Which 4K Monitor would be ideal for PS4 Pro?

Even though I'm having side jobs in the game industry, I never really cared too much about the display I use for testing or playing games. During the PS3/360 era a 720p TV was good enough, switched to a ASUS VE278Q 27" 1080p monitor for the PS4 and thanks to the PS4P there's a good reason to purchase a good old 4K monitor (I don't like TVs for gaming).
Is there any solid 4K monitor on the market? Curved or flat? How big should the display be if I sit rather close to it? Anything else I have to look out for, except HDR?

None. Afaik there are no 16:9 monitors which support 4K and HDR at this time. 4K TVs are the best option right now for the PS4 Pro.

Any 4k monitor will do.

I don't know how many HDR monitors there are available now.

Don't bother with anything over 60hz, the PS4 won't take advantage of anything higher than that.

So, the cheapest you can find (if you can find one that supports HDR; but they should be coming since Pascal cards also support HDR).

Tks for the replies...

I'm waiting for a 55 in 4K TV with HDR for around $500-$600 myself.

Hope I won't have to wait that long

There are no 4K HDR monitors yet afaik so... either hold out or research if there is any small 4K HDR TV out there. I don't think so however.

Considering that the latest generation of GPUs (Pascal/Polaris) also support HDR, there might be some in the pipeline but I don't think manufacturers have shown anything yet.

As a news source I recommend following http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news.htm/ unless you already happen to do so.

Subbed, I also play on my monitor since I see no reason to own a TV anymore. Until I can find a 4k HDR monitor with a good screen I don't see any reason to get any HDR console.

Actually I take back my statement. There are 4k HDR monitors, just only big ones. The Vizio P series are technically not TVs. They are monitors.

Something else to consider: since 4k on Neo is really more of 2k upscaled, wouldn't a compatible 1440p monitor make more sense? (Cheaper and usually faster and with less input lag)

I would assume that PS4Pro will not detect or adapt to any resolutions besides 1920x1080 and 3840x2160 so depending on how the whole option stuff works, you might not be able to pick the 4K* option to let your monitor handle the downscaling.

Costco has the Samsung 28in 4K monitor for 330. I'm not sure if monitors will ever HDR. What's the chance of monitors getting HDR? And what are the chances of a 32 in 4K HDR set?

Stick with a 1080p display and enjoy the better framerate/graphics.

Upgrade when good 4K HDR sets start to drop.

I have a Samsung 28 inch 4k monitor. I like it.

It upscales well too. Playing 1080p native games on it and it looks great. PS4 Pro should obviously do better since it's outputting far more pixels.

Anything new on the monitor front? I'm looking to buy a 4k monitor soon mostly for PS4 Pro, though I would like it to look good with a regular Xbox One, as in simple fast scaling, no input lag, that sort of thing. I guess HDR still isn't a thing for monitors, but I'll live. Have any of the media with early consoles reported on what happens if you plug it into a 1440p monitor? I'm assuming Titanfall 2 for instance at best would render its 1440p (as that's what the game reportedly renders at), scale up to 4k and then back down to 1440p for a mediocre result.

I guess I'm probably going to use it on a 1080p screen until it's out in the wild and there's a bit more info to go on.

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Samsung U28E850R 4K monitor for use for my Pro + PC, And originally was going to cancel it due to finding out afterwards Pros could be weird with monitors with less than 2.2 HDCP, but then found you can set it to HDCP 1.4 in the settings.

Been trying it for a few days, because I'm still on the fence about returning it or not.
I'm impressed with it on Horizon where I do notice the 4K difference, admittedly most of the time I've been on Yakuza 0 which is probably not the best game to judge 4K ha ha.

Now lately I've been leaning more towards keeping it, but now since yesterday, I've noticed shortly after booting the PS4, the monitor will flicker to a black screen, then to a static fuzzy screen, and then back to PS4.
After that everything is back to normal and doesn't seem to happen again until you boot it. Anyone have any idea what that might be?

Also does anyone have an opinion on the monitor? Like I'm not sure whether to just wait for my "dream monitor", which would be 4K/HDR/Gsync/144Hz/Swivel+Pivot/HDCP2.2, but I also ideally wouldn't want to spend more than £400, maybe £500 max, so I imagine that would be years away.

Thanks

Is 4k on a 27inch screen even noticable?

I can say yes to that too.

And I should state for my set up, a 40" TV just couldn't fit here ha ha, so 30" > really, though I understand it looks like 4K Tv's are offering more for less which do make them more tempting.

And for me, I'm upgrading from a 21" cheap as I could find-1080P monitor basically, so maybe the differences are bigger for me due to that.

My PS4P is still connected to a 24 inch 1 MS 1080P TN panel and it's pretty much OK for now. I'm holding out for a <500 euro 27 inch sub 5 MS 4K monitor with HDR support to hit. (so many acronyms when discussing monitors/tv's these days!)

Since you look at them so close, yes, you differences on even smaller screens, look at smartphones. Personally, I can easily my almost 4K 13.3" Dell XPS 13 screen is more crisp and clearer than my 27" 4K.

Smallest TV with a proper HDR10 are 40" Panasonics (40ex700/604)
Depends on your personal preference, if that is too big for you or not. Price: 600-800€ in Europe.

I switched to a cheapest 24" 4K monitor a year ago (Acer) and regret nothing, high DPI is lovely. Had several problems with an old software at first, but now everyone I care updated, so no problems with UI scaling anymore.

EDIT: Oh, wait, there is a HDR 4K Monitor already, Benq SW320 with 31.5". Technicolor calibrated, marketed for profi photographers, costs around 1400€ in Germany.

I would love a Vizio. But not sold in Europe! And importing a 65 inch tv from the states isn't really practical...

I tried it out with HZD. You end up with an image that is internally rendered at 2160c than downscaled to 1080p by the pro and than upscaled to 1440p by your monitor because the pro doesn't allow for a native 1440p output for whatever stupid reason and only outputs in 1080p. It doesn't look good.

Hey guys,

Been enjoying my Samsung U28E850R 4K monitor for the most part.
There is one thing that is annoying me though and not sure there's really a way to fix it.

Bizarrely shortly after booting the PS4 Pro, I'll get it cut to a black screen briefly, then to a static screen a few times with static "lines" appearing on the game screen a few times before it happens, then it never seems to happen again until after a fresh boot again.

Now with my Pro it's currently going through the PSVR box, which I've read could be causing issues, but my monitor isn't HDR. I've seen people recommend new HDMI 2.0 cables too, but I am using the cables I got with the PSVR and Pro.

Anyone encountered these issues and found a way to fix them?

Thanks
