Whatcha Been Playin': Summer Drought Edition

Got it from best buy a couple of days ago for $5, decent game.

Currently in WoR with all characters recruited except for Gogo. I plan on doing a few more sidequests and AP grinding before taking down Kefka. Overall, it's one of my favorite entries in the series even if I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with characters, pacing, and gameplay.

Just messing around in the challenge mode leveling up my characters. This game is such an amazing nostalgia trip.

Finished The walking dead ep 1&2 last night, I loved every second of it and can't wait for ep 3!!!

Currently playing bastion and loving it so far. And also playing FF 13-2, 10 hours in and I'm not sure what I think yet? It's very complicated but it's starting to come together.

Max Payne 3 - PC

I finished the first disc already on Xbox 360, but I got the PC version as part of the Steam sale. Just finishing up the New Jersey flashback mission now before moving on.

Game's seriously awesome on 360 and PC. Loving it so far.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - GameCube (BC on Wii)

I've dabbled in it before, but I've never been gone back to it until now due to a lack of Memory Card on my part. So far, I actually don't know what to think. Right now, I have to find the NIKITA to get to Otacon in terms of the story.

Sidenote: seen a few people on this thread playing the original Darksiders (for what I assume is prep for Darksiders II). Yet, instead of feeling the need to play that, I have a need to actually go and play Skyward Sword.

Will I play SS? Will I find the NIKITA? Will I play either of the Arkham games as tempted yesterday following the early morning showing of The Dark Knight Rises? Will I see The Dark Knight Rises for a third time?

Tune in next week for all the answers - same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Playing it for the first time. Did Zelda in 3D before Ocarina of Time, and it's surprisingly good. Love the atmosphere and all the Japanese landmarks.

(on PC)

A great TD game. Love how much influence the player-controlled unit has on the outcome of every wave. I find the game somewhat exhausting so I rarely play more than 2 levels at a time.

The best game no one knows about. At least I very rarely see something about this game. The next N64 game in this series is an excellent 2.5D platformer, but hard as hell. Still highly recommended.

Just completed Max Payne 3 last week. It was nice, though not exactly a masterpiece. Looked amazing on my 2-month-old gaming rig though.

I've also been playing LA Noire, which I absolutely love. And to think I almost didn't buy it because of all the hate it gets from GAF... Simply an amazing and unique game, haters be damned. Just one case to go!

Since I don't have access to my PC this weekend, I also started playing Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on my Vita. Only four battles in though, so it's too early to say if I really like it... The presentation is top notch though.

Probably gonna start The Legend of Grimrock soon too. I actually bought it at launch but didn't play it then because my old laptop didn't run it very well. After I got my new rig, there were just so many other games to try (Diablo III, ugh...) so I've never gotten around to starting Grimrock properly. Should have waited for the summer sale...

Yeah this and it's sequel were one of the best games on N64 for me. Thanks for reminding me I should replay these sometime soon.

Yeah, it's a game I've been wanting to play all since my childhood. I finally found my old 64 a few months back and have been going through a few games. Next game on the list is probably DK64, which I was never able to beat back in the day (did not have enough banans and couldn't beat the arcade games!).

Looking forward to play the second Mystical Ninja somewhere down the line. Will pick it up once I find it for a reasonable price.

Played it last year for the first time. It's a shame it happened before OoT, as some flaws are hard to get used to. It must also have the weakest N64 graphics out of any of my games.
But still worth playing if you can overlook that. Also, dat soundtrack. ... and laughtrack.

Dragon’s Dogma

Pumped in about 5 hours over the last two days and I’m enjoying it a lot!

Like I said, I’ve played for about 5 hours and I’ve only left my hometown and made it to the second area! You so easily get sidetracked, and you can easily spend a really long time simply going through the menus. Speaking of menus, I love how easy and user-friendly everything seems to be. What a breath of fresh air! The core mechanics are rock solid, the game nails the most important aspect – the fighting. And I’m so glad it doesn’t forget to put fun first like so many other similar games. It just sucks that the quality isn’t evenly spread out, the game almost feels unfinished. The biggest let down are the graphics. The environments are really basic and everything looks like vaseline was smeared over the screen. However, the enemies, most of the animations and effects such as fire look completely gorgeous! So much attention was placed on the enemies and effects - and because of that the game at times can look great!

The first Ogre fight was freaking amazing! And yet the first town looks shockingly bad. The games quality is all over the place!!! Also, the voice acting for the main characters is good.....but man sometimes some of the random characters sound terrible. Some of them....wut? And I wish the game had more music – but I suppose it’s still early days. Overall I still love the game, it’s just plain fun. I’m actually having more fun with it than Skyrim, which is like the opposite of this game. Skyrim had amazing environments and mythology, while the combat was dog shit. This game on the other hand has amazing combat but is lacking in the environments and mythology. Oh and I almost forgot to mention – I loooooooove the little crates you can smash in this game, they are straight out of Resident Evil 4 down to the sound effect they make when you break them! <3

I'm (finally) going through my Steam backlog. Managed to finish:

Cave Story+: a really fun platformer, but I doubt that I'll have the nerves to get through the
Blood Stained Sanctuary
- Good End's good enough for me.
Alan Wake's American Nightmare: good thing I got this for 3 pounds, since the game's insanely short. I'd be disappointed if I paid 1200 MSP for this, even though I liked the original. The plot is average, the cutscenes are mediocre, but at least the gameplay was improved.
A.R.E.S.: from one of the -put a name here- Bundles. Smells a little bit like Megaman Zero, but the controls are much clunkier and the plot is basically nonexistent. Still, two-and-a-half hours of an "okay" game.
Professor Layton and the Spectre's Flute: this took me a while, but I've finally sat down and blasted through the last three chapters. Better than the third game, worse than the second one. The puzzles were just a little bit more diverse than in the previous entries, but the formula is starting to get a little bit tiring. That's why I'm waiting for PWxPL, to freshen things up a bit.

And right now I'm going through:

Hard Reset: goddamnit, this game is really hard on Hard Difficulty. I'm on the fourth mission right now, and so far it's been a really nice ride. The graphics are especially cool, since from what I know FWH guys created the engine almost from scratch.
Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP: too bad I'm playing it on Steam, this game basically screams "iOS/Android". The mouse controls aren't fun, but I have to praise the art direction and animation. A lot of work must have been put into both. Too bad the story is too strange/abstract/unfunny.

As lame and non specific as it sounds, I am working on my console backlog. I bought these baskets last week and just got around to sortimg my games this afternoon before coming into work. Everything pictured has not been completed, with a criminal amount never even being placed in a system. I'm posting them all because I don't really know specifically what I will be playing right now, but it will come out of the selection shown below! Not pictured: my JRPGs, party games like Rock Band/DJ Hero, and my completed games. This is strictly backlog. Also, no PC gaming this weekend! Consoles get 100% of my game time attention!

I'm working on a thread for later about how people organize large game collections, so you may see these pics again at a later date.

May I make some suggestions? RDR for open world and Prince of Persia (2008) for single player experience.

Completed Dead Island. During the last half of the game I gave up on side quests and if it was possible just sprinted past the zombies to reach the quest locations.
The melee combat remained enjoyable throughout but everything else is just a tedious slog.

I tried out Age of Empires Online for thirty minutes then immediately deleted it. So much bullshit to wade through when all I need to do in Age of Empire 3 is click four times and ten seconds later I'm actually playing a skirmish, which I did for ten hours this week.

Xenoblade: 36 hours in.

Binary Domain: Chapter 1 was boring, but chapter 2 is much more fun. I'm hoping it continues to get better.

Beat it last year, but replaying it again.

Pok%C3%A9mon_Trading_Card_Game_Coverart.png

Found it while doing so much needed cleaning. Soo good. In my personal opinion one of the most overlooked Pokemon game.

Shadow-of-the-Colossus-is-Comming-to-Europe-2.jpg

Picked up the HD release and currently on the 7th colossus.

Right now, I have been playing Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Persona 4. I'm thinking about either doing a second playthrough of Bayonetta or start playing Batman: Arkham Asylum

Infamous 2
My heart belongs to Empire City. I saved the city from the plague and it's thugs in infamous 1. I just didn't have the same feelings for the New Orleans knock off. I did enough side missions to unlock the powers I wanted but after that I stuck to the story missions and burned through the game in a weekend. The over all story is better but I wish they hadn't spelled out what the good and bad choices were at the end. It begged for moral ambiguity. Thank you for a good game Sucker Punch.

Wtf. I played the same exact games.

inFamous 2 was worse in my opinion. Story was way better in the first, the enemies were better and it didn't have Nix.

I was so hyped for inFamous 2 after I made my LTTP thread regarding the first one, but I was left disappointed. I kept hearing how the powers are so much better. In the end, who gives a shit? None of the powers are even close to useful. I wasted so much time unlocking powers on my Good-Normal playthrough, on my Evil-Hard playthrough I didn't even buy anything because all you need are the default grenades and the game is a cakewalk.

The "boss" fights were also mediocre, as I brought up, all you needed were grenades. Good game, but nowhere near as good as the first. Plus they changed Cole too much. I'd rather have "generic" Cole...whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.

Pokemon TCG is the best Pokemon game in my opinion.

X360:
Binary Domain - On chapter 4, really fun game. Love the setting and charm of it.
Street Fighter x Tekken - Using Akuma and Yoshimitsu.
Condemned - About 40% done, quite awesome.
Forza 3 - 12 hours in, level 35. Only 12% done, lol. Game takes forever.

PS3
Uncharted 3 - On chapter 6, so awesome!

There are some other titles I'm shuffling here and there.

The Witcher 2

Started my second playthrough after finishing it in April. Going to do the Iorveth path now. Absolutely love this game even more now because I do not have to learn anything anymore. I swear that the first time I started playing that it felt like hours before I finally got the hang of it.

Finally got Assassin's Creed I & II, the first game was okay, kind of repetitive, but I enjoyed it.

Currently playing the second one and it is glorious, one of the most polished and well balanced games I've ever played. HUGE improvement compared to the first one.

Also playing Bioshock 2 at the moment, it's a great game, but I liked the first one better so far.

Played the Max Payne games the past few weeks. Downloaded the first two Max Payne games off of Xbox Marketplace. Both were pretty fun, solid games, even though the first one looked really rough, especially in SD.

Didn't care as much for Max Payne 3. Looked pretty damn gorgeous, even on 360, and was top-notch in its production and sound, but overall, it just wasn't that fun to play. It was another current-gen sequel that felt dumbed-down and eschewed compelling gameplay in favor of presentation (adding to a list that includes RE5, MGS4, and SC Conviction).

Just started Rayman Origins yesterday.

Hey guys, odd question here but i need Help.

I've been trying to play Dracula Resurrection on PC and have windows vista with an ati card and quad core cpu. My problem is that the video sequences skip and i miss out on information. I have tried:: Disabling ati catalyst AI. Setting cpu affinity to 1. Using windows compatibility modes.

Dont know what else to do. Problem seems random. Not all videos skip but then they all do after i encounter it.

This is a longshot question but if anyone has any ideas it would be sweet. I also want to play The Last Sanctuary and that seems like it might be the same problem.

Spiderman Web of Shadows

Wanted to use this time on Fallout 3 but the fucking thing freezes all the time in crucial area. Fuck you very much for that.

on PS3 played until today London 2012 - the official game of the olympic games which was not bad at all, going back now to Enslaved
on wii I am finally playing Metroid Prime 3, on Xbox I'm struggling to go on with Child of Eden, because I have to move some furniture to play Kinect and I don't really want to do it :D
still playing Kid Icarus Uprising from time to time on 3ds, whilst I have just platinumed Gravity Rush on PSV: such a beautiful game, with some wonky combat controls; now on to Tactics Ogre Let Us cling together

May I make some suggestions? RDR for open world and Prince of Persia (2008) for single player experience.

I appreciate your suggestions! I'm about 4 hours into RDR right now and at least 1/2 way through PoP. I spent several hours on LotR: War of the North last night.

Just finished Modern Warfare 3 campaign on Steam [got it from the sale], was worth playing again for the better graphics (played on 360 before, I have a better PC now)

Thought of starting up Company of Heroes, but I haven't played in nearly 2 years after getting stuck of mission 12 according to the save file (out of 15 according to online). Should I just restart the game because I have a much better rig then I did then and/or because remembering the beginning will be important for later on. I'm wondering cause maybe I should just finish this one up and play Opposing Fronts after. Or is CoH pretty replayable?

Currently playing Xenoblade and attempting to find time to get back to playing Sorcery and the first Ratchet and Clank.

Bastion and Civilization IV. Lots of Civilization IV. Also need to start chipping through my now enormous Steam backlog.

I finished up Gravity Rush.

I'm still putting in time with theaterythm. And because of that game I started going back and playing FF games I havent played before (but owned)

So far I'm 7 hours into Final Fantasy 1. And it's pretty fun stuff! I like seeing which game mechanics were there from the start.
