Whatcha Been Playin': Labor Day Transition Edition

Pretty interesting week we've had in gaming. LizardSquad DDoS attacks, New 3DS models, Miyamoto throwing shade at casual gamers, Saints Row 4 is coming to current gen consoles, and PAX Prime is going on.

Side note: Due to maxcriden's numerous obligations, I will be taking over his thread making duties.

Gravity Rush (Vita) - Finished it. Currently working on completing all the side missions and getting the platinum. Now I see why people want the sequel on Vita so badly. The cel-shaded graphics and graphic novel storytelling really look nice on the thing. Makes me sad to think that it will probably no longer be getting games of this quality. I just bought all the DLC too so I'll probably be getting into that very soon.

Now, aside from end of summer barbecues and other leisure activities, whatcha been playin'?

Fuse- don't judge me. I'm playing it because I'm really excited for Sunset Overdrive. I've played it through once before and it's not terrible. Just really, really mediocre. Maybe it's some weird type of comfort food before Destiny hits.

I just...don't judge man.

Infamous First Light- running through the arena battling fools. It's alright.

Virtua Tennis 4 vita- On my third region in season mode. Fun and simple tennis mechanics with some really good looking graphics.

Dragon's Crown (Vita) - Finished it all the way through 1 time. I guess you have to complete it 3 times to get the true ending. I think I'm done with it but I really enjoyed it and I was not expecting to.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (PS4) - The game looks great and it's essentially Team Fortress 2. I don't really enjoy it that much though.

Diablo 3 UEE (PS4) - I'm going to start this up this weekend. Haven't played it at all yet but I'm looking forward to it.

I also want to buy The Golf Club on PS4. I just don't know about the price. It's a little more than I want to spend.

Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment - PS Vita. Having a pretty great time with this single-player "MMO". It helps that I enjoyed the anime a lot, although the VN and "fanservicey" bits of the game aren't exactly to my liking.

Diable 3 UEE for PS4.

Had someone bail on buying a copy of Madden 15 from me that I got a nice deal on. Wasn't going to, but I might just keep it and try my hand at Madden for the first time in years.

Just got my copy of Metro redux in the mail for PS4, so might try a bit of that as well.

And I'd like to give Fez a go since it was free on PS+.

After working 115hrs this past pay period, I'm just going to veg out and game all weekend.

A crap load of 3ds games and a bit of Wii U. Also 1 PS4 game.

Pokemon X - I'm finding this game to be a real grind. But not in a traditional rpg grind-y way. That part I don't mind. I guess my biggest issue is I find the hub world town to be more confusing than it needs to be. Also, the map in this game blows.

Super Mario 3D World - Wow. I got hooked on this game, it's amazing. I sat down to play and before I knew it 4 hours had flown by.

Kirby Triple Deluxe - An absolute joy to play. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was playing. No big gimmick to this game (that I've seen so far) just classic Kirby. It really is a vastly under rated 3ds game.

The Golf Club - Yeah, I don't like this game. PS4 games shouldn't look this bad. And maybe it is going for that "real golf is frustrating too!" feel but I don't like how there is so much guess work and luck involved in a video game released in 2014. Mediocre, and it feels like it's not finished. The commentator is a real dick, but I like him. Best part of the game.

Baten Kaitos Origins - Enjoying the combat, card system much more than the first game. Guillo is awesome so far. Jury's out on Sagi (standard fare at this point) and Milli ("Girl with ulterior motive who may change her ways when she gets to know the group better" is my guess?) though.

Just Cause 2 - 55% done, playing on Hardcore, going for the Platinum. Been playing for about 70 (!) hours. I would love to see a Just Cause 2 Remaster with multiplayer mod on PS4 or an announcement of Just Cause 3.

Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare (PS4) - Hands-down the best shooter of the year.

Diablo 3 Ulimate Evil Edition (PS4) - Just started, so I don't really have an opinion yet.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (PS3). I thought I was over multiplayer shooters (haven't really enjoyed one since BF:BC2), but this game is crack. Can't say enough good things about it.

Rogue Legacy (PS3): Also crack. Amazing game. Beat 2 bosses and am around lvl 120.

The Legend of Dragoon (PSX). Picked it up in a flash sale about a month ago, didn't like it at first, but has grown on me. Still on Disc 1.

Fire Emblem Awakening: Never played it when it came out, with the characters appearing in smash I decided I'd get around to actually playing it

Mario Kart 8: Been trying to unlock all the vehicle parts.

Wii U:
Nearing the end of my Hero Mode run in Wind Waker HD. Going for 100%, have nearly everything done and collected. Good times. Just put away Super Mario 3D World for good too. All Stamps, everything done and collected, Champion's Road conquered.

Xbox 360:
Still making my runs of Radiant Silvergun. Slowly making progress and learning the game each time I play it. Still chilling out with Banjo-Kazooie too.

PS2:
Playing through Dragon Quest VIII for the first time. Actually, I've tried playing this before, but it was back in the day when it first released and I dropped it for whatever reason. I'm the furthest than I have ever been. Really enjoying it.

3DS:
Downloaded Gunvolt today and loving it. Haven't checked out Mighty Gunvolt yet, but will over the weekend. Also downloaded Summer Carnival 92' RECCA and The Mysterious Murasame Castle today and I've been farting around with them too. Totally portable-core right now.

Just JRPGs

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Last thing I was doing was fighting Elkronig and getting my ass kicked. Really fun game even if it relies on RNG a little too much.

Persona 4 Golden: I've already played through Persona 4 multiple times, but this is my first time playing Golden. A lot of cool stuff was added which makes it feel like a whole new experience.

Final Fantasy 7: I'm trying to playthrough all of the FF games. Game is fun, but some of the minigames are kind of clunky. Also, not a fan of random battles, but its FF so what can you do.

World of Tanks 360 Edition - best multiplayer game/franchise in years. Just too addicting. I long for the day that this comes to the XB1.

Demons Souls - I play my single player games very slowly. Been picking away at this game for a year and a half. Its a masterpiece - and the more I play it the more I think its probably better than Dark Souls.

Guardian Heroes (360 arcade) - finally got around to play the 360 port (ive owned the saturn edition for a long time). Its still as good and fun as I remember.

Radiant Silvergun (360 arcade) - Im on a Treasure kick. This is one of my all time favorite games. Its timeless.

Dead Space - Im on chapter 7, this game is giving me a headache because the viewpoint is too zoomed in to the character. Its getting very repetative too - its scare factor has gotten stale. Im probably going to quit playing it.

Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles, and with renewed vigor thanks to Shulk being in Smash!

3DS: Azure Striker Gunvolt: Was a bit worried after that impressions thread a little while back, but honestly, the game feels very much like MMZ and was very easy to get into. The shoot-->light 'em up combat is simple sure, but the challenges (and actually getting a damn S rank) are kind of addicting once you get a feel for the level. Other than the bosses, the levels aren't too much of a chore to get through.

Mighty Gunvolt is super weird. I only played the first boss as Beck. My NES MM skills are rusty as hell.

Xtreme Sports Completely forgot about this game. Saw it in Ninty Power back in the day along with Shantae. I don't completely get the controls or how you get air on the half-pipes though.

Steam: Skullgirls Getting hyped for Eliza and Beowulf!

King of Fighters XIII Thank ye, Humble Bundle gods, been waiting for this one to go on sale. That said, only played a bit, Gunvolt and XC have priority.

I've been playing Yugioh Duel Arena's Quest mode on Miniclip's site using the free random card decks you can get once per day, but if you don't pay an in-game currency fee, you'll end up losing them after several duels you used each one for, so I forgot about that and lost my Nightmare Penguin deck. On the bright side, I just beat the AI opponent's Gogogo Golem boss deck using my Summoned Skull Archfiend deck It's been a pretty addictive game and intense moments at times too, but you can only play a few duels a day if you do it for free. Two more bosses to go, until I clear that stage of the quest mode, but their the hardest ones yet!

I forgot which AI opponent I battled earlier today, but I made two mistakes and thought I'd end up losing, but after a long duel, dumb luck on my side, and with only 200 Life Points left, I managed to receive the exact card I needed to win the duel to special summon a powerful monster with the perfect special ability, and used it to kill the one monster on the AI's side of the field that it foolishly left in face-up Attack mode. I had to go up against the Relinquished monster. It royally screwed me over for about half the duel once it used its special ability to take control of my most powerful monsters and I couldn't kill it otherwise I'd lose my own Life Points instead of the AI's. Then it summoned a freaking second Relinquished monster along with another monster that could switch one of my monster's attack and defense points. What an intense duel it was!

Earthbound - Playing for the first time. Just got to Scaraba. So far I think the game isn't quite as good as its made out to be (mostly cause the combat is pretty meh. A poor man's Dragon Quest.) But overall I can understand why its so loved. Ignoring my gripes about the combat and its just so fun and charming. Gotta say - Fourside/
Moonside
were definitely the highlight so far.

Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition - Going for the Platinum for this. Have about 10 levels to go for my hardcore character and once I get that trophy everything should be smooth sailing from there.

I had the day off and got a healthy jump start on Mass Effect 2. First time playing through, initial thoughts are that it's slicker, more polished, and has a much nicer UI. I sorta miss the Mako though...

Anomaly 2 - The voice acting and writing isn't that great but I'm still having some fun destroying alien towers

Invisible Inc. - I've only played a couple hours and I like what I've played but I definitely have to get better at turn based games

So far I'm finding it okay. Good enough to keep on playing, but it's not blowing me away.(PS4)

Still going through Bravely Default on the 3DS, don't know if I'll finish it. So far it's been kinda boring, feels like a chore.

Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare has been a blast to play every single day(PS4).

I bought Lifeforce from the wii u vc about an hour ago. Man I loved this game back in the day. I played it for a little while and yeah I suck at this game. Luckily the Konami code still works, and I still can play the whole game and beat it. Still I suck at getting all powered up, I remember when I was younger I could have missiles firing from the sides while I had 2 options firing lazers and just obliterating everything. Now I feel lucky if I can have ripple for a minute.
Also these levels just seem hilariously non-sensical nowadays

Pokemon Y

After getting 4 pokemon breed and trained, I've started tearing it up online and with people at work. My shiney ferrothorn is legit.

Blood Dragon

Excellent game. I might reset the garrisons because I played through the game with out buying a single attachment.

AC: New Leaf

Cleaned up on the stalk market. I paid off my latest home expansion. Now I've been touring my HHA and buying every TV I can find. I want a room full of TVs.

Danganronpa 2: Trophy cleanup and Island mode.

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Starting this on Labor Day while I'm commuting down to Denver

UNiEL: Gotta shake off that rust.

Infamous First Light
Haven't started it yet, but seen a lot of people were enjoying it.

Diablo 3 on PS4
Playing as a crusader and having a blast.

Tales of Xillia 2
Pretty fun so far, don't get the complaints about it.

Ys 1 so far and almost done with it. After that I think I am going to finally jump into Diablo RoS, and I will probably work in some quality Danganronpa to finish it off.

Madden NFL 15 via EA Access on Xbox One: Very good looking and the defense mechanics are ace.
Battlefield 4 via EA Access on Xbox One: will start it tonight, excited for my first Battlefield.
Sleeping Dogs on PS3: I'm liking this game more and more every time. Second half of the game, enjoying the combat and gunplay. Technically is very rough, I can see why they wanted to remaster it.

X360: The Saboteur, Diablo 3: UEE, and Ultra Street Fighter IV. I'm playing other titles but this is my most immediate rotation.
