What's the best way to get drunk and actually enjoy it?

I have so many things in my mind right now and prefer not to talk it over. I don't drink. I never enjoyed the taste of beer and have never experienced being drunk. Any ideas on how to get drunk and enjoy it as well?

Sounds like you should refrain from drinking, I'm on my road to quitting drinking it's not an easy thing to put down once you start.

Don't get drunk. Get buzzed.

Pick a clear liquor (since you don't like beer) drink like gin and tonic and sip it. If you're not much a drinker, go slow and do something else too, like play a game, watch a movie, whatever.

drinking your sorrows away is only going to take you down the road of drinking more. Once you are drunk you feel good, because that is what it is made for, soon you will not want to stop drinking to feel that same good feeling.

best to just sit down and deal with it instead of trying to push it away with drinking.

Get drunk with friends. A beer or two would be fine, but generally if you drink alone you've got problems.

Grab some vodka/rum, mix with soda of choice, and drink it? Seems reasonable.

But generally drinking because you have problems probably isn't the best idea anyway. And saying you don't drink, have never been drunk, and wanting to get drunk alone for the sole purpose of forgetting your problems definitely isn't healthy.

It depends, if those problems of you are something on the short term, a week or whatever, have a drink so you can ease up a lil' bit. If your life is going down the toilet for X or Y reason, alcohol would be too easy an escape and BAM! you're alcoholic now.

Disagree. Some people may be prone to this, but I doubt it's a thing that affects even most people. If you're finding drinking is the only thing that makes you happy, that's a separate issue. Drinking because it's fun isn't some inherent evil.

People believe some weird shit about alcohol. So, having a beer at the end of a day is a sign of a problem, unless you pay more for it at a bar?

Somewhere between buzzed and tipsy is where you want to be at, which means at a certain point you need to stop drinking, which is hard when other people you're with are drinking and the ball is rolling and you think "why not".

Can you recommend a drink that can be enjoyed? I mean beer doesn't really taste good. I've tried gin once. I don't like it either. I was thinking of mixing it up with something but I'm not really good at it. Like I said, I don't really drink. I just want a temporary break from all the things I got in mind. I deal with them everyday.

Vodka Martinis. Tequila.

Though not really advised in the same night unless you want to wake up naked in a field with STEVE!? written across the top of your newly shaved head in sharpie.

What about a Moscow Mule?

You need a combo of getting drunk, whil not ingesting a lot of alcohol. Try mixing up vodka with red bull and pepsi/fanta, that quickly gets into your head. Or get Tsipouro, it's not in alchohol content, but gets you drunk incredibly quickly.

Taste is super subjective and can change depending on the liquor. For instance, some gin is very nasty. Tanqueray Ten is amazingly tasty. Beefeater is paint thinner. Vodka, the entire point is to have as little flavor as possible.

Nothing wrong with trying some of the popular drinks (Mojito, Long Island, Gin & Tonics, etc) to see if one appeals to you.

If he says he isn't good at mixing drinks, martinis probably aren't going to be a good suggestion. Also doesn't like beer/gin, not sure how he would handle tequila. I don't think of tequila as a drink you have because you enjoy it, either.

Hmm, great tequila is buttery and smooth. I can see it being enjoyable (not for me though!).

If you're feeling down/depressed about things, I would highly recommend not drinking alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant and thus, whilst the initial buzz might feel good, afterwards you'll just feel even worse.

I'm pretty sure i said something about a few beers being fine...ah well, I must be misremembering things.
Let me put it another way: If you ever drink to get drunk and you're alone, you have a problem.

I've only had tequila a handful of times and every single time it's been sour to some extent. Not quite my thing. But I could have very easily had some awful tequila. I don't think I know anyone that just drinks tequila, like you would scotch, brandy, wine, etc. So I guess I have it in my head that it wouldn't be an "enjoyable" drink, meaning something you actually sit and sip.

Thanks to all your suggestions. I'm doing a bit of research about this as well.

Yes, I do have problems and I deal with them everyday. It's not that I'm running away. I just need a break to take my mind off of them even for just an hour.

Yeah, it's not for me either. People generally don't sip vodka, gin or rum without mixers though.

Scotch...if you mix scotch, you're literally worse that Stalin.

You just have to know your limits. Emotional drunk is not a good area to be in. I can tell you that from personal experience. It's like balancing on a tight rope with a bed of spikes under you. You have get close to that point and stop, but it's hard.

Yeah you did, but your sentence is easy to misread. At first I also thought the 'couple of beers' part was connected to the first part of your statement:

Part A: Get drunk with friends, a couple of beers should be fine [should do the trick]......
Part B: drinking alone means you have a problem.

Upon re-reading it I understand what you meant.

Strong buzz>Drunk

A strong buzz will make you euphoric and relaxed without necessarily acting like a moron. My only problem with only getting a strong buzz is that I seem to always get really drowsy, whereas if I'm shitfaced I tend to have superhuman energy and strong preference to making new friends.

And then you think since you're able to keep from plunging in, you amp up the drinking and then wake up from a black out the next day.

Only drink when you're happy.

Never drink when you're depressed.

That's not what a depressant is. All it means is that it slows down brain activity, as opposed to a stimulant which promotes it.

That's it. Nothing to do with the mood.

For a newbie:

Mix rum and coke in a 1/4 ratio; drink.

Or buy something premade in a super sugary combo: mudslide, margarita, daiquiri.

Sounds like you should refrain from drinking, I'm on my road to quitting drinking it's not an easy thing to put down once you start.

What do you mean by "once you start"? Having a drink doesn't mean you're abusing alcohol.

On topic: Try a glass of wine with dinner or cheese. Very tasty and smooth, just don't rush it.

Drink with friends who can and will take care of you if need be. Don't drink alone just for the sake of it, unless you're just having a beer or something. But if you actually want to get drunk, be with people you trust. Have a few shots maybe. Chase them with some shitty beer. That should do the trick.

I'm basing my assumption on the information the OP posted. People can get drunk all the time and have a great time doing it but its usually because they have drank before and know personal limit. We are being told that the OP doesn't want to talk about it but rather drink the problem away. That is what will lead you down the wrong path.

I know having a drink is not abusing alochol but "once you start" as in the reason the OP gives it can become a band-aid for his/her problems. It has a way of getting on top of you (abuse) before you realize it. Not everyone gets that way though I know that.

Well, my two cents I would try vodka since you can make simple cocktails with it, blending with cranberry juice, red bull, orange juice etc.

For a guy who doesn't drink at all you could very easily end up feeling worse than you already might. Trust me when I say you do not want to deal with a bad hangover.

Did you even read what he wrote? "A beer or two would be fine." He's talking about drinking to get drunk alone, which I agree, is generally not enjoyable or healthy.

Alcohol will never taste good if you ask me (discounting mixed drinks which just take too long to drink).

The way I've found the easiest to get a decent buzz going is to drink vodka (or another similar alcohol if you don't like vodka for some reason) shots in a certain way.

Most people will take a shot and then chase it with juice or something, but I take things one step further. I pour a little bit of juice in my mouth before taking the shot, then with the juice still in my mouth take the shot and drink it all as quick as possible, then chase with more juice immediately after.

You pretty much don't taste the alcohol at all this way, even if it might be kind of lame.

Don't abuse and know your limits!
