What's your favorite Final Fantasy soundtrack?

my favorite FF OSTs are VII and X. Both are beautiful and perfectly recap the atmosphere of the games. I have to admit I like the remastered OST of X more than the original one.

And I love the tracks I heard from FFXV so far.. so beautiful.

I was stuck between FFIX and FFXIII, but thanks for reminding me that this existed.

Makes me wish there was a HD release of the original Crystal Chronicles just so I could hear it again without having to dig up my Gamecube.

It's really hard to choose just one, but I guess I'll go with FFX.

Otherworld
Suteki Da Ne
To Zanarkand
Hymn of the Fayth
Mi'hen Highroad
Brass De Chocobo
Besaid Island

I could go on, and on, and on.

Words can't describe how I feel and what my memories are when I listen to this:

I haven't played any of the Final Fantasy games after version 10, but I still feel Terra's Theme from Final Fantasy 6 is still the best of the whole series.

Judging it on the fact that one didn't even need to play the game to experience this wonderful piece played during the Intro scene, that itself blew me away as I prepared myself to dive into the game.

The themesong/introsong from FF7 is my favorite. Makes me nostalgic. I guess others might be better musicwise but this one gives me the most feels.

XII soundtrack is my second favorite, I especially loved ur linked "Boss Battle Theme" and "Empire Theme"
my favorite has to be IX, just to many perfect themes fitting in those environments (Dali, Treno, Lindblum,....)

XII's soundtrack were like if Beatles suddenly did a brilliant orchestral album. Doesn't mean their fanbase is going to like it immediately.

Which I find a little odd because if anything XII is an improvement/extension of FFT's soundtrack in every conceivable manner and THAT one was so much more well received.

Probably 8 on the whole, but everything from 4 to 10 has too much good stuff. I don't think a single one of those is lacking at least one track I really love (though I can't immediately think of examples from FF9 but it's gone the longest without a replay I believe).

Being an MMO a lot of people may have skipped it or didn't give it much thought, but as a player of every FF game (except XIV) since the first one came out, I can easily say FFXI has the best soundtrack. I have not played XIV yet but I hear that one is very good as well.

Terra's Theme from VI is the overall best FF track though.

VIII. I liked it so much I bought the 5 disc soundtrack. So many great tracks and perfect for the game. It's also the only FF OST where I can name my favorite tracks without looking up the titles. Balamb Garden, Force your Way, Man with the Machine Gun, Blue Fields, Compression of Time, The Legendary Beast, Maybe I'm a Lion, The Extreme and even the cheesy Eyes on Me.

FF6 is one of those rare games where virtually every piece is rock solid, a feat the series never achieved before or repeated since.

Final Fantasy 8, 11, and 13-2 are my current favorites, but it changes with the seasons! It's hard to show somebody who hasn't played 11 what's so great about it's soundtrack, but I've never played an MMORPG with so many amazing area songs. Gustaberg is still the king for me, after all of these years of playing.

For me its a no brainier, FFX takes the cake. There's something really, ethereal about a lot of the songs. Extremely dream like and foreboding. A lot of it is also rustic sounding, but Spira's own sorta rustic. Runner up would be Final Fantasy 7, for the victory fanfare alone. Final Fantasy XII has one of the weakest soundtracks in the entire series. A few of my favorites from FFX:

Tidus's theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hrpWgKVYS4&list=PL8DBF93E1D0FCAED5&index=4

Auron's theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQWcvol93Bg&list=PL8DBF93E1D0FCAED5&index=38

OTHER WORLD!

OTHER WORLD!

Probably the most 90's song ever created, if someone wanted a song that was the 90's distilled, you'd give them this song. I still get goosebumps when Zanarkand gets annihilated at the beginning. FFX's intro is strong it almost hurts.

The visual style and song in the This is your story cutscene fits so damn well.

VII's tracks were stellar in moulding unforgettable atmospheres. Cosmo Canyon, The Great Warrior (Red XIII's father's theme), The Forgotten Capital, Aerith's theme... I don't think any other Final Fantasy's soundtrack has grabbed me like VII's has.

VII
VI
IV
V
IX

After that, VIII, XII, X, III. Great music all around.

I can't believe only 1 person has mentioned FFIII. For me it has some of the most memorable tunes.

Some of my favourites are:
The Last Battle
Let Me Know The Truth
My Home Town
Vegies of Geasal
Cute Little Tozas
Jinn The Fire
Eria, The Maiden of Water

The Last Battle (Black Mages vers.)

These are from the NES version but when I played through the DS remake I was reminded how awesome this soundtrack is.

It's probably VII even though it sounds like bad MIDI these days. It just fits the game so well and amplifies the mood. The music almost makes the game work by itself.

Final Fantasy has been incredibly consistent when it comes to music, even most of the spin-off games have great soundtracks.

With that being said, I think that most of my favorite tracks come from VI.

Terra's theme, Celes' theme, Dark World, The Decisive Battle, Coin Song and Mystic Forest are among my favorite in the series.

I've only played 6,7 and 10. Out of those I put 7 first followed closely by 6 with 10 a fair way back from both of them.
