so,after all the plus games i found i have no space left on my PS3,so i decide to delete many games, my PS3 has 320 GB ( it's actually 298GB)

but i still see i have 73 GB

so i decide to rebuild my database,and calculate every game i have on my HDD, i have about 161814 MB = 158 GB(installed games) + 73 GB(empty space) =231 GB
so there is now 67 GB of lost space,where is it?

update:
i just checked all DLC and game install and patch sizes on my PS3 and it was 31514 mb = 30GB
so there is 36GB of lost data.

maybe system will take 8-10GB?
still there is more then 25 GB of lost data space.

Check your save games/games data? I remember MGS4 would install huge chunks of data and they were stored there.

no way mt save data can take all that, i don't save that often,i think the size will be less then 1GB max.

about MGS4 install data, you were right, it's 9457 mb.

The OS is stored on a flash chip and a backup is kept on the HDD, that was i've been told.

PS OS reserves a % of your hdd based on the size... at least that's what I remember reading.

how much the percentage?
the 12GB super slim PS3 , how much space the system take from it?

edit: found the answer here

I put a 1TB Samsung harddrive in my PS3 this evening. After booting it up with Firmware 4.41, I get the following:

Free Space 828GB / 931 GB

931GB is what I would expect as the maximum size of a 1TB drive, but look at the freespace! This means about 100GB has gone before I've even started.

It seems the PS3 OS reserves about 10% of the disk, regardless of how big the OS itself is.

wow, 10% of the HDD? that is greedy.

i also found the PS Vita has the same problem,i have 64GB memory.it's actually 59GB , but there is 1,2 GB is located in the system memory,WTF!

Prolly all those free PS+ games.

already did that for the most of them,but just like Voodoo3_2K said, the OS take percantage of the disk space

did some researching found this info:

80GB = 64/74GB (10GB reserved)
160GB = 130/149GB (19GB reserved)
200GB = 167/186GB (19GB reserved)
250GB = 205/232GB (27GB reserved)
320GB = 263/298GB (35GB reserved)
500GB = 413/465GB (52GB reserved)
1 TB = 828/931GB (103GB reserved)

wow, 35GB for the system? just...wow.

why the PS3 OS system take all that space?
