Add in Captain Syrup and we've got ourselves a game!

Add Candy Kong and you got yourself a better game!

Like a space ship sim where you fly around and collect Luma. You have to balance fuel and food and water resources as you fly from planet to planet.
Or don't because hey, you're a goddess.

Also there is a friendship system in place with the Luma. You befriend them and they grow to love you. The ship is powered by Luma, the more the Luma loves you the more fuel you get from it.

Her correct height? She fluctuates between 'a little bit taller than Mario' and 'about Godzilla-sized' in Galaxy 2.

Her Galaxy size (when she's just standing in the observatory) is her correct height, at least that's what I consider it, so her being the same height as Mario in 3D World was so jarring I couldn't enjoy playing as her. My reverence towards characters being the right height isn't exclusive to Rosalina mind you, but it's the most recent example.

Also, this happens in every Rosalina thread, but Rosalina is not a princess, it's weird how many people just accept her as being one.

Yeah, Peach was shorter in 3D World as well, I'm assuming it was for gameplay reasons.

You don't need to look at "later" games. Due to the storybook sequences in Galaxy 1, Rosalina is basically the only character in the main Mario games built up like the ones from the RPGs, with a big backstory. Some people dislike her serious personality, but I don't see how it's problematic when the alternatives for female characters are two princesses often portrayed as airheads (and initially people thought that she wouldn't be used outside of Galaxy due to that personality, especially with most spin off games initially ignoring her, but then she got to appear in Mario Kart Wii).

There also haven't been any big characters introduced after her in the main platformer games in the same way, only one shot bosses or other similar characters without big presence. That kind of thing helps making her stand out and keep relevancy too. Look at the other characters mentioned in this topic, they're all old recurring characters of the series, many of them who are basically restricted to spin offs. There isn't any other new character to really compete with her for attention.

Well....Captain Toad.

Everybody likes Captain Toad, though, so there hasn't been much drama associated there.

What will be more interesting to see is what happens to Rosalina the next time a "large-scale" Mario game is made. Her inclusion in SM3DW was sensible because she brought in a new mechanic that fit in with the rest of the cast and was a fairly simple implementation. Plus as an unlockable she had no real bearing on the story or any of the scant few cutscenes involved. The next time a Mario game is made that tries to get a little more ambitious with its scope (a la the first Mario Galaxy, Sunshine, 64), will Rosalina still be a central character? Will some other NPC take her place? This is why I say I still think she'll remain as a side-character, because I don't foresee them keeping her as prevalent in the mainline series as she was in the Galaxy era.

More strange to me, now that I think about it, is the fact that E. Gadd seems to get absolutely no love from Nintendo, even in the party games, which is weird for as unique of a character as he is in the Mario universe. Shouldn't he at least have showed up in a Mario Kart game or something by now?

Is this supposed to be a snarky comment or an actual response to my statement? Because it really only works as the former. Looking at the rest of the cast, you have characters that are popular because they are cute e.g Yoshi, Shy Guys, Boo, etc. And characters that are popular because they have been around for years and are identified as part of many gamers childhoods, e.g. Mario, Luigi, Koopa, Peach, Bullet Bill, etc. Rosaline falls into neither category. She doesn't have that childish cuteness and she is relatively new. Additionally she really isnt is she made interesting with substantial character depth like characters in other game genres. But yet the tone from Some people make her out to be this intrinsically interesting character. The only identifiable aspects seem to be that she is both generically attractive and seems approachable for "waifu" fans. Maybe I'm missing something from later in the galaxy games?

Rosalina is part of plenty of peoples' childhoods the same way all those other completely superficial, cute, whacky characters from the series are. Children of the 80s don't own Mario. There's nothing different about her compared the other characters aside from having a more modern haircut and not being in as many games yet.

Thank you for wording this issue spread through out so many game series that spawned in the 80's or 90's .

I mean it wont always be valid, DmC Devi May Cry was proof of that , but in many cases this is a problem

Exactly this.

I dunno if she could hold a whole game up by herself... though then again, something involving the Lumas (some sort of puzzle game ala Mario Vs. DK?) would be dope.

Why do people like Rosalina so much? Serious question.

She had cute story in SMG, and she has a nice design, i guess, but is there something more i'm missing? People seem to go bananas everytime she's mentioned.

I can't speak for anyone else but for me, not being a ditz that gets captured every five seconds helped for me. It's nice to not only have a female character that isn't the damsel in distress, but is actually all-powerful to boot.

Nothing against Peach mind you.

Pretty much.

The RPGs especially have been good to Bowser, because they not only gave him the best lines, but they do the most to make him the single most complex character in the entire Mario pantheon. And yet, he still doesn't have a solo role, but that's another story.

Conversely, what little bit of extra character development Luigi finally got in M&L: Dream Team was met with much resistance from Nintendo. If that's what AlphaDream had to go through for that game, I can only wonder IntSys may have had to go through for what tidibts Luigi got in the Paper series.

News to me. Was this in an Iwata asks?

I'ma be honest, I hate Walugi and Wario character designs. I would be perfectly fine with them getting shafted over Rosalina.

I love Wario almost entirely because of the WarioWare series. I wish Nintendo would roll out that design more often.

Waluigi, on the other hand, is literally the single most awful character in the history of video games. The fact that he has any fanbase whatsoever astounds me like nothing else in the world.

Come at me.

The chemistry that could be potentially created between Waluigi and Wario in some crazy Mario Bros. spin-off would be legendary.

OP picture wounds me as I like her better with Luigi :/

Would not be surprised if she got some sort of Eshop game or even a much bigger role (maybe even replacing Mario) in a Galaxy 3 game.

To me, Luigi tends to be "alternate physics Mario" starting all the way back in SMB2 US. They FOUND a reason for him not to be redundant.

I like Rosalina for the same reason... from a game play perspective, she's simply an alternate moveset/physics set in SM3DW, Mario Kart and presumably Smash. And so far, she's been 2 for 2: In 3DW, her double jump is a lot of fun to play with. And in MK, she's pretty damn perfect for me, because I've preferred heavy class racers with higher top speeds starting with the first F-Zero. So I've usually mained DK or Bowser, but Rosie is the lightest heavy which in MK8 is a pretty good sweet spot for me.

Surprised how much hate Rosalina gets. To answer the question, if she were to get a spin-off game, I'd see it as either platformer or puzzle game

I can honestly see them continuing the Galaxy line of games with Rosalina as the playable character, while further pushing the Mario brand in whatever direction they wish.

While I agree and do find this funny...

...I would not be mad if the next Wario game was a team-up with him and Waluigi.

I blame Mario Strikers Charged for my Waluigi thrust. T^T

I'm hoping that's just an unfortunate typo.

I could actually see Rosalina and the Lumas holding down some sort of a little eShop puzzle/platformer sort of game, akin to the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series or any number of indie titles with gravity-messing gimmicks to them. I have a hard time picturing her in some sort of sweeping grand adventure of her own, and like I said earlier I still have my doubts that she's going to remain a mainstay in the mainline Mario titles, but she's well-suited for small projects.

As for the current sub-topic, I like Waluigi, but probably more for his potential than anything he's actually done so far. He, like Daisy, sits in the realm of "could be cool if Nintendo ever actually did anything with them."

Diddy Kong got his own fucking game. He debut in 1994 and got a game 3 years later in 1997.

Where were people when they said Diddy didn't deserve his own game when Diddy Kong Racing became arguably one of the best racing games.

Who are we to deny Rosalina a game and dislike the fact that she's getting one?

Diddy: From platformer to racing.

Rosalina: From platformer to mech fighter.

The only logical genre jump.
