What's up with all the FFXV hate?

I think our old friend Final Fantasy 15 is getting a lot of unnecessary hate guys. Yes Zelda and Persona are phenomenal. Yes the game has been in development for like a decade. Yeah yeah, I watched the same Xbox One demo reel you did. It was pretty bad. But it's actually here. Final Fantasy Versus XIII. FFXV. It's coming out in like 3 months. And not only that, but it's incredible.

the almost complete lack of deserved hype for FFXV after this E3 makes me sad. It really is an amazing game, that you might have to actually play to truly appreciate.

That demo certainly did them no favors - I'm actually worried about the game now.

This is literally the first time I am even remotely considering skipping a FF game.

I think people were just annoyed by the e3 demo and the vr crap.

I'm sure most people will be a lot more positive once we near its release.

I'm personally waiting for a 60fps version.

I think people have just seen enough of it to be hyped. I think the game looks great but I don't even care when they show it off anymore, I'm just ready to play it.

I wouldn't quite sum up my feelings as hate so much as apathy. As much as I try to care about the game again, like I did back when the rebranding trailer first debuted a few years ago, the more I see of XV, the less I care instead.

""Hate""

Oh whatever. My estimation of it remains that it'll be a good game (not a great one) with some very obvious flaws. We'll see how it goes. The marketing for it ranges from desperation to cluelessness.

the e3 demo was shit.

the 1 playable demo that everyone has access to (not the type 0 one) is trash and a horrible representation of the game.

OP, have you played the game yet? Outside of the betas/demos, I mean.

Also I really hate FF XIII.
Played it for about 2 hours yesterday at E3. There was literally no line to play. The hype is like really dead. :(

But the boss fight and battles they had on the show floor were really, really amazing. FFXVVR was also one of the best VR experiences I've ever had.

Because nothing shows until now inspires hype...

WoFF looks to be a better FF than XV for me... that is where my hype is.

I don't want to drop the bass on my chocobo. Honestly the trailer was awful.

Lastly it just feels late. Every time I see it, it feels somehow less impressive.

Plus long waits really wear on people.

The demo they released is terrible. Made me cancel my pre-order and wait for a sale. The latest E3 presentation cemented that decision.

SE's marketing department has done FF15 no favors.
The way they've presented the game has been tone-deaf and they just keep adding to the bloat of periphery content built around the game rather than giving FF15 the showcase it deserves.

People are still really bitter that Final Fantasy XIII didn't fit their personal definition of what Final Fantasy is. In some ways XV is a continuation of that. I also think that there have been some PR missteps in what to show off, releasing the Platinum Demo, and who to give the controller on the Microsoft stage.

I'm saying all that to agree that I think it's over the top. The truth is modern day Final Fantasy is up there with David Cage and DmC as the fun things to shit on. But I do cautiously have high hopes for the game and if they get the technical side of things together I think we could end up with a cool game despite its developmental hell.

The demos (yes, both!) have been incredibly boring and bad. The game doesn't have fun combat and the characters are lame. The bro theme is dumb.

Not feeling camping either.

I hate the hate it's getting too, but honestly their marketing hasn't been great so it's on them really. I know I'm getting it and I'm sure I'll get my fair share of enjoyment out of it, but I don't blame some people for passing on it.

Because everything they've shown have either been half-baked or with the "promise of improvements in the final game" tag on them.

Poor showing at both MS and Sony's E3 with that huge titan boss battle and the VR segment. And from what I've played of the demo, I also find the battle system to be rather clunky. Their E3 demo did nothing to alleviate my concerns.

I'm still going to get the game when it releases but my excitement for it is pretty tepid right now.

Not only was the E3 demo at Microsoft's press conference pretty bad, but the trailer at Sony's with the wub wub music really turned me off from the game as well.

When you combine that with their cringey Active Time Reports and noticeable problems with the demo it just makes for a lot of anti-hype. I just don't know about playing an entire 40-50 hour storyline with that battle system, the camping stuff sounds boring as does the concept of the road trip.

Also, all of the party members just do not look interesting at all. They might as well all be the same person with their latin-y names and same type design. I would bet we barely even see any of their backstory, given how little they've been talked about other than "the three other dudes with you".

OP, I think a lot of people you are describing don't want the game to be bad (including me), but they're being realistic with their expectations based on what we've seen from the game.

It looks like a mess and the demo I saw at the ms presser was frustrating to watch.

The latest FF I played was 13 and that was a nonstop parade of horrors.

I'll try 15 but I'm pretty fucking far from optimistic. In fact, I already hate the game. I just want to give it a chance to win me back because I feel like FF 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 & 12 are among the finest games conceived.

The combat has been my main concern since Duscae. The Platinum demo did very little to alleviate said concerns, and that godawful Xbox demo has made me even MORE concerned.
I really wanted to pick it up on day 1 but I don't know if I should anymore. If anything, I'll give it a rent.

The combat looked like hot garbage at E3 and it hasn't been particularly good in the demos either. That's my biggest complaint about the game so far.

For me, playing the first demo and realizing the combat felt just as bad as it looked, and then playing the second demo and realizing it was still bad killed any excitement I had for the game.

Hoping the story saves it but really not getting my hopes up.

I was really excited...then I played the demo which made the combat seem horrible. I was told it was better in the other demo and to not let that discourage me...then they showed more footage that made the combat look even worse. Now I'm just not sure what to think.

I'm thinking the bonding between the guys and the road trip element is going to be really nice even if the overarching plot is just Nomura's nonsense re-written by someone else.

The combat I fully expect to be another "good after 20 hours" situation, which, like FFXIII, is going to bother people in varying degrees.

Dunno I feel like people are too quick to label skepticism as hate.
But if 7 years of lackluster disappointing single player FF(the entire XIII series) isn't enough to earn skepticism then I don't know.

Guess I just have to blindly buy again day 1 shutting up of my worries because it's an entire different team yada yada yada /s

At least in NeoGAF, majority of naysayers react logically to its bad promotions in big stage(poor demo, dubstep trailers and screenshots) and just don't notice some good aspects revealed in some small streamings, while there are a few people who actively hope the game will fail sadly.

I'll reserve judgement for when it's actually released.

I think a lot of what you perceive as "hate" is just people getting very nervous about what they're seeing not living up to their various expectations. But since none of us have played the finished product yet, it's impossible to judge the product and claim to love or hate it. I'm so curious what reviewers will think of it come September and I personally can't wait to try it out, since I haven't gotten to try out the demo for myself.

It has the least interesting cast of characters of any mainline game i've seen and the idea of a bunch of dudes on a road trip as a major premise sounds terribly boring.

There has been some exciting gameplay shown in various trailers and demo's, but the overall marketing has been confusing and it has had some terrible showings here and there. Not to mention many concerns about technical issues still prevalent.

I still have hope it will be good. I pre-ordered it and won't back out for anything, but still concerned about it and the future of the franchise.

FFXV GAF HYPE CREW is still here. Relax. I'm just not posting in many FFXV threads due to spoilers. The hype is still real for the game. Trust me.
