Whatcha Been Playin': Pimp Your Console Edition

L3Nv6.jpg

Mother 3 (GBA) is a fantastic game, seriously. I think it's in my top 5 JRPGs of last gen.

By the time you beat it, that'll be top 5 jRPG of all time.

I've been playing Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, and been going through Dead Island. I'm a little more than 50% done with Dead Island and I'm hoping that I can finish it this weekend.

Sigh as in, "this is bad" or sigh as in "RIP Game Republic"?
It's a "pretty bad" sigh. But I've gone too far to not finish it. Shame, as there is a lot of potential.

I don't know too much about Game Republic other then Folklore and Majiin. The former game had a neat setting but then everything else about it was bleh. After playing a good chunk of Knights Contract I'm pretty convinced that they really didn't have a handle on game design.

I finished the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars solo campaign. A very good game, not quite great. Can anyone tell me if the other modes (Skirmish and Challenge I think) are worth it ?

I'm probably gonna finish Red Dead Redemption tonight or tomorrow. Setting aside, this is very much like GTA IV.

I will play more of Dustforce.

And probably start a new game, but I don't know which one.

AssCreedRev. I'm not sure how to feel about this game. I understand all the things it is doing better than it's predecessors but I can't help but think that I had so much more fun with 2 and Brotherhood. It's like they just keep adding so much shit to these games that I'm overloaded with things to do. Like all these bomb variants. I'm never going to even use bombs. Fuck crafting them. Anyways, sorry, I got a little carried away for this thread. I'm having a fun time despite all this, I promise.

Started up another game of Morrowind. Also trying to get back into Darksiders. I stopped playing somewhere around the black temple. The game felt like a chore to play at times but I have to finish it.

When it comes to recent games, I've been bouncing around a lot between Skyward Sword, Mario Kart 7, and some offline Ultimate Marvel VS. Capcom 3 lately. Then, since I've had an itch for some Megaman that needed scratching, I busted out some Zero 2 (I wish I had the collection, I crave some Zero 3), X1 - 4 on the X Collection disc and Megaman 9 which I've had but neglected for quite some time.

I need to go and play more GGPO Vampire Saviour though, been a while since I touched the game.

I am horribly addicted to one game. I've finished it twice. Taking a slight break from it, so I can actually play and maybe even finish Skyward Sword.

I just started Bastion this week. I'm enjoying it so far but I'm not nearly as blown away as so many people seemed to have been. It's a good game and all but I don't see anything great about it yet. Maybe that'll change as I get farther in. I have no idea how long the game is but I've put in about 3 hours so far.

I'm playing all of these at the moment.

Just beat Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP a bit ago. Didn't know what I was getting into, but I loved it.

Might get back into some Rayman: Origins and/or Skyrim this weekend if the mood strikes.

Super-Mario-3D-Land-Logo-600x320.jpg

Going for 100% on this. I think this might be my favorite Mario game ever. If you have a 3DS and don't have this game..GO BUY IT NOW.

Star Wars TOR: Playing with my best bud and as a Sith Mar, enjoying the character but I have a hard time because I hate Star Wars, the music and the sound effects make it so I can barely stand to have it so it isn't muted.

Outside of that haven't been playing much, mainly just waiting for next month to get here because it's the start of like a dozen games im hyped for.

Shadows of the Damned (PS3) - Hit a wall with Act 4-1....the aiming/gameplay is crappy, but damnit I'm going to finish it. Or just shelve it indefinitely.

Infamous 2 - Decided to get started on this and I LOVE the user generated content ideas this game has.

Dead Space (PS3) - I actually loved Dead Space 2 (weird I know), so I figure I start with this. I'll try to pick up Dead Space 2 on PS3 (I beat it on the PC) for trophies and OCD'ness.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chickens - Shadow Complex with chickens OR Flashback 2K11. Take your pick. Just got started with it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Xbox 360) - Got started on the second mission.

I love the X series, but I never played 9. I heard it conflicted with the Mega Man Zero series, which I love to death.

This has been sitting in my backlog forever. Impressions?

I think he meant just Mega Man 9 and not X.

That and X6/7/8/9 as well as Command Mission all pretty much conflict with the Zero series from either small degrees to pretty much impossible to have them take place in the same time line.

Made som progress with some adventure games.

It´s ok. Weak puzzles, weak characters but a good premise for the story that´s pretty nicely told.

Back to the Future: Episode 2 (have three episodes left so I don´t need any spoilers

Very enjoyable. The only real downside is that the puzzles are far to weak.

Gray Matter

One the best adventure games I have played, despite poor 3d models and animations, and a bit weak ending. Surely one of the most underrated games of 2011.

Sonic Generations - It's far from perfect, but it's the first good Sonic game I've played in a long time. Beat it already, don't think I'm gonna bother with the extra challenge stages.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together - Near the end of Chapter 3. Really glad finally got to try this franchise out. It keeps kicking my ass, but it's sucking me in regardless.

Yesterday I was playing some Rockin' Kats, a NES platformer by Atlus.

rockinkats3.gif
rockinkats2.gif
rockinkats.gif

The thing about this platformer is that it has great game mechanics (you can swing yourself around using an extended arm and when you let go you can launch yourself at higher platforms or enemies). So that's great but unfortunately the level design is quite lackluster and rarely challenges the player to use this mechanic tactically. There are five levels, each featuring two bossfights which for some reason remind me of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers on the NES, so at least the bossfights are pretty good.

Mostly

Deus Ex: HR - The gameplay is great, but having to slog through that halfbaked story to get to the next gameplay section is tedious. Why is my character the worst voice actor in the game?!

Burnout Crash - Really didn't like it at first, but the more I played, the more I understood what the game wanted me to do, and the more I enjoyed it. I could nitpick it to death, but I have played it about 6 hours this week, so obviously I'm getting along well enough.

With a little

Super Crate Box - Bought the 99c iPad version, got frustrated with controls that couldn't keep up, so downloaded the free PC version with built-in 360 controller support and better music and it's amazing this version is the free one while the other one costs money. :p

Harm's Way - Was scanning through my XBLA games, realized I never played this before so I fired it up... s'alright. You race through various outdoor locations while avoiding turret fire and missles, or you play as one of the turret people and try to detroy the cars. Great premise, so-so execution.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 - A perfect sequel to a game that was already bordering on perfection.

So many games in one week. Where do ya find the time?

I really haven't been playing anything. I dabbled with .hack - Infection for awhile, but just a little. I'm waiting to get Arc The Lad Collection in the mail, so I'll be diving into that fairly soon.

So I was going to be only playing STALKER: Call of Pripyat - Misery, but then I picked up WipEout 2048. Holy shit. Holy shit.
I hate you.

I found myself starting up Halo CE Anniversary tonight after finding that I didn't really feel like playing anything else. I'm actually a lot more impressed with the "remastering" than I thought I would be, and the game still feels really enjoyable to play. I really only like CE's first few missions, I don't have much desire to retread anything that comes after The Silent Cartographer.

Earlier in the week I finally got around to playing Dark Souls for the first time and found myself quite enjoying the game. I've played about 5 hours worth and have rung the first bell.

Persona 3 FES - up to the final month, with a few more days left before the final bossfight opens up. It's snowing out today so I'll hopefully finish it sometime by this evening. Hopefully the final boss doesn't require grinding :P

ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 (360) - this game hasnt left my 360 since the day i got it. i love this game so much.

resident evil 4 (360) - just got to the castle, but ashley keeps on getting hit by those flaming boulders...blah.

Ok, finally got my copy in the mail of:

Dug into Acr 1 right away, but as I reached my first opportunity to save, found my virtual memory card (playing on PS3) was full. And when you're playing, there's no way to create space or a new virtual card. Had no choice but to power down. So now I have to start all over again. Blargh!

Still, I'm enjoying it. I know it's relatively short as I've beaten it before about 10 years ago, but I need the save file so I can go into ATL 2 which recognizes your Arc 1 file and opens up a new dungeon. (Or something like that.) The weird thing is I don't remember any of this game at all, and I'm 100% sure I finished it back in the day. So because of that I'm glad I made the decision to replay it from the beginning.

And I have to mention the Arc The Lad Collection packaging briefly. Oh my. It's so beautiful. Working Designs, I miss you so much. This game will sit nicely next to my Lunar 1 and 2 collections. As soon as I find a place to display them all.

SpellTower: Rewarding, but it takes too long to find words. It seems like when you make a 5+ letter word, removing all the surrounding blocks can be detrimental? It certainly makes it difficult to strategize.
SMT: Strange Journey: More Strange Journey. I'm kind of disappointed that the alignment bonuses discourage you from mixing and matching different types of demons. Maybe I'll start fusing powerful enough demons out of alignment that it won't matter as much.
Mighty Switch Force: Around Operation 10, it's starting to get fairly challenging. I haven't made a single par time, so the game seems to have a lot of replay value.
3DS should have trophies.

As usual.

It went free so why not? Not a great game, but it's fine from time to time for someone like me who loves TNG.

The best Sonic game since SA2:B.

Battlefield 3 (PS3)
Zelda SS (Wii)
PES 2011 (3DS)
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
Steel Diver (3DS)
Nintendogs (3DS)
Excite Bike 3D (3DS)
Broken Sword Shadows of the Templa (PC)

I'm playing all of these at the moment.

Vanquish (So underrated its a crime)
vanquishrevpic2.jpg

Man I absolutely loved Project Sylpheed. Only thing that stopped me from completing it was my profile got corrupted during a recovery and no saves were compatible. Couldn't be bothered starting again, but now I think how long ago it was I wouldn't mind starting again. Reminds me of the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games but in a diff universe obviously.

Vanquish was my runner up GOTY 2010 after Demon's Souls. Short but played on the harder setting for a first time through adds a bit of length. Love it.

Someone gifted it to me during the holidays and I've been enjoying it a lot. O:
Ezio's tale is more interesting than Altiar's anyways.

Got this during the Thanksgiving sale and having a lot of fun with it so far.

Playing some good old school styled RE to get the stink of the newer entries off my tongue.

Started this and pretty unfamiliar with the series so far. Thought this might be a good starting point.
