Where are the FPS games on the 3DS?

Or shooter games.

The DS had several and some, in my opinion, were pretty decent. Metroid Prime Hunters was a pretty fun arena shooter (though a bad Prime game), the Call of Duty games weren't too bad, the Renegaade kid games were decent and I thought that the Brothers in Arms game was pretty good.

The touchscreen is good for shooter games like these (better than a analog stick) and the improved hardware could really benefit full 3D games such as FPS or shooters.

So where are they? I guess there's Kid Icarus (I guess debatable) or MGS3 but there should be more.

I can't say I agree.

I think you may be in the minority with that opinion and I suspect that's why there aren't more FPS games. I couldn't stand using the stylus for them on the DS.

Hanging out with that second analog stick.

... Except that'd imply they were in GameStop and on Nintendo's store. Yeah, the touch screen can be better but it is also probalby more EXHAUSTING to keep using, it'd actually probably work better if you could do a mixed setup, kind of scope view when using the touch screen and regular movement controls without.

Nowhere to be found.

Japanese developers usually don't make shooters and Western developers aren't making 3DS games.

Maybe Konami will will bring Coded Arms to 3DS
they should totally revive the PS3 game

I'm someone who really enjoyed Metroid Prime Hunters, including its online play, as well as the two Dementium games on original DS. I feel like there's a lost opportunity in the lack of games using that control scheme for the 3DS.

the complete lack of them is slightly baffling, i would have thought COD would be coming this year but its getting too late for an announcement now aint it?

I don't know, there should be a lot more games and genres on 3DS considering the success of the DS and now the good sales of the 3DS. What's surprising to me is that a lot of gaming companies don't even bother to do cheap ports.

Have you ever tried the thumb stylus that came with the DS phat? It's amazing for fps. I would consider it superior actually.

Or just bundle that thumb strap with the game. That thing worked wonders.

I didn't play much of MPH (I didn't like what little I played) and after playing Kid Icarus, I don't think the ergonomics of the 3DS is suited to holding it with one hand using the touch screen.

Moving with 4 face buttons and aiming with left analog worked fantastic in a few shooters on PSP... you can always offer moving with analog and aiming with face buttons as a standard for those who really can't make the switch.

MPH controlled pretty well but my hand would cramp up like crazy whenever I played it. I don't think the 3ds is suitable for shooters.

Sadly Retro is wasting their time making horrible DK games right now.

I'll pay gold for a new Metroid Prime on the 3DS.

Yeah where are they? I remember all those fancy control schemes montages discussions on the internet and other dream concepts and then nothing came out after metroid.

Metroid Prime Hunters 2. Believe. Really though, I do wish there were at least a few shooters on the 3DS, but it's not a big deal to me. I can't say I'm missing them too much.

I know everyone hates on Prime Hunters (it's somewhat justified), but for a Nintendo game, its online was way ahead of it's time. Best and most featured online in any Nintendo game to date. Kind of sad in a way.

The western studios that make FPS games have no interest in the 3DS, and whereas we used to get farmed-out DS CoD games, they were really just because the DS sold so many units worldwide that not doing it was leaving money on the table. The 3DS isn't as popular outside of Japan where the bulk of the shooter fans reside, simple as that.

If the 3DS starts to sell better outside of Japan then I can see the odd crap port being made, but other than that I can't say I miss them. If you want cheap FPS knockoffs the smartphones have shedloads of them with touch controls that cater to the gamer that cant bear to be without a faceshooter for five minutes these days, and if you want a decent handheld with shooters on it, the Vita is a far better fit, so it's more likely than any resources earmarked for a 3DS version with one stick just get absorbed into the Vita budget instead.

People who really just troll the Handheld, CoD games rocked on DS, and we also had Dementia which were fun.
I just think there should be one game that pushes the consosle and everyone else will follow suit.

The touchscreen is highly superior to stick controls, but the actual problem is simply holding the (3)DS itself.

Japan doesn't make a lot of them, 3DS' library is heavily Japanese.

Er, I mean, no right circle pad (just ignore the DS, PSP, N64, etc).

OP's right

Analog stick aiming sucks for shooters

it's a step up from arrow keys but that's about it
