Where does the Monster Hunter series go from here?

Does Nintendo retain the exclusivity after the upcoming 3DS version, with Capcom moving production to the Switch?

Alternatively, will Capcom make the series multiplatform with PC/PS4/XBO/Switch versions?

It will need to sell millions in japan regardless, so it's probably coming to Switch. I don't think it has to stay exclusive though.

Monster Hunter's success in Japan is largely driven by the portability. They could continue supporting Nintendo assuming that system has solid momentum in its first six months.

I'm tired of 3DS versions of Monster Hunter.

I spent the most time with the WiiU version.

I would buy it if it came out on PS4/Xbone. I would consider a Switch (not interested right now) if it came out for that.

GAFers whine for a Western-centric open world game that has practically nothing to do with the series.

Capcom, being an extremely unwise company, makes this and puts all of their eggs in that basket, then cancels the series completely when it bombs.

Whatever has the most multiplayer for Japan. So, ha ha, PC in Japan, hahahahahahahaha. Awww...

Also many more crossover specials. Hopefully SEGA"s Yakuza gets in there someday.

I'm hoping for Switch, so they can satisfy the portable base and I can play on my TV.

Capcom will probably put it on whatever device sells the hottest.

Monster Hunter GO coming in 2018

I swear we have this kind of thread every month now.

My answer is still PS4/Switch and a branched series. Portable on Switch, main on PS4.

The fact that there isn't a mobile Monster Hunter gatcha game already is what baffles me. What is that mobile division up to Capcom? Is that Breath of Fire game really that good?!

But seriously a mobile MH title where you are gatcha-ing weapons, and armor seems like a no brainier but different gameplay archetype to not cut into the sales of the main series.

Another 3DS entry followed by a revised G version of it on Switch.

You don't just abandon that install base.

The next main game is going to be on the Switch. Bet on it. Also the bolded...you do realize they literally did just that, right?

Because MH is a heavily controls based game and it would play like shit on mobile. Not even trashing mobile, but the game relies on precise complex controls. People complained when the 3DS version only had a single stick and a virtual second stick, imagine touch only

Every month? Its every week at this point. And if it is PS4/Switch I dont think they're going to split it between home/portable games anymore, it'll be one uniform multiplat.

First thing: change engine.

A new engine is absolutely necessary for a Switch release (or any modern platform release).

MH tech is old as fuck.

I swear we get a thread about that every two weeks or so ahah.
It's staying on Nintendo consoles whatever happens, keep having terrible MMO versions on other platforms, might get multiplat in the future, get spinoffs on popular platforms in japan (be it nintendo, mobile...). Or at least, that's usually what everyone can agree on without going into dumb speculation or terrible rumors.

Seeing MH on the Switch would be amazing, more so because I could potentially go back to using a pro controller, haha.

A western release for Monster Hunter Stories would be a pretty good start.

I wonder if they are planning on porting the game on the Switch.

I think Capcom is probably waiting to see how the Switch does before leaving the immensely popular 3DS. I'd love to see it be on Console/Portable again though. Really loved that about 3U.

What's the status of cross-network play on all the consoles?

I hope that if Monster Hunter goes multiplatform that the player base doesn't get too split.

Either they decide to jump to home consoles (PS4, with the Switch being the only one to offer local co-op with more consoles connected) or they'll go mobile.

A PS4 version might bring in a Vita one as well.

Capcom doesn't make many games without someone else footing at least part of the bill these days. Ninty will continue to pony up for Monster Hunter and keep it exclusive on Switch.

the switch to bad they wont drop support for the 3ds.
it makes sense.

But dropping the 3ds will mean they can go crazy with character/world/enemy design.

Dang, I thought this was gonna be about game design and not platforms. For platform, clearly Switch as long as it is successful.

Gameplay wise, I think they may go the open world or hub area and open area route. Maybe fewer locations but the locations will be bigger and have more variety for the arenas.

Technically both Nintendo and Sony are ok with it, but we all know it can be a lot more complicated than that (both on Sony/N sides, and on Capcom side as a dev and a pub).

More so than hardware choice, I just want to see where they go next, mechanic-wise.

I love the "Styles" and extra moves that X/XX bought to the table, but I wonder what else they can add on from there, such that it won't just seem like another nominal update on 4U.

They already did that with 4, people are constantly yelling these things at Monster Hunter circa 2009.

Retailer stating shipment of MHXX seems too low for 2mil target until end of March made me think it was going 3DS/Switch, until Nintendo revealed the release date..
Looking how little Capcom invested to WiiU, they dare to ignore the platform if it doesn't take off, regardless of how the platform holder's other device (in this case 3DS) is doing.

With that being said Switch seems to be the only platform to go if they are to keep current style (overworld build from area with connecting gates with p2p local multiplayer in mind).
I don't think they are that ambitious to change to Western open world style.

Oh is it this thread again?

Anywho it will go to whoever will pay for it and are relevant in japan. Unless they want to make a gamble for the west.
