What's your favorite E3 Press Conference?

Konami 2010

This was my favorite part of that press conference and I have no idea why. I just start laughing hysterically whenever I watch it.

Sony 2009 & 2013

Ubisoft's 2012 conference was pretty good aswell.

sony 2006. i remember sitting there, watching it, expecting to be blown away. instead it was just crap being heaped upon more crap. like heavy rain, it wasn't good in any way, but it was very entertaining regardless.

Konami 2010 - for the lulz
Microsoft 2013 - shitload of game announcments and Killer Instinct comeback, i cried lol
Sony 2009 - because Last Guardian and best Uncharted trailer

Which e3 was the one where Jack Tretton ripped on Kaz Hirai for "RIIIIIDGE RACER!"? I am rather fond of that bit. Same sentiment with Reggie acknowledging "My body is ready" for the first time.

haha, I was actually there back in '03 when they had a booth made to look like some lab contraption show casing the demo inside, and I was one of the last couple guys who was there waiting to go in. then came these 2 guys in suit trying to get in too and was told that's the last one showing of the day (or maybe for that E3 since I think it was the last day). 1 of the 2 suits actually start asking everyone waiting in line if they're willing to give up their spot for $50 or $100, I don't even remember if anyone did give up their spot and the reason is because I kept mine and watched the demo first hand and got blown away by it, hard. still have the T-shirt they gave out afterward and wear it from time to time too! ah the good old days~
That's pretty funny.

What shirt was it? HL2 logo?

Konami 2010 was a once in a lifetime experience. Nothing like it will probably ever happen again.

Nintendo 2010 was pretty amazing. The 3DS and DKCR reveal was pretty great.

If I had to choose one, though? Sony 2013. Great price point, long awaited game announcements, no DRM (and the subsequent cheering), and just the overall hype... it's everything I've loved about E3 all encapsulated into one great conference. If someone asked me to give an example of what E3 is all about, this is where I'd point.

This one. When Reggie has shit to announce, we all win.

Nintendo E3 2010 was amazing. Shame about interference in the SS demo, wouldve been much better if that hadnt happened
Nintendo 2004 was epic too. TP reveal, DS, bunch of games announced, (MP2, SFA, RE4, etc.)
Nintendo 2006 should be the bluprint on how to announce and hype your console
Sony 2013 had the no DRM and $399 mike drop

Can someone fill me in on Sony 2009 and Konami 2010?

EDIT: Ooooh, THAT Konami conference, that should be added up there too

But I cant decide, did Nintendo 2006 Miyamoto conducted orchestra or Nintendo 2011 Zelda Orchestra is the best opening though

Konami's 2010 conference had me pissing myself with laughter so that.

E3 needs more wrestlers on stage.

Sony and EA at E3 2013 were pretty great. I was caught off-guard by the end of EA's with the sudden Battlefront and Mirror's Edge 2 teasers.

I think I'm gonna go with Sony 2013.

Just listen to that crowd go nuts after the DRM policy reveal, or the pricing. They nailed it.

Nintendo 2011, because of this stage:

- especially how they used it to demo Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, 3D Land and Star Fox

WATCH IT (if you don't remember it)

My favourite ones were before the days of the internet when you had to buy a games magazine for the E3 special coverage. I don't have a particular favourite but reading through those mags as a kid to get the latest gaming scoop was incredible. It's too easy these days!

I actually think Zelda 04 could be matched in reaction.

Well, maybe.
Maybe not this E3, because people are hungry and waiting, and expecting Zelda.

But still, if a Zelda was shown, with a great artstyle, and it showed you playing as Zelda or Ganondorf with VA or something else completely unexpected, I really think the reaction could rival 2004 TP imo.

-Nintendo E3 2004: Twilight Princess, DS reveal, Metroid Prime Hunters out of nowhere, Reggie takes the stage for the first time.

-Nintendo E3 2006: The whole Wii presentation, Miymaoto's start, Super Mario Galaxy out of nowhere, Wii Sports, etc.

-Nintendo E3 2010: Skyward Sword, Kirby, Goldeneye (wasn't so much excited about that), DKC Returns Retro (although leaked), 3DS, the mini trailers Nintendo made, the promised 3DS third party games, Kid Icarus

-Nintendo 05 was ok for the reveal of the Revolution and the Game Boy Micro, with additional footage of announced games.

-Sony 2013 was great due to the buildup. Plus FF15 (although multiplatform), The DRM related issues, the console reveal, the console price, The Order 1886, Mad Max

-Konami 2010 just for the sheer laughs.

-Ubisoft had a good 2012 although that was more due to the fact that the main 3 had underwhelming conferences.

So GAF what E3 conference do have the most reverence for?

For me it's Nintendo's 2006 E3 conference. It starts off with an epic orchestrated performance of Wii Music conducted by Miyamoto. Then Reggie takes the stage shares a few words then an amazing montage of upcoming Wii games plays. This trailer shows off all the ways the Wii remote can be used to enhance and innovate gameplay. The first glimpse of the next 3D Mario game. A new Metroid Prime game. WarioWare. And at the end, we get to see for the first time Twilight Princess running on Wii, eliciting applause from the crowd. After that Reggie returns to the stage, speaks briefly and then another great montage of games including a new Fire Emblem game and a new IP, Disaster: Day of Crisis. Then Bill Trinen takes the stage and gives us the first live demo of Twilight Princess, although disappointingly it wasn't played with motion controls for the sword, but with a button. Later on a demo of Red Steel, showing off the IR aiming functionality of the Wiimote and the motion sensing for the swordplay. Towards the end of the conference, there is a Wii Sports demo with Reggie, a contest winner, Miyamoto and Mr. Iwata himself showing off the ease of use and intuitiveness of the controller. Reggie takes the stage once more and to close out the show and leave us an hot anticipation for the fall for the next leap forward in gaming.

Agree with you, OP. Nintendo E3 2006 was amazing. How can you not root for the Wii after seeing that sizzle reel. Makes me wish Nintendo brings the magic back.

I always thought this comic was kind of dumb because Sony had a fine conference in 2010. This seems to ignore that just to continue PS3 has no gaems joke, which was pretty much a dying meme at that point.

Nintendo 2006. That intro on the kodak theater was unreal, they took advantage of being the disney of videogames and feel like a theme park presentation, even the tickets to enter the conference were theme with varios nintendo lands depending on where yo were seated. The only failure of that show is having the brawl presentation behind close doors the next day instead of in the actual conference. If done during the conference with the snake reveal the whole theater would have exploded, missed opportunity there.

Nintendo E3 2004 (DS reveal, RE4 and Twilight Princess reveal.)
Nintendo E3 2006 (Wii blow up, just insane hype.)
Nintendo E3 2010 (3DS reveal, Kid Icarus reveal, Retro DK, Skyward Sword reveal.)
Sony E3 2013 (PS4, FFXV, KH3)
Ubisoft E3 2012 (Watch_Dogs)

I don't think I was ever blown away by a Microsoft conference, weird...

You can't beat Nintendo's 2004 E3 conference. It had everything!

Konami 2010 (this shit was a masterpiece)

Nintendo 2010 because of Skyward Sword and DKC:R

Nintendo 2006 the Wii reveal was just too good

Wonder what the best year overall was though?
I'd probably say 2006. Nintendo's was of course great. Microsoft's was pretty great as well. Gears of War, Halo 3 and Peter Moore rolled up his sleeve to reveal the GTA IV release date. And even Sony, despite it's faults had an entertaining E3.
