What's hot on the PC gaming scene?

I've admittedly been out of the PC gaming scene for a good while, but I'm considering updating my graphics card. My system is pretty up to date except the graphics card. I'm just curious as to what the PC gaming scene has been like these days. One good thing is that I will at least be able to play games like Fallout and Oblivion how they were meant to be played (and not on PS3). I know there's Dragon Ages, but what else?

I'd say current games and around 6 months into the future.

I'll take suggestions for some of the more recent older games as well.

You haven't mentioned what you like, so here's some random stabs at good PC games.

Dawn of War 2
Demigod
World in Conflict
TrackMania United
COD4
Wallace and Gromit

Depends on how far back you go, but some of my favorite PC games of the past few years have been Team Fortress 2, Company of Heroes and Mass Effect.

I actually enjoy all genres except sports and rhythm sort of games. RTS, FPS, RPGs are all good for me. I might have to check out Mass Effect on the PC.

This is probably the best PC gaming has been ever. Really awesome releases (STALKER, Sins, Titan Quest, WoW, Company of Heroes, all Valve games, etc...) and super cheap hardware. It's only going to get better with the release of Starcraft 2 right around the corner (most people are speculating this Holiday).

There's nothing quite like a good PC game... The complexity some of them can offer far surpasses the majority of what is on consoles, which is why when I find a good one, I enjoy them so much. Caesar II was one of my favorite games

Demigod looks interesting. I'll have to take a deeper look into that.

You know, the usual.

Not sure what your last Total War was, but Empire Total War is good too.

Mirror's Edge is also so much better on PC than it was on consoles. Looks better and really plays better. Having a mouse instead of sticks for this game is a huge difference.

STALKER is a good example of a game that couldn't be the same on consoles. A little rough around the edges, but I'm having a great time with it so far.

Just because it needs to be quoted again, with img as well!

I've recently gone back to Battlefield 1942 and it's a trip and a half. Such simplicity and greatness.

Look at this:

I can recommend you:

Recent 'PC-exclusive' AAA games:
Company of Heroes
World in Conflict
Empire Total War
Dawn of War II
Titan Quest
Sacred 2
Guild Wars
Neverwinter Nights 2
The Witcher
Fallout 3 (better on PC + MODs)
Oblivion (better on PC + MODs)
Left 4 Dead (better on PC + MODs)
Team Fortress 2 (better on PC + MODs)
Sam & Max season one
Sam & Max season two
Runaway
Runaway 2
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernovyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky
GTR Evolution

Indie games:
Audiosurf
Braid
World of Goo
And Yet It Moves
ZENO CLASH
The Maw
Crayon Physics Deluxe

FREE GAMES:
Quake Live
Scary Girl
Battlefield Heroes
Stepmania
Ultrastar
Savage 2

In all seriousness, Mass Effect for PC is awesome. I've played through it like 3-4 times in a row since buying it, and normally I have to take a few months off to replay games in between beating them.

edit: I also recommend Audiosurf. it's the best music/rhythm game this generation that I've played. Easily destroys all of Harmonix/Activision's crap that sells for 10x Audiosurf's price because cheap plastic guitars are expensive to make. The best part of Audiosurf is you can play the same songs you can play in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, or you can play whatever the hell you feel like playing, because it isn't tied to some corporate head's licensing deal and focus group testing to determine a "one size fits none" set of songs, with additional music being shit you have to pay for.

Is that really as good as the other two? I only ask because it arrived in the mail today, but it will have to wait while I catch up on other things I think.

Demigod and Dawn of War 2 are both AMAZING fun.

Zenoclash is coming out really soon, which looks awesome for how cheap it is. I got it for $10.00 a while back.

If you like complexity then buy Europa Universalis 3 Complete. 100s upon 100s of hours of gameplay, and you simply will never get an experience like it on a console. Ever.

Paradox Interactive (EU3's developers) are set to release Hearts of Iron 3 this year as well, which should be a very tasty release for anyone who likes to use their brain whilst playing a strategy game.

Pick all of Paradoxes games direct from their brilliant consumer friendly DD platform; www.gamersgate.com

Oh and start working your way through this post:

Should keep you occupied for a few decades at least! :D :lol :lol

Oh, and be quick and pick up the tantalising Zeno Clash for $15 off Steam before it bumps upto full price on release:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/22200

Whilst we're on the subject of DD platforms make sure you check out all of these every weekend for some ridiculously awesome sales. I'm damn close to picking up an excellent sub £10 game every week because of them:

www.gog.com
www.steampowered.com
www.gamersgate.com
www.impulsedriven.com

The price of hardware and the super cheap DD deals has really made PC gaming cheaper than its ever been, in the long run you'll likely be spending much less than you would on a console experience so long as you buy smart.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU~

My wallet hates you. And you're one of my favorite posters. :lol

Man, I love PC games.

The best stuff released in the last few years? Most of it has been covered already.

Trackmania United Forever is one of the best arcade racers I've ever played. There are literally hundreds of awesome usermade tracks and cars and stuff. Great community. There's even an entirely free version of the game called Trackmania Nations Forever. Start with that, then grab the full version for all the extra stuff.

ORANGE BOX. GET IT NOW.

I'd say The Witcher is up there with the top of the WRPG pile, even if just to see how much better CDProjekt handles in-game decisions than just about everyone else.

Another RPGish kind of game is King's Bounty. I hadn't even heard of this one until a few weeks ago. It's *wonderful*. Very similar to Heroes of Might and Magic 2, but with a focus on a single character, rather than empire expansion. And the awesome, Warcraft 3-esque art doesn't hurt. Triple A stuff.

If you have any interest in MMOs, World of Warcraft is brilliant. I'm done with it now but it's up there with Blizzard's best.
Yeah, go with these. Definitely the best of the best. I almost never buy retail anymore.

Ha, thanks. Oh, and join the club, there's quite a few GAFers who's wallets are getting raped every week now due to the awesome DD sales held every weekend. At least you know you're getting a great deal on each individual game, haven knows when I'll get round to playing them all, though. :lol

Too many good deals on the PC platform right now to ignore it. Gives a royal two fingered salute to all those who barrage the platform for its supposed unreasonably high costs.

Its stuff likeTrackmania that really sell the PC platform imo. You just can't get that sort of value or experience anywhere else, its so uniquely PC yet at its heart its simply an awesome arcade racer which many are use to seeing on a console. The game just uses all of the strengths of the PC to make that experience just so much better. Heck, look at the graphics engine for instance, it'll run on very modest hardware whilst still looking decent, yet there's all manner of bells and whistles that can be added to make it look damn beautiful on a modern rig. 1080P + 60fps + 4xAA + high quality motion blur makes it a real sight to behold. Its not even worth going into the community aspect, suffice it to say its one of the best integrated in any game that you're ever likely to play.

-Orange Box
-Company of Heroes
-World of Warcraft (Maybe just a trial account)

Seriously. Try these.

I could recommend a lot more, but those are the "must haves".
