when/if to buy PS3 as secondary console to 360?

right popping back into town one for Uncharted and a headset, just set it up added all my info (i can see why you guys like the d-pad so much(forgot the sticks are loosy goosey).

Signed in while im out so add Gowans007 also I need to work out how to download US cheap DLC PSN games, aka everyday ;)

Anyway its preowned central in town took these to compare some prices:

looks like the wii is worth 8-10 gamecubes there.

It's a fine console and far better engineered than the 360.

With that said, it gathers dust on my shelf. I played three quarters of the way through Heavenly Sword and completed Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank.

I'm still not blown away.

My 360 gets atleast double the amount of use than my PS3 when it comes to straight gaming and I buy something from the XBL marketplace atleast once a week. PSN? I can't even remember the last time I bought something there...Super Stardust a month and a half ago I think.

The PS3 is a far, FAR nicer console to use when watching DVDs, blu-rays, DIVX, etc, however...

I imagine my PS3 will get much more use in time. Right now. It's a really nice DVD/Blu Ray player with added functionality.

Gowans buy Folklore! Not sure if you're in Europe, US, or other, but if you are in the US it's $29.99 at Target. If not maybe you can order it online. It's the first game I've played that really utilizes the sixaxis well. Alot of games have these same price cuts I've seen. Stranglehold 29.99, and NGS is 39.99 @ Gamestop.

Everyday Shooter is a nice dlc game too for the price.

thanks to all the guys who have added me so far, not used to my friends list being so barren :lol.

Totally lost with all the customiseation and getting my personal profile pic and motto. Sure you guys will lett me know what I need to, might give up and put in uncharted for the mo.

The triangle button is your friend in the XMB.

Also for PSN thinking about

Everyday Shooter
Stardust HD
PixelJunk Monsters
Warhark

think thats it.

Good starter list.

It plays Divx?

I thought we were still waiting on that.

Sorry. I might be wrong. A coworker scored me the first season of The Wire and burned it onto some discs. Hmmm...I thought they were DIVX or...something?

My kung fu is NOT strong with that shit, but the nice thing was that I put the disc in, moved over to media and there were all the episodes in a nice easy format to select.

nope, it's been playing divx/xvid and wmv since december.

it's not quite as compatible as 360 when it comes to playback, but it'll play most stuff, unless you like anime, some anime rippers use features that the ps3 currently doesn't support.

All of those are good choices with 2 of them being in the top games of this gen imo.

Anyway if you find yourself enjoying Resistance online and want to play with other Gaffer's send me a PM and i'll send an invite for the clan.

thanks guys, if you have a space get me added, look forward to joining in and having some guys to compete of the leaderboards against.

Yeah...I just noticed you got past some of my Pinball FX scores, I tried beating yours last night and I couldn't :(

But SuperStarDust is a great leaderboard game. Excellent game, don't pass it up!

yeah, I don't....

But Ghost Hunters starts soon, and I don't get it in Canada, so it'll be nice to have that feature sans crazy fan noise.

Ah shit, I'll have to try it.

Yeah. It generally works great. Basically, if it's a Divx file compatible with Stage6, it's compatible with PS3. That's one of the reasons why Stage6 rules for getting videos for your PS3.

Most other videos that don't work are pretty easy to convert to make them work. I'm a Mac user, so I use these three tools:

Quicktime Pro with Flip4Mac and Perian installed
FFMpegX
Divx Converter

With those, I can pretty easily convert any tricky or non-standard video to a PS3-compatible video fairly easily on my Mac.

But I don't get stage6, I always have a hard time finding shows.

Do you have to use another site as a portal? Cause if I do a regular search, i end up with promos and stuff instead of the actual episode.

The PS3 plays pretty much anything. It was pretty wowsome to watch the latest 1UP show on my TV. This console is totally AFW.

I'd suggest to play the demo first. Some people find the game kind of boring.

Fair. It's not for everybody, but I have much love for the game. My only real complaint is not enough voice acting. Demo first. Then buy it if you like it. I hope you like it though. Not enough love for this game.

I would wait a few more months until the exclusives start coming out. Everything else you can already get on the 360, and even though I love my PS3, I definitely wish there were more games. I find myself playing the 360 much much more.

I have (in order of preference) a Gaming PC/360/DS/Wii and I'm also wondering when I should get a PS3. I figure I'll wait until the DS3 controllers become standard and an exclusive I can't resist is out, so maybe Final Fantasy XIII or something. Half the reason for wanting a PS3 would be to double as a Blu-ray player.

It's probably a combination of two things:

-The search engine on Stage 6 blows.

-People have gotten wise to the fact that for some content, it's a bad idea to use the actual name to identify it, as it might get removed.

Generally, for music videos, shorts, and clips (like say your favorite band makes a live appearance on a TV show) its fantastic. For full-length episodes and stuff, where copyrights are involved more heavily, you probably have to do some digging or find a link off-site.

would love to have some games on Resistance later with you guys, pm sent.

Also saved at chapter 4 on Uncharted, the way the narative is in the game is outstnding, closest film/game story mix yet.

Now to check out some demos and customise up.

Also whats the deal with the stores then am I worth buying things from the US? and how do I set it up on my profile etc. also whats the deal with sharing?

Get it when the ps3 has the games you want on it out. I had to get mine last year because I wanted one of the older models. Oh and LOL at all the post saying the ps3 can't be a secondary console.:lol

You may have problems purchasing stuff with your credit card on some other region stores.

For the Japan PS store, you can buy pre-loaded cards online.

It's region-free though, as long as you have an HDTV, though Blu-Ray movies are region-locked.

Sharing is someone giving you their PSN sign-in info, then you create an account with their info on your PS3. You can then go in and download for free games that they purchased from the PS store.

Congrats on buying a PS3. :)

If you still find your friends list barren, add me (my GAF nick) since my friends list is also pretty barren... also need to game some more Resistance with someone.

thanks guys,

One last question, I'll try to download most of my stuff form the US store as its cheaper and has more. Any drawbacks? i.e. playing on my UK account etc?

I hate to say it, but the PS3 aint workin as a secondary console to me either. i end up getting everything for the 360. I don't know what it is, but I feel mad lonely on the PS3 lol.

I spose it's all good tho. I really only bought the thing for SOCOM. I'll get my friends back then.

cant support anyone who buys uncharted used.

This here is the truth. That's one game you SHOULDN'T do that to. Take it back, and buy the full-retail virgin copy now. It deserves full support, especially since it's probably one of, if not most-fun games of last year.

Anyways, congrats on the system purchase, it's really an impressive machine, and will surely quickly become on equal grounds at the very least to your other machine. Usually happens while you're waiting for the UPS guys for some people if the games like Warhawk, Uncharted, Ratchet, SSHD, or Resistance's MP don't do it first.

Have fun keeping it clean too btw. It's a dust magnet, you turn it on and just watch the dust start getting pulled to it :lol

My problem is that I'm wrestling with the fact that LO has made me interested in catching up with some of the JRPGs from last gen.

SO do I drop $125 (PS2) + $20 (mem card) + ~$25 (component cables) = $170 on a PS2 or do I just drop the big bills now on a PS3 with backwards compatibility and just not look back.

Not sure what to do. The fact that BC is going away at retail isn't helping me at all. Otherwise I'd just wait for a pricedrop and pick up whatever SKU they were offering when there's enough PS3 games released to make me interested.

Probably will get a PS3 off ebay.

Get one now, there's more than enough of a catalog of PS3 games to catch up on. Just out of curiousity, do you own a 360? For some reason it seems 360 owners really enjoy picking up 2nd hand PS3's. Just buy it brand new, you never know how shit was treated, and there's nothing like pulling that silky wrap off the new machine that smells like new.

Holy shit, PS3 with 2 games for ÂŁ249.99?

When i have the cash I'm definitely going to take a trip to get one, who cares if its pre-owned at that price?

I'm very tempted to secure a 60GB refurb unit. I love my PS2 library and want full BC with upscaling. Or maybe I should hold out for a new SKU? Man MS and Sony both suck for this multiple SKU garbage...

To be perfectly honest, I don't want to pay $500 for a console will be used primarily in 2008 as a BC machine.

I'll buy most multiplat games for the 360 because of my friends list. And really there just isn't a lot coming out that's exclusive for the PS3 that I couldn't wait for (meaning, wait for a price drop).

So that leave same with the situation I outlined in my earlier post.

EDIT:

If you like JRPGs, i say drop the $ and get a 60GB while they still exist.

Great for only needing one machine for ps1/2/3 games, plus it upscales.

There's good stuff to play now, and 2008 will be even better. MGS4, Disgaea, Valkyrie of the Battlefield, and WKS. (I hope these get 80 US releases.)

Believe.

That's where I'm leaning. Or maybe a refurb 20GB. Going to upgrade the HDD anyhow.

Don't think I'll buy any PS3 games at first, probably until 09 when FFXIII drops. I have some PS2 games to catch up with.

A few of the games interest me (UT3, Warhawk) but if I play shooters I like to play with my friends on the 360.

Get a BC PS3. I haven't even turned on my PS2 once ever since I got my PS3.

I didn't pick up a PS2 until 5 years into its life cycle. It may be a similar situation for the PS3. However, as it stands right now, there's nothing I'm interesting in with the current library or the announced future library. God of War 3 could probably entice me though.

Same here. Ended up giving my old launch ps2 which was on it's last legs to my younger sister so she can finish up the Xenosaga Series and play FF IX.

Get MLB 08 Teh Show, it's gonna be awesome, if you like baseball.
