story too, but I'll admit that it kept me interested. I'm confused on the ending, because I thought
Norman had died since I screwed up the QTEs, but he showed up in the ARI and I received a trophy for keeping 4 characters alive. Huh.

If you saved Shaun, he counts as one of the four
.

Halo 3: Almost halfway through the campaign, its pretty good, similar in some ways to Halo 2, but unlike in others

Freedom Fighters: Been playing a level every now and then, good last-gen fun

I'll be playing others soon (Reach after Halo 3 most likely)

The second one. And I thought I had won it! I think I only missed two prompts, but
Norman fell off the conveyor belt and I can only assume he was crunched up in the grinder thing. Poor guy.

Dragon Age: Origins

Beat VVVVVV the other day. Right now I'm going through hard on Vanquish and playing Red Dead Redemption on and off. I planned on beating Halo Reach on Legendary co-op online but the system is so shitty I won't bother. Bungie thought having you vote on difficultly for random levels was a good idea? Really?

Co-op DKC Returns, a bit of Super Meat Boy and tons of Mass Effect. Played through ME2, then went back to ME1 then played ME2 again, all the sidequests and everything. Probably racked up about 70-80 hours of Mass Effect in the last 2 or 3 weeks, yikes. A bit burnt out on it now, but I do love the series.

What game is this?

Also, I've been playing Vanquish (Not as good as Bayonetta but still great), Shank (flawed but fun), and I got AssBro as a Christmas gift so I'll definitely be getting into that soon.

So good, yet it manages to kick my ass.

I realized I no longer able to play FPSes with a mouse...

I played like 2 minutes of it, but I really hate the pausing during hits-reminiscent of DMC2.

Far Cry 2 (PS3) - Act 2. 69% Completion. Now that I actually had time to play the game (I'm about 20 hours in and will be finishing it in a day or two) I have to say that it actually did get better the more I got into it. It's ambitious and has a lot of good ideas (open world FPS, buddy system, sandbox gameplay), there's also a lot of other little things that keep it from being truly great (plot is pretty thin, checkpoints are annoying and make traveling great distances a chore without taking the bus, focus on realism with used weapons jamming and having lengthy animations for healing wares this after a while especially in battle). I'm still having a lot more fun with this than I ever did with instincts.

Rep Grinding in WoW (Finally have the Rock people in Deepholm done.)

Need For Speed HP (Such a disappointment for me.)

Gundam Musou 3 (Love it for the most part, just wish it was Zero Custom instead of TV. Unicorn, OO Raiser and Tallgeese II are all lovely though.)

Kirby's Epic Yarn - Gorgeous game with some surprising challenges for the perfectionist. Finished it just before Christmas.

Okamiden - Finished this just yesterday. Much better combat and brushplay than the PS2 version, but still has the same overlong cutscenes, made worse since I can't read Japanese. The characters seem to pull "I have to go, my planet needs me"s way too often as well.

Legend of Zelda: Adventure of Link - brutally difficult and archaic combat so far. Beat the first dungeon this morning and got frustrated with the lack of direction but am thoroughly pleased with the atmosphere.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. Rather late to the party, but like a bedraggled yet hardened Stalker coming in from the rainswept dreariness, I finally made it. And it is glorious. Brilliant atmosphere.

Uncharted 2 on Crushing
Fallout new vegas
Fifa 11 (multiplayer)
Lara Croft Co-op with a friend (SOOO MUCH FUN!)

Golden Sun: The Lost Age

want to start either

Valkyria Chronicles or Demon Souls (I don't like playing more than 1 RPG at a time)

Cataclysm - just finished Gilneas for the first time. Great zone
Machinarium - Clever and just a lot of fun to look at
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines - Starting to doubt I'm man enough to play through the original Commandos. Might try skipping to the second one.

Next week I get home and can return to Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, woo! Between the Steam sale and Christmas presents I have plenty to try. By this time next week I hope to be waist-deep in Castlevania: LoS...or Darksiders. Enslaved...? Hmmm, maybe RDR. Good dilemma to have. :D

Dragon Quest IX (DS) - I am beginning to feel overwhelmed by the number of possibilities available to me in DQIX. Right now I have three fyggs and I'm just running around leveling characters in new vocations. I feel like I could easily spend over 100 hours in this game, and I'm loving it so far.

Rhythm Heaven (DS) - I got this for under $15 at Big Lots (I didn't even know they sold DS games) a few days ago. It's amazing but extremely frustrating. Worth the money for sure, though.

No More Heroes (Wii) - I finally got around to finishing this. The ending was hilariously absurd. I am sure I will be doing a full New Game+ playthrough for all of the awesome extras.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (Wii) - So yeah, basically everything I've heard about this game has been true: it's technically the superior game in almost every category when compared to NMH1, but I don't like it nearly as much. I am really enjoying it, though.

The soundtrack is very different in feel but also excellent. I got over Takada's non-involvement when I saw that Jun Fukuda oversaw all of the sound (he gets almost no love despite writing a lot of the music I've loved from Grasshopper games). The 8-bit jobs are pretty cool. I actually miss the "sandbox" stuff from NMH1, which I disliked at the time, but I now realize it 1) slowed the pace of the game down in a positive sense between fights, 2) "characterized" the city to a degree, providing a feeling/tone and backdrop for the action of NMH1, and 3) was very well-designed and enjoyable to look around even if it was completely barren. I would have preferred another explorable town map with new "trip skip" features for the more mundane travel tasks. Suda had better get off his ass and write/direct the next one, if there is a next one.

And the third ranked fight
that took me all the way from number 50 to 25 was fucking horseshit. "Damn, look how much game I have ahead of m--oh, never mind :(

That's about all in the past few days.

Dragon Quest IX
Super Meat Boy

Okami - but I don't know if i will be able to pass the sunken ship without dying from an heart attack. The ghost face jumping from nowhere on the screen scares me every time. :lol

Was playing Assassin's Creed 2.
Now playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Demon's Souls, Nier and Valkyria Chronicles 2. Possible Deux Ex too.

It's Xmas, so I played some Wii, finally tried Wii Sport Resort, still a piece of crap. Galaxy 2 is God-tier though.

I played a bit of PixelJunk Shooter the other day, I finished it the day it came out but lost my save months ago, I plan to finish it again before the second one comes out.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 only pretty much, did the main story only to find out Killer Bee is hidden behind a bunch of sidequests. :(

Been laid up with a cold, so to cheer myself up I've been wallowing in the ultraviolence of God Of War III.

Can't help but feel I was a bit unfairly luke-warm on it at the time of release. The graphics are still jaw-dropping and I think its a better game than people (certainly I) generally give it credit for. I feel a revision in my GOTY standings may be in order.
