Pair of OG Xbox exclusive racers, considering I picked up one for twenty bucks from a classic gaming store.

Now, I'm a massive fan of PGR, but I started with PGR 4 and 3 first, and while those games are fantastic, I never got the chance to play the first two due to me being a Playstation guy in my youth. I did play PGR 2 on a 360, but that didn't feel right (And the emulation process managed to eliminate the original soundtrack and radio stations) So when I got the OG Xbox, I popped both of these in.
First off, PGR 2 is amazing. It seriously is. The list of cities is bar none, the best in series followed quite closely by 4, with it's eclectic mix of cities that are rarely tread (Yokohama being a prime example). The car list, while not as bombastic as 3 was, or as focused as 4 was, represents a great little time capsule of the good cars from 2003 and back. The addition of SUV's is a nice touch as well.
The original PGR, meanwhile, has a weird feeling about it where you can tell that Bizarre had ideas that would be placed later in the series, but they were still stuck in the mold that was present with Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast. I really like the gradual difficulty system instead of the system that would be used in PGR 2 and onward. It's also one of the best looking launch games I've seen, up there with Ridge Racer 7. All the environments feel like the city they were based on, and the actual car models are some of the best present in the sixth generation of consoles.
The death of the PGR series with the closure of Bizarre and before that, the dropping by MS, is sad, but it's fantastic that the perfectly balanced pseudo-sim racing has been passed on by it's spiritual successor, Driveclub.
