what's all the hate for gamefaqs?

On a serious note, in a sense, what is this LUE thing I've seen references to?

"LUE is like a cancer. It cannot be destroyed, only contained" ~CJayC (GFAQs Creator)

On GameFAQs, you aren't allowed to talk about religion, politics or any other topics that people get all *****y about. So some people found a dead board and used it to discuss these things. CJayC one day just went "You guys think I don't know about this place? ;)" or something and thought since they were intelligent people, he'd make 'em a board. Or at least that's what I remember happening. Anyway, LUE was born as a serious board. Now...

http://wikifaqs.net/index.php?title=LUE

Yeah. Just read that for the gist of things. At this point in time, only around 17,000 accounts can actually access the place. Many of those accounts could be alts (I know my alt can access it so I'm already someone who has two LUE accounts).

Reactions to the Zelda TP Wii review sicken me.

BULLSHIT
It was the exact same on neogaf, I remember. Even the wiki hack, which I think someone at gaf did.

Except it wasn't broken down to multiple threads & instead all focused on one or two threads.

I posted on there a long time back, people there were always retarded. They're all fanboys of a high calibur, obsessive almost (you kinda have to be to write a FAQ). The low age requirement also keeps the intellegence level low. I don't see how GAF can be compared to GFAQs in anyway, here being stupid is ridiculed and a bannable offense, there it's the norm.

Still in terms of getting info on a game it's still one of the best, just stay the hell away from the forums.

I'm not quite certain what all the apparent distaste for GameFAQs is about. I've only had a forum account since around 2003, and I only started posting regularly sometime in 2004. I haven't spent an inordinate amount of time at the game boards - nor am I sure why one would - so that may have something to do with why I don't get that rage.

I like GameFAQs. Probably my favorite set of forums, particularly Board 8. It has many of the complaints people talk about, especially general complaints dealing with immaturity, but at the same time, I've seen intelligent debate as good as anything I've seen here.

It may have something to do with the fact that I've spent a good three years on that board, and I've met a lot of smart, interesting people around my age (20).

Maybe my experience is different because I was lucky enough to start with a board with a relatively older audience. Maybe it is that I like the ability to be completely immature at one moment, with spontaneous fads and feuding from two users, to user-run contests, and discussion topics. I'm not sure.

I do like GAF. It's the best place to go if you want sales, or if you are interested in getting the latest gaming news. But I've never felt too compelled to post. There are people that I've come to like, most especially AniHawk, cvxfreak, Lapsed, Amir0x, and sp0rsk, but I don't feel as though I have too much interest in seeking them out outside of this board, or speaking to them on AIM.

I really don't understand the elitism and derision I see here. I've seen nothing more intelligent here than I've seen on GameFAQs' better boards, and I've seen nothing lower on GameFAQs than I've seen here. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this.

And give me tips on How To Get The Most Out Of Your Stay At GAF.

NeoGAF users look down on GameFAQs users, GameFAQs users look down on people accessing the site through Gamespot... everyone wants to be better than someone else. That's pretty much it, I think... GameFAQs has more than enough good forums on its site to make up for the bad ones, to say the least.

yhalothar post of the topic.

Seriously. That's basically how I feel about this whole GFAQs/GAF thing. The friends I met on the Neopets Board where I spent my early days (I've been on GameFAQs since 2002 I think it was) are people I still talk to today. None of us play Neopets any long but we've gone through other games with each other and have our own private board we talk on. There are intelligent people on GameFAQs, they can just be hard to find considering the site is so large.

And yes, if you think GameFAQs was horrible based on the Zelda response, then I think you should look at this topic: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129580

System boards on GameFAQs is the perfect place for "System Wars"

I think they gave up modding those topics especially those stealth trolls there who make multiple accounts

NGG: Place where logic goes to die

NeoGAF: Place where logic wanders in, settles down into an easy chair, and promptly gets ambushed my ninjas who inject cancer cells into it's eyelid.

I remember NGG when it was still funny, when trolls actually tried. It's been going downhill for a while - the final straw was when the mods clamped down on what was going on.

Anyway, GameFAQS beats this place in terms of specific game discussion - some of the people there know the games they play inside out. NeoGAF is a lot better for general hilarity and idiocy, due to the size of the forum. And, of course, sales threads.

Seriously, I go to GameFAQs to read cvxfreak's FAQs. :)

And the game specific forums are good for info and game tips, especially for newly released games. You just have to wade through tons of shit to get there.

Gamefaqs is dying. Hell even LUE(there are not that many people posting in there anymore) has lost it's splendor due to GAF and SA. But maybe I've out grown the board. OMG GUYS IT IS MY OPINION YOU CANT ARGUZ!!!!!!!!!!

LUE existed to create LUELinks.

I only go to GameFAQs when I want games spoiled for me by people playing pirate copies.
Closed my account there around the time I joined GAF and haven't looked back... the quality and quantity of FAQs has degraded somewhat too, and since I can read Japanese much better these days, I just look for kouryaku sites instead.

I think GameFAQs would work much better as a heavily-moderated wiki nowadays. The game boards are retarded, and the system boards shouldn't even exist any more. Social boards? WTF.

nobody call the reviewer a n***er and hoped he died...

It's good when you stick to the FAQs, which are generally well written. Dig deeper and you're up for an unpleasant surprise.

go tho their Fighting game board, and all they do is talk about useless fan-fic and storylines

go to the Sonic PS3 game board, all they talk about is useless fan-fci and storylines.

god forbid common sense would ever fall on a gamer one day and realise that games are games and not comic books.

In terms of pure activity, and taking into account the purge rate, there are a few forums on GameFAQs that maintain a similar activity rate to this board.

And no one takes NGG seriously. Even people at GameFAQs realize that the board is a joke.

Not a great example since GAF reacted the same way. Well, I guess we did one huge thread instead of 40 small ones.

That one small difference is what seperates civilization from chaos.

I'd like to know as well.

Given her complexion and jug size she reminds me a bit of Bernadette Peters, but I don't think that's who it is.

This is true. I was using an FAQ from there for a relatively obscure game, and it was like 'buh, yeah, level up, and then beat the boss (no description as to HOW), oh, and back there, when you were doing that thing? You could have picked up an optional item that makes you invincible. Hope you didn't miss it because you can never return to that place again.'

Write a guide for that game, you'll probably find out lots of new things about it and may have a lot of fun in the process, or hate the game and never really want to play it again.

go go go

Interestingly enough, GameFAQs was Sonyland all the way until E3 2006.

Uhhh no, it was Sonyland till Halo 2 came out. After that the Xbox and Nintendo fanboys clearly dominated, except for the Square fanboys that is:lol .

I don't know. There are a lot of awful faqs on gamefaqs. It's funny because they list such strict requirements for faqs and then I've seen ones that are lists of the most ridiculous things. Not too mention the people that rush skeleton faqs up in order to be the first and then never bother fix them.

There are some excellent faq writers (many of whom are GAF posters) but there's a lot of rubbish out there.

Also why don't we know the story behind the sneezing woman gif yet.

If it weren't for the blind love of FFVII above anything else, the lack of moderation, non-centralized board structure, and rampant idiocy prevalent in the age group using the GameFAQs boards, it'd almost be a tolerable place to visit!

It certainly makes you appreciate GAF more.

Really moderation is the key. If there were no mods on GAF, or they didn't at least try to hold us to some standards of decency, I have no doubt GAF would turn into Gamefaqs in short order. It's just the nature of the internet.

Well I visited that abyss lately and I quickly ran across a topic somehow defending the Sonic series using Zelda and FF as examples of series on the decline (the Zelda series, because, Link doesn't talk).

Best 3 Sonic games.

1. S3&K
2. Sonic 2
3. Sonic Adventure / Sonic Adventure DX

1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic Rush
3. Sonic Adventure

S3&K
Sonic Rush
Sonic Adventure DX

1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Adventure 2 (I can't pick between the two)
2. Sonic 2
3. Sonic Riders

And so on and so forth.

How the HELL can you have a list of 3 of your favorite Sonic games and NOT have all three be the first 4-5 games (StH1-3, S&K, Sonic CD)?!

My guess: most of those posters are too young to have played those games.

Well we have all seen how Sonic and friends talking has helped the Sonic series so I think that guy has a solid point!
