Sorry for bumping but I just found out this game is coming to pc as a windows live game, I hope we get a demo soon so I can test it at 60fps on my rig.

For as much potential as the Wii version had, Dirt 2 just ends up being a letdown, especially when the package boils down to being a port/crossover of the PSP offering that Sony fans are getting. The visuals are sub-par, and while the sense of speed is there you wonÂ’t find any serious customization, or reason to go back and race any of the tracks in the gameÂ’s linear career mode. You go one by one through races, beat them, and move on, and while there were times when the racing felt tight and responsive, those moments were few and far between. Two player splitscreen is included for players that want to go head-to-head with friends, but thereÂ’s no sort of online integration, and with a career mode thatÂ’s a basic as Dirt 2 youÂ’ll be looking for a new racer within an hour or so of play. ThereÂ’s serious potential in a racer with this much sense of speed and the power of the Dirt 2 branding (licensed cars, X-Games, famous names in rally racing) but the Wii version unfortunately misses the mark. Hopefully weÂ’ll see another attempt down the line with more attention given to the Wii audience, as this game is Dirt 2 in name alone. If you own a DS, pick it up for NintendoÂ’s handheld. All other serious racers will want to splurge for the 360/PS3 versions if thatÂ’s an option, or wait on our final verdict for Need for Speed Nitro coming in the next couple months.
painey said:its good, but the floaty driving is worse than dirt 1 (more like grid) and braking is almost redundant on some cars.

I agree, for the most part. There doesn't seem to be enough rallying. Could've skipped gatecrasher and put in more of that instead. Pretty much my only complaint so far, but it's a bummer.Kaijima said:Just got it, am blown away. Everything good from Dirt retained, the bad stuff is gone, and it is smeared with a glossy coat of the polish Codemasters refined with Grid.
Along with Bizarre, Codemasters is now my favorite racing dev this gen.

Mohonky said:Then the handling, theres something about it thats annoying me. When a car slides, it has a tendency to just keep sliding off the side of the track, the only way to really pull the car back in seems to be wrenching on the handbrake and coming to a near complete stop; either way you won't really be powersliding around the corner, too shallow and you just slide off the track or you turn the car 180 to a virtual stand and start accelerating from first again. Not really helped by the shit track selection.

I liked that DiRT had some non-rally races with buggies and what not and I enjoy them in this game but the WRC side of things is virtually non-existent, it's as though it's been completely Americanised with all this X Games bullshit. Few point to point races, real lack of variety in tracks and environments.

I dunno I still like the game but it definitely seems a step back from the original which seemed to mix WRC style point to point rallying with off road Raids very well, this one just gets in your face with it's X Games extreme off roading bullshit and seems to have little to do with any form of rallying.
I hope for the next one Codemasters dump this 'Pro Street' style menu system and X Games style crap and return to a more WRC orientated title, this one just smacks of selling out.

The entire game seems to have been "Mountain Dew"d, which I'm not a fan of. The car selection seems very sparse, and the events and tracks aren't as interesting and seem more repetitive. I'm also not a fan of the rewind feature. That, along with the ability to just instantly restart a race, takes a lot away from the difficulty and tension.
Like I said, I'm mostly enjoying it, but I still can't help to pine for the brutal hill climbs or the long range point-to-point tracks of the first game.
Car handling is about what you'd expect from Codemasters - arcadey goodness.
Choc said:Much more rallying then expected, codemasters only said 20% of it is rally but they must not be counting trailblazer which really is rally up hill
op_ivy said:what percent would you say it is?
also, any chance you can list the number of rally/trailblazer stages?
