Whatcha Been Playin': The Sky is Falling Edition

PixelJunk Shooter
Your ship can spin. I forgot about this early on and it caused some frustration later on. Also, just because you have a magma ship doesn't mean lava cools you down. Those are the two lessons I took away from this game. Overall it was fun, and I grabbed it for a song when the PixelJunk collection went on sale. If you find yourself looking for a simple relaxing game, then PixelJunk Shooter won't steer you wrong.

God of War: Chains of Olympus
After GoW 3, it's kinda hard to run across a Greek god and not want to kill it. Kratos is the lap dog of the gods and his frustration created by their broken promises is mirrored by the plight of the titans. It's a game of 3 parts: A Persian attack, Morpheus's arc, and the daughter arc. One might think that the sun falling out of the sky would be the craziest thing that could happen. Not by a long shot.

It's the daughter's story that becomes moving. And that's the most  insane thing in a God of War game. The feels.
From the point where Kratos gives up his powers to join his daughter in the afterlife to having to physically pry her off your body so you can fight once more, the struggles that Kratos has with his past finally become real.

I'm playing the PS3 version in 3D. I would not have turned on 3D if it were not for the prompt at the start of the game. It looks so beautiful and the game feels like magic is on my TV screen. It was late at night so I only able to play to the first checkpoint. It doesn't feel like a game. It feels like an experience. I can't wait to play more of it this weekend.

Every console seems doomed to failure at launch. People have long been saying that the stars are falling out of the sky in the gaming world. This weekend has seen real 'stars' fall from the heavens. 2012DA14 will pass between us and our satellites. Maybe it's time to stop saying the skies are falling and just duck and cover. Whatcha Been Playin'?

Monkeys have finally flown out of my butt. And this happened.

Skyward Sword - just finished the first dungeon. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it.

Mario U - already beat the main story. Need about 40 more star coins.

Dead Space 3 on Xbox 360. I just started disc 2. I'm enjoying it for the lost part so far. Lees spooky then the other 2 sadly.

Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean for Sega Saturn. Only near the beginning, but pretty looking.

Grandia for Sega Saturn. Completely in Japanese, but I have a walkthrough from the UK Sega Saturn magazine back in the day.

Mega Man 2 on the Nintendo 3DS. With the save states, maybe I'll finally beat it this time!

If my Mega Man X4 comes soon (Saturn), I'll also be playing that this weekend.

Need to collect 20 more familiars in Ni No Kuni to get the Platinum Trophy, then going to hit my backlog and play some shmups until MGRR and Crysis 3 next week :)

Dead Space 3 said:

Finished! I didn't play this game right. Just wanted to see the story. I rushed through it on casual and did basically zero experimentation with the crafting system. Made it through with the plasma cutter and a shotgun, which really became a chore in some spots even on casual. If I ever play it again I'll have to craft some stronger weapons.

Man, that's basically it this week. Not sure what I'll go after next. Still have quite a backlog to work on, but there are several games I've been itching to replay lately.

Dead Space 3 PC

Completed it on normal at launch. Now i'm giving the pure survival mode a go. Still think it's a pretty decent game. Wish i'd gotten it for the PS3 though, so i could give the coop a go with a friend.

Alien vs. Predator 2010 PC

With all the controversy over aliens colonial marines, I decided to give this game another go. Just been messing around with the marine campaign. Nothing amazing, but it's not half bad. I've jumped a few times surprisingly. Either I've became more of a wimp since i last played it or it's just scarier than i remember. The facehuggers really make me nervous, that's for sure.

A friend lent me his AvP2 disc a while ago. I should hunt that out and play it again for old times.

Four-day weekend for me!

Halfway through Actraiser on VC

Will be starting Ginga Force tomorrow on 360

La Mulana...my new game for the weekend on Wii

Gunhound EX on the good old PSP!

Just got a 3DS XL the other week, so I've been dividing my time between Kid Icarus Uprising and Fire Emblem. I've been working my way through Art Academy as well during my less gamey game time. It's all been keeping me from my goal of finishing Xenoblade Chronicles, but I guess I needed a break from that game anyway.

PlayStation All-Stars: trying out that new DLC. I'm loving playing as Emmett right now.

Persona 3 Portable: Finished P4G a while ago, so bought P3P this week. Barely started it, though.

Super Hang-On: Sometimes I just get the urge to play this, I don't know why. Not really one I'm playing to 'complete', obviously haha.

Dead Space 3 - I can now reliably determine if I'm going to like a game based on the exact opposite opinion of the GAF hive mind. Even a more impressive realization of the original Dead Space's vision of sci-fi horror than 2 was.

System Shock 2 - No real opinions on it yet (going into it completely cold) after only about 30 minutes of playing, other than to say I was expecting far more archaic visuals and controls. Excited to dig in.

DmC Devil May Cry - Insanely impressive character work and aesthetic design ideas. Also, combat, etc... Enslaved and DmC have elevated Ninja Theory to my must watch list.

PC:

106%-ing Super Meat Boy at 102 now..
Trying to beat the flagship on normal in FTL

3DS:

Virtue's Last Reward

Wii:

Picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2 again! What a game!!

Journey

Lost count at the amount of times I've played this now. Love the game, love the music. Can't stop playing.

Xenoblade Chronicles

A game I have attempted to play before, got 10 hours into it and was frustrated by a boss so quit. Due to Monoliths 'X' reveal and the distinct lack of quality WiiU titles, I thought I should have another crack at it.

I now find myself at level 54, 50+ hours in and absolutely in love with it. Another one with an amazing soundtrack, too.

What. A. Game.

Fantastic :)

Revisiting Resident Evil 6 (360), finally bought it and replaying after renting when it first came out. And noting changes with the updates.

Also recently started up Resident Evil: Revelations on 3DS XL. Yes, enjoying both titles.

Forza Horizon (360) - Finally picked this up on sale a couple days back, and then yesterday was V-day, so hopefully I'll have a chance to get deep into it this weekend. I guess this means my two month long run with Sonic Racing Transformed may have finally reached it's conclusion.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - Got this off PS+ a while back, but I only played the first couple chapters and put it down. Went down to the Dominican last week, and on the plane ride back ended up playing through Chapter 12, until the Vita died. I don't know how far I am from the end, but I'll hopefully beat it this weekend, so I can carry on with...

Persona 4: Golden (Vita) - I'm now about 30 hours in. I really have no far what that means in terms of my progress with the game.
Teddy has a human body at this point, but I am still waiting for whatever the next big thing is to happen
. I'm in no way trying to rush through the game, but I would kind of like to finish it at some point in this lifetime.

Bully: Scholarship Edition (360) - I wish I could say I understand why people love this game so much. I bought it for $10 during the xmas sales, or whenever it was on GoD for that cheap, but it does not feel like a game I would pay much more for. I just don't find the story the least bit interesting, the combat is boring and repetitive...basically I feel like I'm playing for achievements at this point, and normally when I start doing that, me putting the game behind me isn't far off. I'm through Chapter 3 now I think, so I've gotta be over halfway done, but man...does this game ever pick up? Like do the missions ever get interesting or is it just "go here and pull a prank or beat up a guy" over and over?

I'm finishing up my first playthrough of Persona 4 Golden (also my first time playing Persona 4), while I work on God of War: Ghost of Sparta for PS3 and I've just started Ni No Kuni. Also enjoying messing around with Tusk in Dota 2.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves HD (PS3) - I'm at episode 4 in this game right now, and so far I would put it on par with the first Sly Cooper game, although with a few improvements (can take multiple hits, graphically looks nicer, etc.).

Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) - Not very far in this and not a big fan of SPRGs, but I have enjoyed what I have played of this so far.

Singularity (PS3) - Solid FPS that has been in my backlog for years, and is super underrated too. It's like a big mix of Bioshock, Half Life 2, and Wolfenstein (2009).

Ni No Kuni - I'm really liking it so far. The E10ness of the game is really tripping me out though. Have to keep reminding myself that all games aren't as twisted as Shin Negami Tensei stuff.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 - Still trying to figure out if I'm dedicated enough to play at Evo this year.

Fifa Ultimate Team as always...

Plus Wipeout 2048 thanks to PS+ which is great.

And I got LBP Vita this morning which I'm enjoying too but there's faaaaar too many cutscenes.

PS Vita Persona 4- Im about 75% of the way in. Great game.

PS3 Ni No Kuni such a beautiful game.

Xbox360 The Witcher 2 trying to get into this, its menu system and crafting system is throwing me off a bit, but going to keep with it.

3DS Tales of the Abyss & Miles Edgeworth

PSP Suikoden first time ever playing this, found out about it through gaf, about 2 hours in and I'm really enjoying where its going.

PC Zafehouse Diaries & Blackwell Bundle love the story and art direction in Blackwell Bundle if your into adventure games at all this is a must get, on the 3 episode now. As for Zafehouse its a lot of fun really addictive, still haven't won once in like 7 hours of play but I'm getting better. Both of these can be found on GOG.

I'm ADD so I'll often play several different systems or games on any given day, basically give or take this is what I've been working on the last week or so.

It feels like the sky is indeed falling, as I'm finally getting to play System Shock 2. What a treat this is. Currently at the Engineering section, wrenching some hybrids, dodging turrets, all that good stuff. Had plans to wrap up Dishonored this weekend, but that's going right into the backlog, as this is so much cooler. Can't wait to dig deeper.

Also a little Rayman Jungle Run here and there. Pretty neat.

Dead Space 3:Blazed through this on normal over a couple of days. It seemed willing to provide what I wanted, but mostly on a level below my expectations. Still solid though.

Sleeping Dogs: Loving this game to bits. Despite the story being usual undercover cop stuff I am finding it rather compelling, and a lot of it comes down to the main character. It's refreshing to play a game with this kind of Asian focus, and seeing as how GTA seems to be dead set on remaining all the way Americana I'd be extremely happy to see United Front keep playing in this particular sandbox.

Kingdoms Of Amular

Bought this months ago and now just started playing .. Very Fable esque with a small hint of Skyrim just as not wholly story driven but on the whole its a great game with some pretty good vibrant visuals and a hell of a lot of questing to be done..

Enslaved

Again something in the backlog.. visuals and fluidity of controls are great although not actually all that far due to KOA.

Persona 4 Golden:
Yukiko's Shadow
is giving me too much trouble, I'm thinking of giving up.

Sly 3: I finally beat Sly 2 and i'm trying to rush through it to play Thieves in Time.

Ragnarok Odyssey: Repetitive yes. Though once you get to chapter 3 it really opens up.

Sly Cooper Thieves in Time: By the book Sly game but still fun.

Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy: Chapter 7. Trying to finally Finish this up.

Knytt Underground: Surprise game. Lot's of adventuring. Nice music.

Wrapped up Final Fantasy IX and moved straight in Final Fantasy XII as I make my way through my modern FF run. I skipped over X because I figured I'd just wait for the HD rerelease (if it ever comes out).

XII was never my favorite FF but I think I'm enjoying it a bit more this time around. Only 5-6 hours in, though. The goal is to beat XIII (never beat it) and XIII-2 (never played) before Lightning Returns comes out.

RPG Maker VX Ace: Made SO much good progress this past week despite having put in a 60 hour work week. It's mainly be due to my brother since his work schedule isn't as ridiculous as mine. Our demo is shaping up REALLY nicely. It's so fucking tight. We keep finding bugs & glitches during our test play and we cut that shit out immediately. It's crazy what can happen with scripting events! What we've been trying to do is iron out a lot of issues for this demo so the rest of the game will fall in place. We're hoping after this demo is done the rest of the process/game will produce itself faster, but we'll see what happens. Outside of work this game is the only thing I've got on my mind. I honestly can't get into/feel like any other games right now. I guess that's a good thing, right? I'm just becoming too passionate about this project, lol!

Like last weekend, I'll probably play some more Ni-no-kuni and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, but I'm honestly not feeling either two games so I'm in no rush to finish/play them. Will be getting MGR this week, at some point, and will focus on that in-between my project. Should be fun.

Lots of random games. Played a bit of CVS2, some Breaker's Revenge, and some Deus-Ex. Its been one of those weeks.

Binary-Domain-PS3-DUPLEX-2012RF.jpg

Awesome, awesome game. Just finished my first playthrough. Got it for $10 and it was well worth it. Every shooter fan should play this.

I'm really trying to clear every game I've missed this generation over the next few months, so I can get rid of the PS3 (just got rid of the 360 a few days ago) in time for the PS4. I'm currently working through BioShock 2 and Darksiders. Ni no Kuni arrived today, and Metal Gear Rising is preordered for Friday, so some exciting stuff coming up.

So far in Darksiders, I'm not very impressed. I'm about four hours in, and so far there has only been a single dungeon, which lasts less than an hour, which was good, but the other three hours have completely sucked. I'm seriously questioning the tastes of everyone who swooned over this game.

BioShock 2 is kind of fun, not even close to BioShock for me, but it's nice to be back in that world. They're the only games that manage to be actually atmospheric, while avoiding being unnerving.

Just putting the finishing touches on my platinum trophy for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time then I'll be hopping back over to Ni No Kuni
has just gotten Tengri but had to put the game on hold for Sly
.

Other than that, I continue my saga of trying to beat FTL, Katawa Shoujo
slowpoke.jpg
, and Far Cry 3
