What's your favorite scene in a game?

There are so many standout moments from this generation and before that on PS2 standout for me. Honestly, these games containing some of these moments are truly remarkable and because of them, these games are more or less some of my favourite games.

For example.

The Last Of Us:

+ That opening
+
The final third of the Colorado University section
+
The entirety of the playable Colorado section of the game featuring Ellie and David's group of cannibals and then the final bit where Joel just comforts Ellie after killing David - that was when the father-daughter dynamic of the relationship happened for me and is, quite frankly, my favourite scene from the entire game
+ The final 10/15 minutes of the game

Saints Row IV:

+
Climbing the rocket at the start of the game to the sound of Aerosmith's Don't Want to Miss a Thing

Mass Effect 3:

+ The endgame (up to the ending)

Halo 3:

+ The entirety of Chapter 7
+ The final 10/15 minutes of the game

Metal Gear Solid 2:

+ The opening scene ("The Hudson River. Two years ago")
+
Emma Emmerich's death ( :'( )
+
The Patriots revealing themselves as the puppets behind the entire Big Shell incident

Metal Gear Solid 4:

+
The entire backstory between Big Boss and Zero's rivalry in Act 3 (It did get longwinded, but hell, I liked it)
+
Ocelot acting like a badass with the fingers controlling the soldiers using SOP in Act 3
+
The entirety of Act 4 - the nod back to the original MGS1 as you infiltrate Shadow Moses, the knock on Blu-ray by Otacon, Snake taking on various MG Gekko whilst Raiden takes on Vamp in the background, Naomi's death ( :( ), piloting Metal Gear Rex and Raiden chopping off his other arm to save Snake just as Ocelot's Arsenal Gear-like sub nearly crushes Snake.
+ Microwave scene

But no matter what, the one scene I always go back to, the one bit I will forever remember as the thing that cemented what I wanted to be - writing about games - is the final seven minutes of Metal Gear Solid 3.

The Last of Us has since become my favourite game ever, but even now, Metal Gear Solid 3 - my once former favourite game ever - holds the mantle of containing my favourite scene from a game ever. It made me cry at a game for the first time (and everytime I see that ending, I still do cry), it made me feel about a character in a certain way for the first time and it made sure that I was in the right industry. The usage of Starsailor's Way to Fall - the inclusion of which was a complete accident but turned out to be one of the best coincidences - was the icing of the cake.

I don't want to write about those final seven minutes - writing it would be an injustice - so here's the video of it instead. But it truly encapsulates the best of storytelling in games and I will defend that scene as an example of that as such to my grave.

Story moment: "what can change the nature of a man" in Planescape Torment.
Gameplay moment: many battles and setpieces in Halo series

As much as I dislike the game, Mass Effect 3 when
Mordin dies... oh man all the feels, and a perfect send off to a fantastic character
. Another one I'd give to The Walking Dead
for me crying like a bitch at when you have to leave Clem, The Walking Feels amirite

On a different note however, I'm also quite fond of the real ending of Catherine where
you get turned into jesus and bang a goddess

EDIT: Also the ending of Lufia 2, so much feels, that game is still my fav RPG of all time (would've also mentioned Chrono Trigger but it looks like that has been covered pretty well already)

Persona 3

Before the end of the final battle
when you realize that your special attack is also going to kill you but if you don't do it then everyone else is going to die.

Then that final scene on the
rooftop resting your head on Aigis's lap, hearing the voices of your approaching friends as their own memories return, just before you close your eyes and die.

I remember this giving me goosebumps when I saw it. :)

Also the entire climb up Hyrule Castle in Twilight Princess as the music starts off normally and slowly warps into something entirely different as you get higher into the castle.

Steven Heck coming to bail me out with a minigun in a train in Alpha Protocol. Also some of the end game stuff you can do like punching Leland, taunting Albatross to assault Alpha Protocol, or having Mina/Steven save you.

Shooting a portal at the moon in Portal 2 and then Wheatley's conversation with the Space Core at the end.

In the "most memorable" category...

FFVII-MidgarZolom_Death.jpg

The sense of disbelief and dread in 11 year old me, seeing what Sephiroth did to that snake that had just annihilated me.

So freaking amazing. The intense wave of emotion is something I wont forget.

If endings count, I want to add:

Links Awakening.
Phantom hourglass, specifically right at the very end when a piece of the Zelda theme gets played on bagpipes or some similar instrument.

I couldn't agree more it gave me goosebumps!

I never made it to the end of phantom hourglass I may have to now!

Kind of disappointed I haven't seen any mentions of Journey yet...
the final ascent of the mountain and onto the summit is just sublime.

Wind Waker
The final battle is fantastic, followed by a great speech from Ganondorf and then the tragic piano kicks in. I went back and played the ending of this game for months.

I also agree with The Technomancer for VLR, and I'll add a much different scene:

SPOILERS, SERIOUSLY-
Talking with Luna in the garden, and you find out what she really is. As she begins breaking down, so did I.

The end of TellTale's The Walking Dead episode 5

Peace Walker spoilers:
The scene after the Rescue Chico mission. Big Boss finds chico and then gives what is possibly the most epic speech Big Boss has ever given.

Metal Gear Solid 4
The first time I played this I was in awe. I couldn't believe I was in a Metal Gear fighting another Metal Gear. It blew my mind and still does every time I replay it.
MGS_Boss_Rex_vs_Ray.jpg

Shadow of the Colossus where your horse Agro
comes limping back after you thought he was dead from the fall.

Easily one of the best gaming moments. Lots of moments in that game though. From the game mechanics to the world. Just about everything.

God of War II - Climbing Mt. Olympus at the end with the titans

Uncharted 3- Airplane scene and what follows

Journey - The entire ending after the snow scenes

Last of Us ending - That simple dialogue at the end gave me chills, end of Summer, end of Winter

TLOU ending
Final few minutes of Halo 3
Final 2 bosses of Rising are both really great.
Spec Ops: The Line ending where you learn that
Walker was dead the entire time

Irisu Syndrome.
The 'good' ending to the main game.
Freaked out when I saw her walking across my desktop. Ditto for when the game shut itself down.
