It's not unusual for a musician to come out visibly drunk, but when Oberst does so, it sends his performance to hell. He needs to learn to handle his booze, or something.
Agreed. The man was a fumbling, drunken mess that was embaressing to watch. At the end of the show, he has an impromptu jam session with the same three chords over and over ON TOP OF THE DRUM SET WHILE THE DRUMMER IS STILL PLAYING. After he realizes what he's doing, he takes off his guitar, throws it on the drum set, throws up a "peace" sign and walks off the stage.

He was drinking the whole show in front of the crowd, by the way. Horrible.

Maybe you could help me. I tried The Magnetic Fields. Hell, I even paid $30 for their 69 Love Songs box set and listened to the whole thing. I'm either missing something, or in my professional appreciation of music they suck. Why do so many people like them?

Really.

Yar.... i feel the same way about 'em.

However, you might want to check this out: http://69lovesongs.info/wiki/
It's a pretty interesting read.

I love the Magnetic Fields. imo a good accessible piece is "Sad Little Moon," I'm actually including it on one of my GA mixes I'm sending out because it's just a nice, peaceful little ditty that still feels like the Magnetic Fields. Merritt's work w/ Helium and Mary Timony is also quite good, but then again I'm a Helium fan from way back so I may be biased.

Why are you ashamed of liking Britney Spears? :-P I love some of her songs.

Toxic's addicting.. haha.
Glad they have that option, cause I have no idea how Coldplay made it into my top ten. I've had this for a year+ but I've never listened THAT much to them.

The band Bjork was in before she went solo. Really good stuff. I want to say they sound somewhat like The Pixies, but that's a stretch. Certainly like nothing she did on her own.

I just started listening to them, they kind of sound like a punk B-52's to me.

I like the sound of that!
They are fantastic, I highly recommend getting It's-It to see if they are too your liking and then diving into the catalogue. If you do like them musically, then I'd recommend you venture into Gus Gus land.

You should really warn him about Einar.
