When people say, "you look tired".

I specifically say it to be passive aggressive and rude without getting called out

Along with walking into someone's house I know doesn't have pets and asking where their dogs are

And asking your name even if we've met seven times and I don't like you

And asking someone where they ran from when they get to a meeting to imply they look like frazzled shit even if they don't

Honestly I have a huge list of these types of insults I've made up on my phone

Just saw a coworker tell the other that she looked tired. You could tell she was annoyed.

I hear people say this shit all the time. I feel like it's a pretty rude thing to say. Basically telling someone they look like shit, which I've overheard people tell others as well.

What do you all think of this?

Does anyone here actually tell people this? Do you get told that you're tired? What do you think of it? lol
I only say it to close friends who genuinely look tired -- it's said with empathy as a way to express care and invite them to share what's going on.

I wouldn't do it with acquaintances.

Yeah. It shows a level of concern. Be happy that people even give a shit. If I don't give a fuck about you, then you won't hear a single word from me. I've never really taken, "you look tired" as a negative. I appreciate it, if anything.

Seriously. Some of you people must hang around or work with shitty people to be so suspicious.

One to add to your list:

Pretending not to understand someone's joke so they have to repeat it or explain it, thereby ruining the joke.

Am I right in assuming you only do this with people you dislike? ;-)

It really depends on how it's said. It can easily be said with an air of disdain as opposed to empathy.

I've been told this a few times at work. I don't make a fuss about it because the people who have said it look awful their damn self.

I don't say that unless i have the power to free that person from the job and im willing to do so. Someone who looks tired already knows he is tired.

My Panda Eyes are permanent, and since I stopped wearing makeup, it's pretty much my normal state.

If they tell me I look tired at the office, I probably haven't slept in the whole night and I'm moving like Wall-E in the mornings.

Most people at my work place will just straight up say "are you okay? You look like shit" no sublte stuff here.

I kind of love this.

when i see some reactions here, i just think we should never talk again to anybody... you try to be nice, but apprently it's not okay! I mean really?

-"hey man are you ok? You look tired!"

-"FUCK YOU, YOU'RE RUDE TO ME, AAAAAAAAAAGH"

I don't find it offensive and i think most of the time people just ask this to start a conversation with no ill intent behind it.
Then again you're tired and with a terrible mood so you find any comment offensive haha.
You could go the other way and say 'i've had a terrible day and i'm really exhausted but none of my workmates had the decency to ask me how i am,what a bunch of dickheads.."

My manager recently told me I look tired, and asked if I wanted to take an on-the-clock nap to recharge.

I love this place.

It's rude, and it's surprising to me how casually people are rude to eachother in this area. One of the twitch streamers I watch is a woman - And occasionally she streams with little or no makeup (how dare she!) and the "you look tired" comments are endless.

I have long hair right now and I get random questions or comments about it work fairly regularly.... I think it's them trying to make small talk and just saying dumb stuff unintentionally. I just don't say anything about how people look at work ever because I genuinely don't give a fuck.

People that say this to me are

a) usually right

b) acutally care and it's not meant as some wierd double meaning or whatever.

I'm glad i work at a place with decent people. Can't imagine hating my coworkers and not caring about them at all.

I'm younger than some of the folks on my team and they tell me this out of concern. It's allergy season so I am tired all the time. I don't really mind the questions as it comes from a good place.

I would just think you were slightly developmentally delayed or had a learning disability. You would have my pity.

Hell yeah I look tired. It's because of those 12-hour workdays I've been working for God knows how many years. Now disappear from my sight before I muster the last of my strength to bitchslap you.

I think its just an empty conversation filler type thing. Like if you see someone yawning a lot you usually ask if they're tired without really thinking about it. I don't see any real harm in it.

I think feeling annoyed by it is a massive overreaction, unless it's the person telling you this is a total stranger. For the most part I've only EVER said that to people I know well, when I could actually tell they look like they've had a rough day or honestly do look tired because I've seen them often enough to know when that's the case. It doesn't mean they look like shit, and I've never had anyone take the comment that way.

One of the worst things.

I've got really bad allergies and a result of that is that my skin is often very inflamed and dry. Can be in subtle places (joints, back) or obvious places (face, hands).

When my face is in a bad state I've had two people straight up say "You look awful".

Funny you say that - I feel totally fine! I absolutely don't feel like my skin is an alien entity hanging on my face that I want to scratch off!

I used to do this, guilty. my wife set me straight. I always meant it as a sympathetic/empathetic gesture. I was wrong.

TBF, everyone I've had say something like this to me has had a sincere/empathetic motive behind saying it.

It never comes of well, though. I think it's just passable if you're on a 1:1 basis, like there's no one else around.

Honestly I feel its best to not say this as it shows I am looking at my colleagues, judging their appearance, and feel like I am entitled to announce that judgement.

It can make people feel self-conscious or can be taken badly.

If someone is acting tired however I think it's fair to show concern.

But then again I work in a workplace that is mostly made up of women and as a man I try and judge their appearance as little as possible. This covers weight, hair, make up, clothes, etc. It's not my place to say and is inappropriate.
