What's your opinion of Miyamoto?

I like Miyamoto. His philosophy is refreshing, his games are great (regardless of how much influence he may have on them), and he's very comedically photogenic.

I'm not at all worried about the direction that Nintendo is taking under Iwata and Miyamoto. Gooooo shorter games!!!

I'd love to meet the man who made so many worlds that I spent so much time in as a child. I'd be speechless, but he seems so... untouched by the politics of the industry. I'd love to play SMB or something with him.

He sounds so innocent when he gives interviews. That's one thing that I never notice from any other Japanese developer. He seems so... genuine. He makes me want to play his games, for fear that I would hurt his feelings or something.

There is no one else on the planet like him. I envy people who have me/know him.

He has my utmost respect.

But i wouldn't say it's innocence, it's just pure will that's all. This guy must be passionate about life in general. True artist/creator and prolly a good person. I give 100% respect to all people like this.

He's the greatest. But it seems like he has his fingers in tons of projects. He should just stick with one team and work on games until completion instead of just offering ideas.

He's one of the few great thinkers/theorists of game design. What he his created is less important to me than his philosophy on game design. His approach towards challenge, ease of use, and fun helped push Nintendo to the top in the late 80's and early 90's. And with his work on Mario64 and OOT, Nintendo played an important role in defining the way in which we approach 3D worlds.

He's the Willy Wonka of video games.

Only, he looks a bit more like an oompa loompa.

Damn fucking right. That's exactly how I describe him to people not in the know. The Willy Wonka of video games.

Going back to Miyamoto's smile: it rules. I'm sure it brightens the day of anyone in its presence, and probably gets a tired nintendo artist or programmer or something through a day. :D

I also think a certain character bears a striking resemblence to him, at least when you compare the faces.

After reading just half of the first page, I can already tell this is just a thread where you plan to shoot down anything positive said about him, so I won't bother.

If you want my current opinion of the man, check out the latest japan sales thread.

Shigeru Miyamoto is a very talented man. But definitely over the years, he has become a PR man, and sort of a collective representative of EAD. Anytime EAD has done good, Miyamoto sort of takes the whole credit.

If anything, Takashi Tezuka may be more talented and accomplished.

"father of gaming" :D :lol

I respect his past accomplishments also, even though personally his games did nothing for me aside from the original Donkey Kong. He's disappeared a loooong time ago... not a knock, but his best work is long behind him. Having him in the "business" side now only made that happen faster and hinder his talents & lessen his contributions.
