What's with all the ubiquitous "nice guy" hate?

People, it's all about behavior manipulation.

The "door-mat nice guy" is giving out too much reinforcement. What happens when one receives too much reinforcement? They become satiated.

The classic "jerk" will usually use a variable ratio schedule, most likely without realizing it. What does this mean? He will RANDOMLY reinforce the girl. Thus, she will not expect it coming, and is less likely to get satiated. Once he sees this gets results, he himself will be reinforced by the outcome, and continue to use the VR schedule.

Now, if you understand the reinforcement contingencies, you can get people to do mostly what you want.

I've successfully gotten my gf to go to the gym 5 days a week since January using a VR schedule.

Reflecting things on myself now and I think I'm pretty mean to girls. I always 'choose' a girl to like me (by showing interest, appealing to their personality etc), look how she reacts on things only to never give her any attention after that. I like to see how 'they' behave in certain situations but don't like the idea of dating at all (atleast in this part of my life). Am I really evil (lol) or is this common?

What if you're an absolute bore to be around? How do you fix that?

Experience. Travel, pick up an exciting hobby, be around people, join some clubs, groups, whatever.

While there is some truth to this, people aren't just built around behaviorist principles, and no two people will react the same way. To give you an example themed around what you're talking about, some people can handle gambling just fine, but others get sucked in and have their lives ruined by it.

You make a good point. Gambling is one of the best examples of a VR schedule, but you're right, not everyone gets addicted. Other things can be more reinforcing and overshadow gambling. That's why you have to go in by a case by case mentality when using these techniques.

That "what a nice guy" comic is the best I've seen. Everybody has known a guy like that who feels he is entitled to a good-looking girl. Shit, man... I lived in Japan. I knew a guy who was the KING of the forever alone. In fact, all of us as men can relate in some capacity to the forever alone in the comic.

It's pretty inspiring. Eye opening stuff. I took a vow to be a positive, honest, and all-around sincere person from now on a few months ago, and it has made me a lot happier, if only by changing my perspective on things.

It's every man's right to think that their wife is beautiful. Same as every woman's right to think the same back. Same as every mother's right to think their child is an angel. Same as every fat person's right to think a BigMac is the Mona Lisa of sandwiches.

Not everyone has to agree to make them feel better about it.

Yeah... I wasn't commenting on his right to have that opinion, I was trying to imply that it was tasteless. I'm aware that people can be dicks.
