What's the best burger you ever had?

Pretty hard for me to nail it down to one, but if I had to choose it'd probably be from this place here called the Great Northern. They made hand pattied burgers and they were awesome as hell. I was devastated when they closed.

Pretty closer runners up: The Counter in LA and Jucy Lucy at Matt's Bar in Minneapolis. My favorite chain burger at a sit down place is the Four Cheese Bacon Burger at the Green Mill. Favorite fast food burger is at Burger Time which is local only. In-N-Out is probably the next best there.

I dunno, I live in Toronto

Always love me some Johnny's burgers :)

My most memorable experience though was when I took a double Johnny's banquet burger (topped with mayo, mustard, ketchup, diced onions and pickles) opened it up, and inserted an entire McChicken sandwich whole. DAMN that was quite the experience! :)

Oh and whenever you're in Livermore be sure to try John's Char Burgers. It was that burger that convinced me to try local burger joints wherever I go.

I'll have to check it out. Never had an Asian style burger.

First I've heard of this. Bookmarked on yelp and it is now something I must try!.

Keep in mind it's still a regular burger, but they've added Korean elements to give it an Asian twist, hence it being a fusion restaurant. In addition to adding an egg to it, they also add bulgogi beef and give you gochujang sauce on the side. It also comes with a crazy amount of steak fries, enough for at least two people.

They also don't open until 3, so if you go there, keep that in mind. They stay open hella late, though, all the way to 2 AM every day. Oh, and it's cash only up to $10, I think? If you exceed $10, then you can pay with credit card, if I recall correctly.

It's fucking 9 AM here and this thread made me starving and drooling all over the place, mainly because in Italy it's kind of impossible to find something like most of the pics I've seen here... :'(

But I have a question for you guys: how do you approach those extra tall burgers?
I remember my surprise when I got something like those in NYC, I was used to Mc/BK sized burgers so I was astounded and didn't know what to do with
my life anymore
it.
Do you cut them? Do you just try to bite them and then pick up all the dropped parts later?

Please answer me because I don't want to be unprepared again next time I'm in USA. Thanks!

There's a technique I've developed since I like my burgers stacked high. Wrap your entire hands around the burger to prevent toppings from slipping out (your hands are going to get very dirty but it's worth it). Approaching the burger from underneath, you need to push your bottom teeth into the burger, and once you've made it about an inch or two into it you should be able to fit the rest of the height into your mouth. It sounds confusing but I've always eaten burgers that way.

Also, never cut a really big burger. Everything will just fall out if you do that.

And yeah, it's 3 am here and I really want a burger. I might even dream about it when I finally go to bed.

Oh, I guess it's kinda similar to my own technique, especially the heavy greasing of both hands. :D
Just, I've never thought of starting from the bottom, so I just go with the mouth as open as possible hoping something good will come out of it!

The Detention Burger

Two applewood smoked bacon grill cheeses used as a bun for two signature beef patties, each topped with cheddar, "tipsy" onions, and all the fixings - all homemade

It sounds like it would be one of those gimmick burgers with no substance of flavor or tact, but damn it was anything but that. It wouldn't call it the best, but it's certainly the best I've ever had of "themed" burgers...or whatever stuff like this is called. And yes, the size was actually manageable and not a worthlessly big pile of shit.

Maybe you just don't know about those places? A quick google search reveals this: http://www.gillianslists.com/2013/05/five-favorite-places-hamburgers-in-rome.html. Apparently there's no TGI Friday's in Rome though.

Fergburger - Queenstown - New Zealand.

Best burgers on the planet....
The Codfather/Cockadoodle Oink were probably my favorite.
(I'm biased because I worked there, but still, amazing place, great food)

So is a place that only serves American cheese a deal breaker for anyone else? I've only had one really good burger with American, I usually ask for sharp cheddar.

In London the best place to go is Patty and Bun (near Bond Street station).

It's messy, but once you've taken a bite you won't care. The only thing that ticks me off is the queue due to the stupidly small restaurant (there's people outside from opening til close), I'd love them to open another in Soho so I don't have to walk so far back to the office after eating 2 burgers.

Honest Burger is pretty good too.

For me, the best burger I ever had was at Hopdoddy in Austin, TX. Their bison burger is incredible.

Runners up would be Elevation Burger and Five Guys.

I actually don't even like cheese on my burger. It always makes threads like these and most best burger lists really annoying since that's what everyone seems to focus on.

I really like American cheese myself, I prefer it actually, although speaking as a man who has never had blue cheese on a burger before (it's on my to-do list).

Homemade burger my girlfriend cooked me a while back...I don't remember what she put in it but that burger was fat and delicious and I wish she would make me more. Beats anything I ever had restaurant made.

It enhances the flavor I think. But you don't always need cheese for a good burger, it's all in the flavor of the meat.

You mention Fuddruckers than don't go any further

Not that I would post a chain burger in a thread like this, but please do not compare Fuddruckers to something like A&W. Fuddruckers butchers and grinds it's own meat (they even used to have a window into the back where they did the butchering, but I guess people got grossed out), and they bake their buns fresh everyday. They're a hell of a lot better than most other chains.

Yup. It was 100% wrong of me to include Fuddruckers. I think I've just always throught of them as a bro restaurant (this was even before the current bro meme was in use, 10+ years ago). There was one here in town for a few years but it closed down. The sad part is I will probably never try them since I would be more likely to go to a local place in a city I'm visiting, rather than a chain restaurant.

My apologies Fuddrucker lovers and even A&W lovers. Who am I to criticize anyones tastes in burgers? I dismissed them as trash without ever trying them and that just makes me look like a wannabe douchey elitist burger aficionado.

I had a doner burger from the chippy a week or so ago. which was absolutely divine. Just doner meat, chips, lettuce, cucumber, and hot chilli sauce on a sesame seed bun. Really hit the spot. I was pretty stoned. Doesn't really count as a burger but hey.

Man, my diet is fucking atrocious!

In New Orleans, it's the Company Burger, no contest. Has won a couple dozen local food awards since it opened about 2 years ago. Absolutely godlike (minus the pickles)

Best Burger I've ever had was one my wife and I made at home. Two Half pound burgers with jalapeno, garlic, onion, and worstcheshire sauce bound together with an egg.

Maybe it's one of those situations where because we made it ourselves we appreciated it more, but it really was amazing, didn't even need any condiments or lettuce, it was taste heaven

I haven't been to a Fuddruckers in forever, I don't even know if they're still around (there are certainly none near me). But they had amazing burgers when I was a kid. Greasy as fuck, but delicious.

They're still around. They fell on some pretty hard times in the last decade or so.

I'm the opposite. It's already a good burger to me if it's one I didn't have to make.

I'm partial to burgers where the patty isn't too thick, but not to thin. It's all about ratios to me. The bun has to be soft, no crunchy, and it can't be too big as well. A good burger can dance with balance to bun and burger.

What the fuck do you mean minus the pickles? Do you think he fucking won those awards without pickles?

Its time to re-evaluate your simple tastes.

;) lol

I had this kobe beef burger with lobster on it. It was delicious. It was also like $80. Glad I didn't have to pay for it.

I've tried fancy burgers but always found them very meh. For me the best burger I ever had was here at the community college. It was cheap as hell but thick and just had the most amazing flavor. Sadly they don't make them anymore. My 2nd favorite would have to be Braums. I know they're fastfood burgers but damn I could eat those day and night. Tied with those would be any of the hometown onion fried hamburgers or cheeseburgers. That's the one thing we're known for here and for good reason. There so good that everyone should have one at least once in their lives.

Give me any of those 3 well 2 since the college's isn't made anymore over any other burger any day of the week.

I'm starting to think my opinion on burgers is of little value to other people

My favorite burger is a cheeseburger with high quality American Cheese [I actually prefer American to cheddar, shocking I know] and then just ketchup, maybe maybe a little mayo

So all these burgers with the fancy toppings do little for me. All I would be interested in would be the barebones cheeseburger underneath most of these monstrosities so that probably makes my opinion either more or less valid because of it.

Also if it's thick enough to be cooked properly medium rare or maybe medium
