Which Call of Duties to play and avoid?

I cant believe you guys are saying MW2.. game was such utter garbage. Story had me laughing my ass off it was so bad.

Honestly 2 and 4 are the only ones worth checking out and that is just to see a bit of videogame history.. the games that ruined FPS for a generation.

isn't the general idea with all military online fps

'play latest, forget rest' ?

Aaaand here come the waterworks. It's a wonder we lasted this long without the stupidity, tbqh.

MW2 had one of the shortest, most uneventful SP's ever. It's going to take more than a controversial "shooting up citizens" scene to change my mind.

Do yourself a favor and play the Mass Effect series.

I actually did play those, it was the only console series I played during that time. All of them, right up to 3 as I'm about to go on the final missions, my friend was playing the ending stage when I came home one night. I was glued to the set but horrified at the same time. Afterwords I googled the endings and saw how little choices I made mattered and pretty much dropped the game after that.

MW2's campaign is my most-played. Three play-throughs, once on veteran. Enjoyed the multi the most as well.

This is all IMO.

MW1 deserves a play-through.
MW2 as well
MW3...well..if you absolutely must know what happens next. It's totally dumb fun but mechanically it's not as solid as the previous MW entries.

Didn't play WaW.
Couldn't get through Black Ops campaign. Didn't really like it.

Didn't play BO2/Ghosts.

Even for just the single player, COD 4 is worth playing. Not sure if the multiplayer is active at all these days. I'd imagine some people still play it.

Like others said, CoD 4: Modern Warfare is the must play. If you have a mate to play with I'd recommend Spec Ops in MW2 its real fun.

MW - Game changer for better or worse, you must play at least once. Simply that good.

MW2 - Despite how utterly broken it was on the MP side of things (still is?), this was by far the most fun I had with a CoD game. The maps are the series best IMHO.

MW3 - Like X2 going into The Last Stand, you can't help but wonder how much better it could've been had the original director(s) still been there.

Haven't touched CoD after that, but from what I gather, Treyarch is THE studio for decent CoD games now.

4 and both Black Ops are worth a spin. Anyone who recommends MW2 or MW3 is a clown, they're both bad.
BlOps is a poorly optimised, badly told, disjointed mess. It's awful. BlOps 2 wasn't much better, and had those awful strike missions. I really don't dig WaW, it felt like a war of attrition.

MW trilogy OP, seriously, best CoD you can play. Don't listen to the MW2&3 haters, they clearly smoke crack on the regular.

The MW series and CoD4 definitely, though I'm not gonna lie, it was one of the first to do the whole "blockbuster war thriller" thing that all Modern FPSs do today but don't let anyone make you think it's the height of perfection. Lots of annoying sections of endless swarms of perfect aiming enemies that don't stop coming till you cross a certain line but plenty of levels that will impress the fuck out of you (the MacMillan or Death from Above parts)

MW2 is when the story gets really silly but it's kind of cool to see a lot of Washington DC iconography get shat on and it was fun fighting through the White House. + Makarov is fun to hate.

MW3 was not fun at all for me and a complete chore, only worth it to see the end of the series which isn't that great but you'll probably want to finish it for the conclusion of the MW series.

I've only played BLOPS 2's SP and it didn't impress me much. The gameplay has interesting concepts but I still thought it was pretty tedious and the story seemed pretty ridiculous to me but maybe that's because I didn't play BLOPS 1. I liked the way it weaves a lot of history and conspiracy stuff into it's story though.

Ghosts is really short, but I actually liked the story and the gameplay. Actually looking forward to it's sequel just for the story.

If you ever do dip into MP though....

MW2: Absolutely unbalanced and broken but SO much fun when it all clicks. Chances are the only people playing it now are hardcore fans and will probably tear your ass in two though.

BLOPS 2: Very balanced and easy to work with maps. Probably the least frustrating out of all the CoDs if your new.

Don't play MW2. It's laughably bad, over the top and forgets completely what made MW1 a genuinely enjoyable experience.

The only good ones were

Cod 4
World at War
Black Ops 1

The rest were shit.

My man. Overall, besides MW1, the Infinity Ward ones tend to be more over the top and ridiculous.

1, 2, 4, World at War, Black Ops are fun.

The rest just didn't do much for the series. World at War is even mediocre but it's the last of the WWII shooters for the series.

World at War and Black Ops 1 are the only 2 I can go back to, the rest are either just stupid plotwise, or irritating to play and way too linear, even by COD standards (looking at you, BLOPS2).

Black Ops 1

Pretty much.

None of them are worth playing, if you want to play a good call of duty game play medal of honor Allied Assault (and even that has the horrible whack a mole shooting galleries, but at least the shooting is better)

You're a clown for thinking mw2 is bad.

And you have your head up your ass if you think CoD4 is bad.

Weird, I haven't played a great deal of the Blops 2 Campaign, but I recall there being some surprisingly large areas in one of the beginning levels. You were on a horse in the desert that you dismount and stuff.

Ghosts is my favourite after COD4. Not even joking.

I'm curious as to why. I've skipped on the past two Call of Duty's, but I'm pretty disappointed with the multiplayer in Ghosts, and the campaign is a little too goofy, even for me. Extinction is pretty great though.

Yeah, it had some large areas. But in the first mission if you didn't follow the Buffel fast enough, mission failed. Too many examples of shit like that in the game. It was basically a very long QTE with some shooting sections in most of the future missions.

Campaign-wise, 4, MW2, and BLOPS2 range from "legitimately great" to "popcorn fun."

MW, MW2, and Black Ops.

MW2 was the start of out-Baying Michael Bay, so I think it's ok to experience it once. I liked the campaigns of MW and Black Ops. But once you play all these you can stop because everything else is just a derivative of the previous game.

Agree with both of these. MW2 gets bashed unfairly, but it was incredibly ambitious and did things with the Spec Ops mode that developers gave up on because they couldn't match what OG Infinity Ward did. MW2 is a fantastic Michael Bay game, and imo, the franchise is over after that. MW3, WaW, and Blops don't compare...

Black Ops is okay if only because there aren't all that many FPS set in Vietnam. 4 is one of the best games of the generation, and personally I think WaW is one of the best WW2 FPS.

So that's three of them. Three is plenty.

The only COD campaign I've ever genuinely really disliked is COD3 and that's because it's very sloppily put together and feels rushed, that Treyarch were only given 8 months to make it really shows.

The others I all enjoy though some moreso than others.

For me it would be:

COD2>United Offensive>COD1>MW>WaW>BLOPS>BLOPS2>MW2>Ghosts>MW3>Shitpile>COD3
