When does Justified get good?

Season 1, Episode 9 "Hatless" is when I knew it was great. It takes awhile to get running early on but by the end of S1 and definitely with the opener of S2 it became a great show.

CBS procedural?! Haha, y'all jokers are funny.

I was lukewarm on most of season 1, but season 2 is where the show took off for me.

And what the fuck at "mediocre CBS procedural?" Lol.
 
If raylan givens and I were stuck in a cabin in the winter and he whispered in my ear if I wanted to spoon, I'd say hell to the yes that man is my man crush.

But yeah, season 1 isn't the strongest in the slightest. Keep going.
 
I think your next episode is The Dentist, which is one of the best episodes of the entire series but also one of the last standalone ones before it goes full serialized.
 
Good from episode one, a few rough villain of the week episodes and from episode seven (I think) onward it's full greatness ahead. When they do stand alone episodes after that they're usually really good, funny and focused on existing supporting characters.

It's literally only a procedural for the first six episodes, and they tie them all together
 
They had me at Fried Chicken. Actually, I loved it from the beginning, but that was the episode that solidified it for me.

I would NOT dig coal with some of you people, that's for sure.

The ending of the first season when it kicks in is one of the best endings ever. I would actually say it was the best ending of the show, and I actually feel like it would have been a cooler ending for the series than what we got.
 
It stays pretty cutesy, that's just Elmore Leonard's style. And it feels at times like Raylan's character is some kind of an infallible ego stroke for Timothy Olyphant, but he does become more human as the series progresses.

I think it's likable from the start, but if you're not into it after it drops one-shot episodes and goes full serial, just give up on it.

And if you get as far as Mags Bennett and still don't like it, well...
 
7-8-9 episode I think. It's around there. The first episodes are kinda garbage (outside of the first one).

The initial procedural cases are very very bad. You still have quite a few left. The case of the week gets kinda dropped although sometimes it will still show up and they are solid (mostly cause you get the hang of characters, and Olyphant is pure ace in the whole thing).

Keep watching. I had the same exact reaction.

Easily one of the best episodes of the first season.

The first season is just a pretty good procedural. The jump in quality between season one and two is pretty huge. Season one took me a few weeks of committing to get through, but I ploughed through 2 - 6 in no time.
Theres a small dip in season 5, but overall the show goes from strength to strength. Every character is so damn charming, even the villains.
 
Season 1, Episode 1. It continues being good from there.
 
I just binge watched this entire series pretty hard (like, I watched the whole thing in a week and a half). Solely because it had Walton Goggins in it. Season 1 was overall not that great. It was ok for having on in the background, certain episodes captured me but overall it was just fluff. Most people say it gets good around episode 8 of season 1, but honestly it didn't have me captured until the last two or so episodes. From that point on though it's pretty great. There's a stupid plot in season 2 involving Raylan's ex-wife, but nothing that bad. If you don't like the series by Season 2, give up on it. It's definitely the best season, though the following ones are all pretty great. People say season 5 was bad, but I enjoyed it enough.

I think it's an great oversight that most people don't mention that the first thing that happens in the show is Agent 47 murdering the villain from The Mask. That alone is worth watching, then you keep going and the rest of the show is good too.

I always used to wonder if that was the same guy when I watched Spin City. He looked so different in the 90's.
 
I actually hated the dentist episode. That and the guy at the Marshall's office wore on me when watching the show. The strength of the first episode is what pulled me through to the good stuff at the end of the first season. If someone gets into Season 2 and does't like it, get off the boat. It's not for you.
 
Justified is amazing, currently on my top 10 series easily. If you don't like it past Season 1 just drop it OP.

The only thing that I regret is waiting so long to watch it.
 
Started a rewatch of Justified because of this thread....just finished the Hilter painting episode (episode 6) and it is definitely starting to get that Justified groove going.
 
Season 2 is incredible. The rest of the series is pretty hit and miss. That is the short answer. I had a strange relationship with it, because the highs were very high but it got pretty low and dull at times tho.
 
Justified is an amazing show although its quality varies significantly from season to season.

Season 1 - Great pilot, followed by a bunch of bland case of the week episodes (though I do like the one with the dentist), picks up significantly in the last handful of episodes

Season 2 - Overall one of the best seasons of television I've seen. Starts off a little slow as it sets up the season's arc but everything from episode 5 on is incredible.

Season 3 - A ton of fun but ultimately pretty messy

Season 4 - Great season, holds together better than season 3. Drags for 2-3 episodes in the middle but starts and ends very strong.

Season 5 - Something went wrong here. This season is just missing something. The villains aren't compelling at all and every character is stranded in dull plotlines that emphasize their worst qualities.

Season 6 - Great return to form, one of the better final seasons ever. Last half of the season is impeccable.

And I remember not being taken with most of the side characters at first, but I loved all of them by the end. Tim and Rachel are the greatest.

This is an extremely accurate accounting of the seasons.
 
Season Two is amazing, Season Three makes you all like "omg they're actually going to top it" and then just completely loses the plot and goes nuts.

Though maybe it's supposed to do that...mirroring Quarles' descent into utter unhinged madness. /fanexcuses

Season Four is nuts in a good way, Raylan and Winona at the start of that finale oh man.

One thing I didn't care for is that the show added progressively more unrealistic and over the top blood effects. And Sam Elliott's constantly lopsided head.

"I want you men to help me get a Dairy Queen franchise."
