What's the deepest mmorpg available?

Ok... besides Eve Online.

What's the deepest 'onfoot' mmorpg in terms of features(not content)?

Anarcy Online? Ultima Online? FFXI?

I would say UO. The ability to become fully immersed in a profession other than killing monsters really sets the game apart. You really could live the life of anything you wanted, and it was fully supported by the game.

I will agree with Ultima Online.

That game was way ahead of its time.

Besides the pve content (which was pretty good considering it was the first successful MMORPG), there was a very fun, although hard, pvp system, and the player economy was massive.

Nothing beats acquiring gold to purchase a house to store all your shit. I wish WoW could somehow have that.

I still kind of wished I had played UO more in its heyday. I was in boarding school at the time, and our net admins were bastards, so UO never ran on our dorm network. :(

I wish I coule've played UO, I wish I could do it even now, but a) it costs and I won't pay for playing games online and b) my computer is shit and couldn't run it anyway :(

Wait, your PC can't even run UO? Is your computer running on chewing gum and hope?

Isn't UO rather lenient in terms of system requirements, it's not a fully 3D game at all.

Extremely lenient. I'm not sure about 8th Age, but Samurai Empire and the original UO pack were sprite based. 8th Age might use the not so popular 3D engine.

Ultima Online. Other MMOs pick and choose features to support, UO has them all. The 3d engine is complete garbage btw. Play it in 2d or dont bother.

The first MMORPG I played was Asheron's Call, I did a trial of UO many months after quitting AC, but didn't really get into it - didn't have alot of time to devote to it however.

I did hear how awesome it was upon its initial release, but everyone always says the game is pretty crappy now - unless you log into one of those unofficial shards that is based on the older game model.

Chewing gum and hope... pretty much.

Ok, I just checked the recommended system requirements for the game and my computer is a bit over those requirements, so it should work. But still I don't want to pay for playing games online, so it's a no go.

EDIT: Ok, thanks for the tip. Ultima 7 (both parts) is one of my all time favorite PC games, so getting more of something like that would be great.

There are plenty of user run UO shards that are free of charge. Most have excellent communities too. I would recommend looking into that alternative.

Would it be worth playing EQ1? They released a "titanium" version of the game that contains all the expansions on DVD. I played EQ1 before only to quit two weeks later. Would it be worth giving it another shot? =)

I also played EQ2 for about two months. I've been thinking about playing again, but I'm not really sure if I will bother.

i honestly never really liked EQ. Everything about it, even the name, just screamed generic unimaginative fantasy to me. That really didn't help me get into the game.

http://www.uogamers.com/ - UO Gamers Hybrid (free shard) I believe its legal.. not 100% positive though.

One of my favorite MMORPGs ever, and the hybrid shard is a great mixture of the old game and the new. It's pretty popular too, and has great PVP including gladiatorial competitions.

I tried Everquest after UO and just couldn't get into it. Haven't played another MMORPG since then.
