What's up with all the FFXV hate?

Yeah, I feel FF7 remake's combat just utterly makes that of FF15's obsolete as it would be way better, no button holding for starters, and it also had character switching. It's like the main selling point of a console FF with action combat for XV can already be found in 7 remake done in superior ways.

The only other thing is the open world, which apart from the towns are just big empty spaces over and over. I have little hope for the dungeons.

We know nothing about FF7 R's combat in how it controls. Only what it may actually look like outside a brief teaser trailer, It's a rather bold claim and premature to say it's going to be better than FFXV's when there hasn't been any actual hands on experience or even a playable build of the game.

I personally wouldn't make any guarantees of FF7R combat quality on an assumption for sure.

Only sad thing is that I really enjoyed Duscae's combat because I got used to it and mastered it. Platinum Demo's combat takes more time to master but I'll get the hang of it in FFXV.

Had the same experience but the aerial game in Platinum is so much better it's hard for me to go back now.

Duscae was shit, Platinum demo was shit, the E3 presentations and trailers have been shit. Graphically it's not impressive compared to the rest of the AAA games shown off this year. The game is coming out in a few months and the framerate and clipping issues are still looking as bad as a year ago. Marketing is a nightmare and the ATRs are doing more harm than good. The Brotherhood anime got a new episode... and it's Naruto filler tier garbage.

So much emphasis put on the characters and their friendship, and yet... it's 4 of the most generic anime tropes to ever exist. Look you guys, it's Ignis, the loyal servant from the ancient line of SCIENTIA (cuz they're smart, yall). Also he has a British accent for no reason other than to fit into that tired servant house trope.

The VR trailer, the Afrojack music trailer, the atrocious stage demo. It's all so corny. I went into E3 slightly excited to see FF15, and I came out of it completely bored. Everything about this game is a nightmare and I can't believe they've turned it into this mess.
W-H-E-W

I'd say it's a combination of an aging fan base (out of the realm of enjoying the main cast's character designs), nostalgia, comparison against other games of its type (such as TW3), astronomical expectations from 10 years of waiting, dislike of ARPGs, fast-paced ARPG fans (Tales, KH), bias towards Western fantasy tropes, pre-existing dislike/distrust of the game's developer, and general dislike of the game's premise.

I don't believe XV will be a game that 'brings back' classic FF fans, but I also don't believe these things are necessarily exclusive to FF. Assassin's Creed, Battlefield et al have their share of former fans who dislike the direction those franchises have taken. It's why branding a game 'Final Fantasy' in this day and age comes with a mountain of baggage.

I would totally try to attempt to master aerial combat in Platinum Demo if we could skip straight to Adult Noctis' portion of the demo. ;_; Its actually thanks to NoctisVsStar that I even realized we could fight like that.

This is a reasonable assessment.

This is true, but it's just makes me nervous about FF7R as well, there going to have characters switching in their more action focused system, over 7 damn characters!? Makes me worried for how they will all play like, and if there all going to shallow to play as.

Even since we knew about the party, I was hoping for more variety. Final Fantasy always had diverse casts with characters of different gender, races, ages and even species. Everyone in FFXV is just so samey, not only because they are all light skinned, young man but the trailers, brotherhood, etc doesn't make the characters shine, just look at Persona 5 and how all the characters have different interests, talents, weakness and backgrounds. Oh, and telling a story from the perspective of a cast where everyone is privilegied instead of normal people/commoners is a very bad idea.

I loooooved the Duscae demo v2. I loved the combat, graphics, enemies, everything.

everything else after that didn't feel right. I don't like the new combat, or the bad graphics sadly.

I have it pre ordered and still have hope... but I'm also very worried.

I agree they're visually not all that distinct and it's a shame. But Prompto is a commoner (and lots of stories are about royalty, don't see why that's inherently bad).

I think our old friend Final Fantasy 15 is getting a lot of unnecessary hate guys. Yes Zelda and Persona are phenomenal. Yes the game has been in development for like a decade. Yeah yeah, I watched the same Xbox One demo reel you did. It was pretty bad. But it's actually here. Final Fantasy Versus XIII. FFXV. It's coming out in like 3 months. And not only that, but it's incredible.

the almost complete lack of deserved hype for FFXV after this E3 makes me sad. It really is an amazing game, that you might have to actually play to truly appreciate.

All those that hate, will be FIRST in line grabbing this game with a big ass smile, please believe that ;)

I actually liked the second episode of Brotherhood because of Prompto but we don't know what he is good at or what his personal deal with the villains is, think how in FF7 everyone has a personal reason to be againt Shinra.

The empire trashes their home city - that alone would seem to provide plenty of motivation. And probably kills Noctis' dad too...

As for how prompto can hang with the others in battle, that's a good question. Guess all that cardio helps.

Really late in commenting on this, but...
I'm glad SE is being vague with Luna and Gentiana. It's much more appreciated than spoilery stuff....
Given how vague they were with Jihl in XIII before that came out, I'm not inclined to believe that's a good thing.

I don't think I would have wanted to play as a boy band at any age. Even when FF8 came out and I was the same age as Squall, I didn't like him and was annoyed by him. This looks like a group of Squalls.

Then add to my list above -> Dislike of the cast's character designs

yep. for me, the 'bro' stuff's bad enough. that they're all, as veronica mars'd say, '09ers'? very hard to care even a little bit :) ...

I didn't like any demo of the game I've played. Game looks beautiful but also looks subpar in some areas. Frame rates are terrible. Characters and story have changed so much during development that it gives the impression that it will disappoint, and that *plot leak* isn't helping. The main cast is limited both in diversity and quantity and I can only control one character, on top of that the combat seems really cheesy and not well thought out. If I'm misinterpreting the way combat works I still didn't like it altogether based on the Platinum demo.

I dunno. FFXV could be great, but I'm just not feeling it. Don't care if I'm proven wrong or whatever.

FFXV gone open world is a bad decision. Combat looks horrible as well. As is the cast. Not to mention we've waited 10 years and yep, gonna be lots of disappointed fans.

This was also a side game, originally. It wasn't supposed to be the next big mainline Final Fantasy, so I could see how it might upset those who were looking forward to the next singleplayer game and weren't at all interested in Versus XIII.

I'm also in the same boat as those who weren't impressed with the demos. I personally thought the second demo was really boring and deleted it as soon as I was done.

I'm just hoping the game just doesn't demo well and things will be better in the full game. But as it stands, at least from my view, it doesn't look like it's going to be a return to form for Final Fantasy.

For the ARPG combat haters, what do you think of Wait mode presented later at E3 as a second way to play the game ?

I'm perfectly Ok with it being an ARPG but I'm not sure that wait mode makes a difference for those that don't like it. It looks poorly conceived and a tiny bandage over a gaping wound. It seems as bad an attempt as something like the tactical mode in DA:I.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to it. An action style FF, that's my dream. So hopefully it does turn out to be a really solid game.

Right now though, my biggest concern is the performance. Neither of the demos performed well, and I'm really hoping they can get a solid 30FPS for launch.

Completely agreed
still have the game preordered

That solid 30 FPS looks like it will happen by the looks of what DF showed us. Resolution on the other hand is still a wait and see.

Based on the Duscae 2.0 demo and what I've seen since, I'm excited as hell about the game.

The Xbox demo did seem pretty clunky, of course, but I expect such moments to be rare compared to the smaller battles and general exploration.

Game looks unappealing. Yes looks graphically/techincally pretty. I wouldnt expect any less From sqex. Demo where you play as a kid turned me off as well.

10 or whatever years ago i made a thread asking if anyone else was uninterested in this game and i think i got banned or the thread locked immediately.

I dunno . I hope they make a good game for Final Fantasys sake.

Reading this thread versus the FFXV uncovering thread is funny. I don't understand the "hate". Is because the "game has change a lot"? Since the when? The uncovering? Really? I don't think so. EVERYTHING that was shown and praised in the uncovering is being slam right now. I think people just didn't like the VR gimmick and know are crazy. Get your shit together people slam the game when it's out and you have played the real thing.

And stop with the hyperbole of "nobody was at the E3 demo, the hype is dead"

I didn't dislike Type-0. I feel like this game's combat doesn't seem as good as it was in that game.

Type-0's (hell, even Ol' Crisis Core's) combat feels incredibly responsive in comparison to the time I've spent with FFXV over the various demos. Overly long animations never got in the way of the combat, either. It's a bit frustrating, as I really want FFXV to be good.

I'm not hyped for it precisely because it doesn't feel like we're getting Versus XIII. In my mind that was to be a wholly directed Nomura project start to finish. Good or bad, I wanted him to see it through to the end.

It's passed through so many directors, producers, scenario writers and whoever else's hands over the last decade, that the title change to XV was appropriate as it feels like a different thing now.

Right or wrong, fair or unfair, this is a Tabata joint in my eyes. I expect nothing.

What makes you believe this? Just curious.

I also would like to know the answer to this. Because right now it seems like the majority of haters haven't even really dived in to all of the new content SE has posted. Wouldn't surprise me if they haven't even seen the Wait combat video.
And stop with the hyperbole of "nobody was at the E3 demo, the hype is dead"
I mean, there was no line at the E3 demo... And this is the first time the game was even on the floor, so it is a little bit concerning.

I said it in that other gameplay thread, I'll say it here too:

This has to be one of the most stylistically inconsistent games I've ever seen.

Pretty much every new trailer, screenshot, demo, etc. looks like it's from a different game.

The whole thing looks like a hodgepodge, like they came up with a clusterfuck of different ideas for the game and just threw them all in.

Still got it - warp mastery makes such a huge difference. Not just for escape to lampposts, primary functionality is actually maneuvering safely around enemies and dodging while keeping up the physical onslaught.

Lamp posts can be destroyed if you stay camping, i use it to avoid damage since you're invincible during that small window.

Yeah, one of my favorite Platinum moments first time I fought respawned giant, before finding shield an shuriken. Taking a lot of hits, warped to lamppost for a breather and... Nope, I'm on the ground in the rubble.

It looks pretty damn bad I think. Any hope I had for it has almost entirely disappeared after this E3. Almost. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I really don't think I like where it's headed.

Square's games have seemingly lost that special thing that made them so worth it to invest your time into. I honestly feel they haven't been the same since Sakaguchi left. Yea, they've had some great games, even hits, here and there, but I've personally felt they've been on a downward spiral for quite some time. It just seems like everyone else is finally catching up to this fact. And, believe it or not, I honestly feel the downward spiral began with the success of Final Fantasy XII. I never liked that game, and to this day am amazed that other people did. I never felt that was actually a Final Fantasy game at all. It effectively changed what Final Fantasy was, and was greeted with immense success, and ever since then I feel like Square no longer makes the kind of Final Fantasy games that older fans like myself enjoy or appreciate.

I knew FFXII meeting with so much success would end up setting a very bad precedent for the games going forward.

Since it was announced that Nomura isn't on the project, they suck at showing or talking about the game. Only really one good trailer from them since (the first they showed), bad screenshots, bad communication, an alright demo that was hammered by poor performance, etc. This could be an amazing game but SE hasn't done a well job of communicating and showing that.

For XVI they should learn from this and show the game in its best state when they're ready. Not announcing it ten years too early should help keep expectations in check.

Yeah, it's a strange implementation. And the music stops when you activate it. seems like it's sort of at odds with how they intend the pace of battles.

Warp points should make for interesting battle tactics, I hope people see what they bring to the table. But for many there's just there for warp strike multipliers and MP regen.

So much hyperbole in video game hate in general. There are some things where I agree with from time to time, but the overwhelming negativity about this game is just completely polar opposite from what I feel.

Sorry gaf, I love ya, but you are too much sometimes.

Um what? Your opinion on their marketing is fine, but since Tabata took over there's been a steady stream of information and media on the game compared to when Nomura was on board. Probably because the game didn't actually exist much (there was that awesome E3 trailer though, still the best FF15 trailer so far) until Tabata took over.

That is how the entire FFXV feel to me, and Platinum Demo was horrible
