Back when PAYDAY2 was still a thing, I was in a 3 man lobby that had a man join mid game. He asked as to type, as he was deaf and couldn't hear it when we used our mics. The two people who weren't hosting agreed, while the host stayed silent. Flash forward about 10 minutes to the end of the heist, where the host stopped and chatted "deaf people don't deserve rewards" before kicking the deaf heister so he didn't get any money or exp.

That one still gets me because it was outside of the normal, shitty things you hear while playing online. Or at least, I had never heard it before.

Yeah, I seek out the mute all option almost immediately if I play a multiplayer game. If there isn't one, I'll just go to the scoreboard or whatever and mute them manually, even if they've not said anything.

I feel too old for some of the stuff that gets spewed out, and I just don't care to hear knocking and whatever that is clanking in the background and heavy breathing...

Worst for me had to be hearing a kid - high schoolish age i would guess - get into a fucking TEAR with his mom. It went on for most of the match and ended with two people crying and gasping for air through sobs with a lot of "i hate yous" and such. Mom person dropped the bomb at the end with "You're going back to your dads." was rough. Like... we all were laughing at first and towards the end it was just mostly silent except for people saying "reminds me of when i was a kid.." kind of stuff. Just brutal.

I tried playing videogames online when the Dreamcast was out. It was just a constant flow of racist/sexist/homohobic remarks. I dreaded playing online.

The saddest one for me though was when Playstation Home was first released (on the PS2?). My then 12 year old niece made a female character named Brittany (her name) and we went into the mall area on PS Home.

Naturally, nearly every character there was a guy and they just kept constantly coming up to my niece and sending her messages asking her:

"Let's go to a private room?"

"Do u want to cyber?"

along with R and X rated questions along the same lines.

This completely turned me away from online gaming. Even now, I love the Division, but I refuse to go in the Dark Zone because of how things went in the past in online gaming.

not really the worst but the most memorable - playing Destiny, found a group with one of the web LFG sites for a nightfall, and we started running it. just general banter for a while, then one of the guys says he needs to AFK for 2 minutes to smoke weed. no biggie, nightfall is easy, we can keep clearing with just two.

he comes back and starts talking about how weed is the only thing that keeps him sane, he has PTSD from 3 Iraq tours and every night he sees the faces of kids and women he killed. The other two of us (strangers) are now dead silent and both thinking "wtf do I say". We hear a huge inhale on the mic and the guy says he feels a lot better and lets go kill that bitch ass boss.

We talked a few more minutes after that but it left me pretty shook at how different some people's lives are

As a somewhat new player, I tried my hand at playing my first ranked (think that term applies?) match in League of Legends with a buddy of mine. After digging through a somewhat slim list of parties all geared towards higher ranked players, we jumped into a room without a requirement, literally described as "All Players Welcome!" I was immediately booted by the host for being level 1. So, in this case, scraight-up lying is probably the worst thing.

We ended up just playing a whole different game. The incident served as the keystone in the shitty player-base that exists in LoL.
