What's the most genuine corporation?

The guys who said they charged 250 euros for the 3ds 'because we think people will pay extra', the guys who told core games they were no longer the target audience with the wii.

So a company that doesn't make you the target audience can't be genuine?

Southwest Airlines. Heavily unionized, cheap fares, good customer support. And still makes money.
In March 1992, shortly after Southwest started using the "Just Plane Smart" motto, Stevens Aviation, who had been using "Plane Smart" for their motto, threatened a trademark lawsuit.[62][63]

Instead of a lawsuit, the CEOs for both companies staged an arm wrestling match. Held at the now demolished Dallas Sportatorium (the famed wrestling facility) and set for two out of three rounds, the loser of each round was to pay $5,000 to the charity of their choice, with the winner gaining the use of the trademarked phrase. A promotional video was created showing the CEOs "training" for the bout (with CEO Herb Kelleher being helped up during a sit up where a cigarette and glass of whiskey (Wild Turkey 101) was waiting) and distributed among the employees and as a video press release along with the video of the match itself. Herb Kelleher lost the match for Southwest, with Stevens Aviation winning the rights to the phrase. Kurt Herwald, CEO of Stevens Aviation, immediately granted the use of "Just Plane Smart" to Southwest Airlines. The net result was both companies having use of the trademark, $15,000 going to charity and good publicity for both companies.[64]

how are we supposed to be sure about it? It's not like corporations don't have secrets and hidden shit

I like Netflix, I feel like I can trust them.
Netflix, Alienware and Amazon are the only 3 companies i trust right now.

They have never done me wrong and i have had nothing but exceptional support from them and nothing but pleasant experiences in terms of general service and purchasing. As far as being genuine, is any big corporation genuine? You will find horrible shit in every company if you dig deep enough.

To those saying Amazon, although they are great for the consumer they have been known to participate in dodgy practices. Amazon'sTax Avoidance in the UK and Amazon's poor working conditions and sustainability record.
I don't care about the tax avoiding.

Again, what giant company hasn't had or doesn't have poor working conditions? What company doesn't have skeletons in it's closet? I never said they were a morally good company. I like amazon because it's cheap, fast delivery and fantastic customer service. Besides, the poor working conditions doesn't stop everyone here from buying ipads, macbooks and iphones.

Do you consider analysing the data you've provided to them to be intrusive?

No because I'm not a:

- Pedophile
- Criminal
- Terrorist
- Political Activist
- Stuck up prude with a hidden secret nasty fetish that would destroy my life if it got out.

In fact the data Google collects about me has done nothing but benefit the services they offer me. My phone notifies me when theirs traffic on my way home. I receive adverts actually relevant to my interest. Google gives me more relevant and personalized search results.

In return stupid money grabbing companies have to give Google billions to get the remote chance I look at one of their stupid adverts. In return for this access Google offer me millions of world leading services.

About the worst thing Google has done is what is hasn't done well enough. Android is too fragmented. Google+ hasn't killed the real data mining asshole facebook yet. Google hasn't pushed ISP providers hard enough to provide good data streams for youtube, yes it's your ISP's throttling youtube causing your videos to buffer all the time, not google. Etc.

Of course all these services are free to use, so complaining about little niggles is just plain fucking selfish.

I'm sorry are you claiming that Amazon avoiding taxes, helping offer even cheaper products is a ... bad thing?

Yeah, that seems like kind of a silly thing to say. I think Nintendo is actually quite genuine, since they do tend to be quite true to what they say. They seem to have more real philosophies than their competitors and they do tend to stick to them. I don't think selling products at a loss (or being unwilling to have a large profit margin) is necessarily a sign of being "genuine"

It's difficult to say which companies are truly genuine, but I do like Google.

It's a testament to the strength of the IBM brand that people still consider it a genuine corporation. In terms of being the ultime capitalist company, they're genuine alright! IBM now is pretty much just a consulting company now were profit trumps quality. The emphasis is on share value rather than technology prowess or quality. See:
Not your father’s IBM
and the other articles Cringely wrote on them. Also read the comments, as they are usually from actual IBM employees and old timers.

I'd say Pixar is a company that seems genuinely focused on doing what they do best.

People are actually listing Amazon with their slave labor wages in warehouses? And no AC in some?

LMAO.

Real answer:

Costco

My logistics prof was talking about Amazon's shitty warehouse working conditions. Please don't list them.

IBM (When it was ran by engineers and you forgot they made the holocaust a reality)
Google (until a few years ago)
Costco

Amazon? Amazon do not pay taxes.

But that's ok as long as they allow you to get your monthly fix of gadgets and entertainment media at the lowest cost.
Why care about any kind of sustainability or such nebulous things as "the future"?

Oh and the people defending Google:
Google actually used Exploits to circumvent anti-tracking features of certain webbrowsers, so they could keep gathering more data on internet users. They fucking had someone hack a browser so their fucking adsense shit does not get the slightest interruption.

Working in a warehouse? No air conditioning? No fucking air conditioning? How horrible. Slave labour, even. Well, they get paid for that job and they signed a contract but let's still call it slave labour.

Give me a break. I used to work as a postman and in a fast-food and I would have killed to get a job at Amazon instead.

Well, at least in germany they didn't actually pay a sizeable amount of their workers. So maybe the term slave labour fits. ;)

Then I can only assume that at the end of the year at tax time, you added up all your amazon purchases and paid the required sales tax right?

ITT people confuse "giving you free stuff" with "genuine."

They're not doing it at the kindness of their hearts folks. They're still making money off you. If they weren't, they'd stop the free stuff.

But "genuine" is a poorly defined word in this context, no one knows exactly what it means. Good customer service? Not being ruthless monopolists? Making genuinely good products? Having progressive workplace and hiring practices?

I'd nominate Newman's Own, they donate all of their profits to charity. Beat that Amazon.

Montblanc
Merck and Co

And not a corporation but I feel like Guy Laliberte is probably the most genuine human eve/

Germany, bitch. No way around the sales tax here. Or at least Bezos hasn't figured one out yet. :p
I just noticed about half of the german-language Wikipedia article about Amazon deals with their shady corporate practices. Fuck me.
