Which company has actually not fallen from grace?

Naughty Dog
Bungie
Valve
Rockstar North
Nintendo EAD
SSM

also people saying platinum they have made 1 great game 2 good game and 2 bad games and how can they fall from theg race when they have just started

I love how people are posting From Software even though they made Steel Battalion Kinect.

Anyways, I really couldn't give a shit about a developers legacy. All I care about is if they make a quality game. A few bad apples don't bother me.

From Software.
They clearly have a large pool of influences, but they're most prominent influence is themselves, they're own vision for the Souls games. Not to mention defining "hardcore console gaming" for me with "King's Field".
Sodamngood.

Tell Tale Games have made some of the best adventure games this gen including Sam and Max, The Walking Dead, and Tales of Monkey Island.
Thatgamecompany has also been on a roll with Journey and Flower.

Don't see how anyone can say anything but Nintendo, especially when looking at the 3DSs software output from this year alone.

Platinum, Bethesda is doing pretty good, CD Project isnt that old but they are a bunch of cool dudes and Valve though a lack of Half-Life 3 releases is a bit of a falling grace. *hint hiNT HINT!*

Nintendo software wise is still a Monster and 90% of the games they do are gold.

Nintendo continues to make questionable business decisions, but that is hardly anything new.

In terms of software, they're still top-notch developers. I can't think of any company that can match their level of output of high quality games.

I have to wonder what fantasy land you all like in, as it definitely seems like a much better reality than what I live in. Ninty only released 2 great games last gen (Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2) and everything else they put out has been mediocre at best, with almost every new entry in a given franchise being noticeably inferior to their previous output. Face it, Nintendo's golden years are over.

Xenoblade Chronicles? Mario Kart DS? Soma Bringer? Pokemon Black/White? Super Smash Bros Brawl? Advance Wars Dark Conflict? Metroid Prime 3? Punch-Out? DKCR? Skyward Sword?

While a few of those were divisive, I fail to see how any of those are 'mediocre at best'. I personally love every single one of them.

Nintendo is still doing a killing as a publisher and their subsidaries, but when people mention EAD Nintendo, I have to wonder.

Also Pokemon Black/White was inferior just on the horrid Pokemon designs.

The almighty Rockstar haven't ever put a foot wrong in my eyes (I haven't played Manhunt 2, okay?). GTA IV, RDR and MP3 are some of my all-time favourites and I cannot wait for all of their sequels.

Hats off to Valve, too; they have a legacy of top-notch and original games under their belt. They also know what gamers want... hats, apparently.

Forgetting Urban Chaos for a moment, the Batman output of Rocksteady Studios is amazing simply because they got it so very right. Personally, I cannot wait to see what they do next.

Platinum have a few misses (Anarchy Reigns, MadWorld, Vanquish *ducks*) but maintain a good rep in my house. MGR and Bayonetta were both pretty spectacular.

Arkane, Klei Entertainment, Bethesda Softworks, Obsidian, Kojima Pro and Irrational Games also have my undivided attention, even if they have had a few missteps here and there.

I'd also like to say FROM Software for the Souls series; however, they did make an awful, awful mess of Tenchu, which was always one of my favourites. Dark Souls II may make me forgive them for that... :P

That's all I can think of.

You're vastly overestimating how widespread your tastes are.

I normally wouldn't use Metacritic as a measure of quality, but it's a quick and dirty method to get an idea of the general consensus. Nintendo has had over 80 games rated over 80+ and over 20 rated 90+ since the Wii released. For me personally, I could list at least a dozen games between Wii and DS that I thought were great and it's not even where I primarily play games (that would be PC). They've had plenty of games that were critically acclaimed and very popular, forum bickering aside, so this "fantasy land" is a hell of a lot more populated than you seem to think.

I don't know what criteria you're using to judge their games, but if Galaxy is the only thing that meets it, you're pretty far out of line with the general audience.

Not a fan of gigantic lists, so my advise to you simply is: go play Rhythm Heaven Fever and feel bad about your post.

If a developer can provide 1 game I like within a span of 1-3 years, they have not "fallen from grace". So naturally that would include a lot of the companies that people never shut up about on GAF. Probably best if I didn't name any.

Bioware.

Now really, Valve is still top-tier with a flawless track-record.
Nintendo while struggling financial is still in top form in terms of quality.
Rockstar and Irrational games are still at the top of their game.
Naughty Dog is always on the rise it seems.
Kojima and Team (though I don't know how much of it has changed through times) are still within people's expectation.

More like #TeamRE6wasTHATgood. Relatively speaking Capcom can put out good games, at least as many as most western pubs, even if I don't love them all. Even some of the games that get vilified are fine by me. Like DmC was surprisingly competent and more good than bad (I was left thinking about what hurt it, rather than desperately looking for redeeming qualities, if that makes sense). And that's them going with the worst case scenario. I'm thinking more along the lines of Konami and Sega who are making fewer and fewer games it feels like. They can still put out titles I really like, among the best of their respective year, so I'm not saying they fell from grace (or rather, adding them to a larger narrative where everyone has fallen from grace but some 3-5 companies).

Agree. And actually I don't even care if DmC is complete garbage (not saying it is or is not, simply haven't followed it), there were games like Azuras Wrath, Dragon's Dogma and fricking Monster Hunter all released last year, which don't get the praise they deserve. Hell, quality wise the latter two destroy everything the big three western pubs released last year (inb4 DD framerate argument).
One can argue that they lost a lot of talent over the years and make shitty business moves, but in my book they still deliver and are easily in my top 5 dev/pub list.
