Where is the hype for ps4 pro???

They need to explain the further benefits of the pro for 1080p rather than their fancy uprendered faux 4K resolution.

Itd be nice to have videos showing the difference for games that are releasing or going to be patched.
LMAO. It's 4K and upscaled 4K. What else do you need to know? Go to a Bestbuy and look at some 4K TV vs 1080p. That's the benefit of Pro.

For me the drive is getting replaced. So why would I want to pay for a 1TB HDD, when I could pay for just a 500GB HDD? That extra space does me no good if it's getting replaced anyway. I would rather they put in a 500GB drive, give us a UHD drive, and let the user decide if they want to go bigger, or they simply up the price from $399 to $449, give me a 2TB drive and give me a UHD drive too. For me, which I emphasize, this middle ground feels like I'm paying more for something I'm getting rid of anyway.

OK that makes sense then, apologies. I have the black ops 3 terabyte ps4 and it's more then enough room for me. So the pro will do just fine regarding space.

It's weird to me how people can't grasp that $100 is a big deal to a lot of people. That's 2 to 5 games alone.

Or 8~ or more pre owned games.

I respect that decision, not everyone needs or wants the latest high fi device as long as it still plays all the games.

PRo is like a gpu/cpu/hd upgrade for $100 on a pc.

You will see the same benefits you see on the pc for the same game.

You will get better graphics/frame rate/resolution and greater storage.

IT will help out VR lots because VR heavily taxes the PS4.

The Pro will be too underpowered to do 4k gaming except for the much less taxing games like simple 2d stuff. Even on the pc you really don't have true 4k gaming in today's AAA titles. Even with the high end single vid cards, the frame rates aren't that great yet.

The Pro will also be good for 4k streaming. If your tv is 10' away it probably isn't going to matter unless you have a pretty large tv (I'm thinking 70"+) or have a 4k projector. Even then, pic quality is more important than resolution. Comparing only resolutions on tv pics is sorta like comparing clothes from patagonia to those from Kohl's from 10' feet away.

Now the limitation, just like on pc, where 99% of gamers don't have GTX 1070's or better, is that your game has to work good on what the vast majority of people actually own if you want sales. And what the vast majority of people own in the Sony PS4 console word is the regular PS4. Not the Pro. So the Pro is only going to enhance an already solid game design on the regular PS4.

in the pc world, getting a big jump in gpu, plus 50% increase in cpu plus more hd space plus some 4k abilities for $100 is a complete bargain.

Thatt being said, there are benefits to the Slim. Some might want a smaller, quieter console. Don't game a ton. And are perfectly happy with not having the "best." In the pc world, I've upgraded my vid card over the years many times and many times it doesn't really seem like I received a big improvement for my troubles. IT might be hard to tell the difference. IT's also all relative. You get used to whatever you're looking at.

If $100 is that big of a deal, maybe a game console isn't a smart purchasing decision in the first place.
If you want to go down that path, there's probably a lot of people who shouldn't be buying games and there are also plenty of people not fully maximizing their experience because they don't buy everything to hit that bar under your criteria.

I'm generally excited for it, but I'm waiting until I get the NX and see where I'm at financially before I get one since I already own a launch model

Oh jesus christ. Don't go all fox news on us. You do realize that most people that buy these consoles only buy a few game a year with it, right? So yeah, that extra hundred bucks (plus the fact the slim is also being bundled with games) means something.

That person is essentially saying Sony is dumb for developing and releasing the Slim when nobody should buy it.

I think the Slim would have been a better decision a year ago, yes, and I think it makes more sense at a $200-$250 price point if you're going to go with it as opposed to the Pro.

I apologize if I came of disdainful of people's choices though, I understand there are situations where people want something, deserve to have it, but don't have the scratch to get the higher level version.

Yep, and much like you have stated I assume most people who haven't jumped in on this generation yet aren't looking to spend $400 on a console.

Except the ones like me who waited and been hoping for an upgrade. As a newcomer to this gen, saving 100$ is not worth it when you look at the specs. In my situation, ps4 pro is a no brainer.

From what I understand, the benefit of a PS4 Pro over the base model for me, 1080p user, is super-sampling and a potentially more stable framerate.

Super-sampling is basically better anti-aliasing, and as much as I like clean image quality, I'm not sure that better AA is enough to justify an extra hundred bucks.

I also don't think the performance differences will be too huge, since most PS4 games will target 30 fps and I doubt developers will suddenly allow games to perform horribly on the base model.

Those are my thoughts at this point - I look forward to seeing impressions after the release (there's no way I'm buying it before reading user impressions).

I just hope most games give the option of super sampling. I guess every game with pro support should be able to achieve this but I do worry that Sony will somehow make the super sampling route few and far between.

Does anyone know if the pro will be able to force super sampling on all games that render above 1080?

I, most honestly, see no reason at all to buy a Pro since I already have a PS4 and I haven't seen anything to suggest the experience will be superior enough to warrant the extra money you need to spend to get it.

On the pc the gpu difference cost you 40€, the hdd 10€ and the 30% faster cpu could/would just be done through over-clocking.

I asked this in an other thread, but no one really knows yet.
Maybe we will have to force the "4k" setting (for a 1080p panel) in the output video options of the PRO, instead of "Auto". And we'll have a 1080p downscaled or supersampled in the 1080p panel.

But it's just a theory. Sony didn't say a shit about the matter.

I wake up, see this thread title, and since I am wondering the same thing I think this will be a very relevant discussion.

Welp, time to go back to sleep, then!

I have already started saving for this, but I have to admit that I am not totally sold on it.

If this could turn many 1080p/30fps games into 1080p/60fps then I would be all over it, but that doesn't appear to be the case. 4K/30fps just doesn't do much for me.

However, what has gotten me enthusiastic is the fact that it will utilize SATA3. If games can take advantage of the speed increase then it will be excellent.

Thanks for the reply, that theory makes sense.

It's a shame Sony can't confirm this though. The table they have on the pro FAQ regarding display settings is near useless.

It would be nice if the 1080 "enhanced" mode would feature a few graphical enhancements such as shadows/textures with as much super sampling as the game can take (obviously not 4k but say 1440p) whilst maintaining an acceptable frame rate.

It's in Germany I guess

PS4 Pro sold out for the first time at the largest online retailer

Few weeks before the launch of the new PS4 Pro, the available units seem to be coming to an end. At least the high-end console is no longer available at the largest online retailer Amazon.

This is the first time ever, that since the announcement in September can give no regular pre-order more and you really have to look elsewhere for it. Whether this is only a temporary condition or the same scenario as at that time with the regular PS4 or currently also PlayStation VR enters, will be still show. It could be understood as a warning shot, however, that here the available quantities are not unlimited and one stands for the launch and the weeks afterwards without console. As a result of the situation, the situation for the Christmas business is still picking up.
