I was sitting here thinking about games I used to love on my past systems that I know Ill never see another sequal to because A. They butchered the license or B. Its just not gonna happen. :<. This is my list.

Chu Chu Rocket
Power Stone
Crazy Taxi (the first and some of the second)
Jet Set Radio
Shenm.... no not really.
Nights
Road Rash
Ultima Online (not the piece of shit mini release they make you buy for 20 bucks and dickhole new additions before they fix the old shit... fuckers.)
Bomberman not the same old rehash shit (good shit it is though) ... but maybe taking it a new direction.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.. but it makes my pants wet thinking about things I could have :<.

They've tried different things with Bomberman plenty and people just bitch about it not being like the original.

I'm ambivalent about sequels... I think it's time that those who don't, embrace the teams that have created these instead of asking or expecting them to churn out sequel after sequel until a franchise becomes banal.

I mean, as much as I would love to see NiGHTS 2, the fact that the Saturn version was the only full version ever, keeps it unique and special.

Yes, there are many exceptions to this, but I didn't think Katamari Damacy needed these sequels, and neither did Viewtiful Joe. I'm glad that the Ico team didn't just churn out a direct sequel (although sure, there's a part of me that wanted to see what happened after that ending), and I love that the Gitaroo Man team created something cool and fresh in Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. When teams are allowed to do something different, that's when you end up with stuff like Rez. I'd much rather see games like that from talented teams instead of iterative titles with a couple new features.

Of course, I'm sitting here playing Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy IV, and beatmania IIDX 10th Style right now. :lol

Yearly updates can bite me. If there is something new to be said about a game concept after generation or whatever has passed then I'm all for it.

Unless it's for the 6th time.

Chu Chu Rocket - Won't happen
Power Stone - Won't happen, sadly
Crazy Taxi - Probably one day, or at least a remake.
Jet Set Radio - Unlikely
Shenm.... haha, no
Nights - not in a million years
Road Rash - Good question. You'd think EA would have picked up on that one.
Ultima Online - I'm sure there'll be another one of these
Bomberman - Bomerman will always be around. I wouldn't count on any 'bold' new directions, though.

I personally want another classic 2D side-scrolling MEGA MAN(not X) game.

The PSP remake is intriguing though.

Chu Chu Rocket - No Clue

Power Stone - The director is busy directing DMC4. (hideaki itsuno)

Crazy Taxi (the first and some of the second) - Last I heard was the dev team split up or something they formed Team Sonic or some shit.

Jet Set Radio - Didn't this bomb?
Shenm.... no not really. :lol :lol :lol

Nights - Sales Bomb

Road Rash - You got me on this one.

As an aside, even though we've had GREAT motorcycle games (like the MotoGP series from Climax/THQ), I think the next couple years will see a FLOOD of motorcycle titles, if Tourist Trophy from Polyphony Digital/SCE does for bikes what they did for cars. From there, I think we'll see more sims, but also a renaissance in more arcade-like games (like the Hang-On series, Enduro Racer, Excite Bike, etc.), and then ones that go for all-out speed and action, which is where Road Rash comes in. It'd be kinda cool seeing the Burnout team do a bike game for next-gen.

Can someone find the numbers for NiGHTS? All I know is it made a big stink when it knocked Mario 64 off the #1 JP sales spot, but I think that was only for a week.

As for me, I'll take a NiGHTS 2 and a sequel to Kya: Dark Lineage.

Bomberman Generations and Jetters did kinda take the series in a new direction with their single-player adventure modes...it just wasn't a particually good direction.

Megaman 9, X9, Z5 and EXE7 now plz thx

And thrown in Network Transmission 2 and Legends 3 on the side... thx!

Beyond Good & Evil 2 - Despite it bombing

Jet Set Radio Retro - 70s for the win!

Rygar 2 - But with good voice actors, and maybe a story that makes sense.

There's no good reason for anything like Rez to exist.
That aside, sequels are a mixed bag, most of them being in name only for the sake of a franchise, which isn't all that bad.

All of my friends would freaking love a new Road Rash. That game was so damn awesome.

With all of the advanced physics and rag-doll going on in games today, I can only imagine how incredibly satisfying the combat and crashes could look. I used to cringe at some of the horrible things that would happen to the riders even in the crude Genesis versions.

Oh, and add Bionic Commando, The Immortal and Silent Bomber to the list.
