Where do I begin with From Software's King's Field?

King's Field 2 is a good example of how the now-familiar From level design template was started. Lots of shortcuts and connecting areas that makes your mental map meet up in interesting ways. It's also a fun game to draw maps for!

I still have 10 pages of map from that game filled with note ah ah. I'm sure i will remember this game fondly even in a few years !

I see what you guys mean about slow movement, everything looks like its in slow motion, still eager to give it a try. I can imagine backtracking to be a little tedious at this speed.

You'll get use to it. It took me some time to. But I felt it was worth it. I found the whole series over all enjoyable. With the exception of 3, and even then it had a lot a moments I enjoyed.

I played King's Field II (/it was KF1 in the U.S.) as one of my first rentals after buying a PS1 and was eager to play my first 3-D or "next gen" RPG after being a huge Final Fantasy/Mana fan. I found it kind of clunky, unintuitive, hostile to the player. Once I realized that the Demon's/Dark Souls games were made by the same company and were huge hits along the same vein, I was a bit baffled, but for sure, there was something intriguing in the atmosphere of KF2. You probably get something worthwhile out of it if you're patient and don't expect the impossible for the hardware.

I tried to get into King's Field because of the Souls games too. I have a high tolerance for janky PS1 games but I just couldn't do it. I tried the first three and found them to be impossible to play these days even though I just played through the Armored Core PS1 trilogy for the first time last year and enjoyed that a lot.

You'll probably have better luck with the PS2 games but from what I hear, they're not great either. Maybe Shadow Tower? I also tried the King's Field games on PSP but couldn't get very far since they were only released in Japan and had a lot of text.

You don't hear about it because it's not very good frankly
Load of shit. The 4th game is great. The level design and atmosphere are up there with Demons Souls. So much of what makes the Souls games great have been present since their psx games. They didn't just magically appear when Miyazaki joined.

I got into King's Field after Demon's Souls hit. My first was 4, and while I loved the game, it took a long time to get used to the first person controls, and I've played everything since Catacombs Abyss.

Lots of neat ideas in that game, though. Amazing atmosphere and music.

Alrighty it's in my collection now GAF! I'll give it a shot later tonight
