When do you think Nintendo announces next hardware?

Next year close to Tears of the Kingdom release definitely
at least i hope so 😭
Nope, then they'll miss out on that sweet double penet... dipping action of getting you to buy the game twice when they make sure Switch 2 isnt BC.

i didn't say switch 2, could be a revision like a special edition oled with Zelda motives or a better lite version

Im guessing somewhere next year, right now during holiday season its dumb to talk about the next system, the Switch has one year more of life and there should be plenty of cross gen games though

It will be revealed…

I think that Zelda will be the last 'big' release for the Switch before they focus their efforts on a new console. 2023 reveal and a 2024 release.
Zelda is better used when positioned as a launch title to carry a new console than as a swansong trapped on the "old" hardware.

I'm sure Nintendo learned their lesson from Skyward Sword and BOTW and how it's infinitely more beneficial to use Zelda as a launch anchor (or dual launch at best)

Whenever switch sales drop significantly.

Even now, though the Switch isn't moving the numbers it was in say 2020, it's not that bad of a drop.

Once its clear the average joe and jane are ready for a new system, then they'll announce something

2026 but the SOC will be 4yr old ampere based.

You joke but I could easily see Nvidia just using Orin and calling it a day.

We would be lucky to get Orin, lol. The most likely Orin module, the TE980M, isn't even out yet. Literally not available until next week. I was putting my money on Xavier, but now it's not looking like we won't get Switch 2 until 2024 at the earliest, so who knows.
One thing I can tell you is all the people out there treating the NVidia leak as gospel regarding this are in for disappointment.

If it really is a Switch 2 or Pro then they want to release it before the Switch sales start to plummet big time. It's all about catching the ball while it's still in the air not picking it up off the floor.

The timing is perfect for May 2023. All big Switch releases seem to end there with Zelda which could also double as a launch game for Switch 2 boosted by the perfect marketing in April with the Super Mario movie. Announcement in January.

The fact that a Tegra X1 processor is installed in the Switch and this in turn has a cluster CPU architecture, another Tegra could be installed in the docking station.
As a result, Nintendo could theoretically offer a 4k 60fps switch with DLSS for the TV.
Nintendo could get away with something like that

No one should honestly be expecting a pro edition of the Switch at this point. And if they did do a pro edition, I agree, it would most likely be based on the AGX version of Xavier. While I would love for Switch's successor to run off Thor, the Ada based Tegra, I could only realistically see it using Ampere. So Orin TE980-M. But 2,048 4nm Ada CUDA cores clocked at 640MHz would be so perfect for a handheld.

This has been on the table since Day 1, yet never utilized. The NVidia leak suggests this type of design for Switch 2 (NVN2), but the associated specs make me think it's pure fantasy.

Indeed, and honestly this all just suggests that Switch 2 will be later than people might assume. If they release next year, it will be a shock to me if they use Orin. I'm guessing 2024.

If they go the "Pro" route, I expect Pro is just the Home console version with upgraded internals of Switch, so it pairs with the Lite.

That way they could keep pricing down and launch whatever is next in 2026. Probably would not be a Switch concept. Maybe AR system.

Not quite, there was no decent DLSS in 2015. The technology is now so efficient and comparatively cheap, which absolutely fits Nintendo's hardware strategy
Sans DLSS, obviously...but the ability to increase the horsepower has been there since Day 1. I remember many people at the time suggesting that Nintendo could release a "Pro" dock, and quite frankly...they should've.

Shhh you're making too much sense.

It's clearly coming out in 2024, despite Nintendo not having a single major title announced for Switch before or after TotK's release in 5 months...

Going by their track record, The switch 2 will be released precisely 2 years too late and be no more than 50% of the power it could have been.

Doesn't mean I wont buy one though.

It's a strange thing. It seems as if Covid has crossed their plans and whatever they had in mind has been withdrawn and it's just Switch Oled for now. I guess it's possible that it will be announced at any time.

I think the Switch 2 will come Q1 2024 at the earliest.

They announced the Switch six months in advance, so I would guess September 2023 at the earliest.

They promised and iirc doubled down on no announcement this fiscal year, so I expect the announcement to be made shortly after this fiscal year ends.

Switch 2 coming in 2024. Comes with a black and white screen. Needs 8 AA batteries.

Jokes aside, whatever it is will be underpowered.

Wasn't the Switch just three or four months in advance? I could have sworn it was shown off just after the holiday shopping season and then launched in early spring.

EDIT: Nope! Pure headcanon. Wikipedia says it was unveiled in October. My bad.

They are making huge profit margins on the Switch. 5 years + innards and no price drop. Holiday sales will be key. If there is a significant drop in sales they'll know they're well into the downward part of the sales curve. Nintendo forecast a 10 year life cycle, reckon new hardware will come in in year 6 or 7 of Switch 's cycle depending on Holiday sales.

The longer they wait the more powerful they can make it....but wait too long and they resynch with Sony and MS hardware releases which they'll want to avoid like the plague.

Pretty sure TBD/TBA isn't an announced date. This game was most likely pushed to Switch 2 long long ago.
Ok, I'll put your quote here again... It's clearly coming out in 2024, despite Nintendo not having a single major title announced for Switch before or after TotK's release in 5 months

I say 2024. I don't think Nintendo is worried about power is happy just to release Switch games next year.

E3 2023. Well they dont do E3, but when they do their online show during that time. Launch time is 2024.

But going by Switch's history on wiki, their PR and launch dates can be all over the place whereas Xbox and PS consoles always launch in Q4. Switch was officially announced in Oct 2016 and released in March 2017.

They should release it alongside the new Zelda like they did with Switch/ Wii U. Feels like they've been kinda quiet. Launch it with Mario Kart 9 and watch it smash every record.

That was sarcasm mate...should I explain that as well?

Who leaves a 6 year old system on the market for 12+ more months without a single major game announced within the next 5 months (especially after having already announced their biggest flagship in that same 5 months span)?

Early 2024 announce and release. Mario Kart 10 (Tour is 9) launching with the system.

Some of you expecting a long period between announce and release are forgetting current trends

The leaks have it using Ampere I believe.

Why would e Nvidia's own documents be fantasy?

I do think the model is coming 2023, but I don't think we can tell much from the line up. It's normal for Nintendo to start a calendar year with the majority of that year's games unannounced.
They promised and iirc doubled down on no announcement this fiscal year, so I expect the announcement to be made shortly after this fiscal year ends.
They promised no release this fiscal year, but I don't think they promised no announcement

The current trends are still for 6 months to a year between official announcement and release (even longer when you measure from when the codename is announced).

For whatever it is worth, I think we see the announcement a few weeks after Fire Emblem Engage...if...it is launching with Zelda. I would think around 2.8.2023.
