Which console has gotten the greatest share of new IPs so far this gen?

Vieo

Which console (excluding handhelds, I'm talking about PS3, 360, and Wii) has gotten the greatest share of new IPs so far this gen?

Do you mean number of new IPs, sales on new IPs, or what? I'd have to say it's between the 360 and PS3 for the former (Assassin's Creed, Bioshock and many others for both of them, difference split by Gears, Resistance, Motorstorm, etc.), guaranteed Wii for the latter.

Most of it is multiplat (on PS3 and 360)

For all intents and purposes, it really comes down to Uncharted and Resistance vs. Mass Effect and Gears of War

I would've slipped Bioshock in there, but it just jumped the fence it seems

New IPs I don't care about: Wii
who gives a shit what you care about.

answer the question. It's still 360, so don't bring that shit in here.

Counting shovelware then the Wii by far. Not counting shovelware then I'd say 360.
this.

A big amount of Wii shovelware are ports of PS2 shovelware, so it could be close. Anyway, if you only count big, well-known new IP, it is definitely not the Wii.

Definitely Wii, unless you are talking about quality new IP's.

Ditto. Do you mean IPs you care about or just sheer numbers?

While on this topic, I do have a question for GAF. Looking at say PES, or the new upcoming Shaun White Snowboarding, the PS3/360 versions are same for all intents and purposes, while the Wii gets waggle features to make up for lack of HD. Would it be considered a exclusive game for Wii but multiplatfrom for the other two? Or just a multiplatfrom across the board?

I'm not sure if the Wii's got more brandnew IPs than the 360 so far, but I'm pretty sure the Wii will have more new IPs than the amount of the two other consoles combined in the end of this gen.

In this case usually the Wii version if just a copy of the last gen version. For example, if GamecompanyX released GameX for the Wii, PS2, PS3, and 360 the PS2 and Wii version would probably be identical except for the waggle features. So definitely multiplatform.

What if a last-gen version isn't released?

Wii has very few third party sequels to existing franchises. If it's third party on the Wii it's likely either a new IP or a port/remake of an existing game. Really remarkable considering how much the industry in general depends on sequels.

I'd agree with "360 if we don't count shovelware, Wii if we do count shovelware".

Wii does have a lot of new IPs, I'd say more than 360. It even has a lot of big ones depending on what your would define as "new." Sonic and Mario sold and ton and so did Super Paper Mario. You even have crap like Carnival games that sold over a million. 360 might just barely edge it out though. As for biggest new IPs it's still Wii: WiiSports, WiiPlay and soon to be WiiFit.

If you're including shovel ware then its the Wii, if not then the 360.

I would assume this is going to change in the future though, with the amount of studio's Sony owns and many of them working on new IP's it should shift to Sony in the coming years.

Boom Blox, Zack & Wiki, Excite Truck, I'd say Wii wins this one.

but then you have Skate, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Too Human, Viva Pinata, Assassins Creed, Dark Sector, Condemned, etc for 360

Off the top of my head I would have to say overall (including the not so great games) it's Wii obviously, but 360 for games with effort put behind them

PS3 imo

Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Motorstorm, Folklore, Lair, Eye of Judgement, *cough Haze cough*, Warhawk (well it's sorta new being just online and all)

Just listed exclusives already out

If you're gonna *cough* do it around Lair. And no being online does not make Warhawk a new IP.

Assassins Creed & Dark Sector are available on the PS3, I'll give you Bioshock though because the PS3 version won't release till a year after the 360 version.

But it was remade from the ground up, and is for the most part a completley different game than the PS version. But I guess technically it isn't a new IP.

I would guess the one that was out a year longer(360)... but then again maybe it's the one that is going to share very few ports(Wii).

I think you're going to be stretching the definition of new quite a lot to include Sonic and Mario and Paper Mario.

Warhawk shares a name with an old game and isn't new IP but isn't Bioshock a spiritual successor to Systemshock? I haven't played it so I can't be sure but is there any credit to it only being a new ip because of Lawyer ball?

I think you're right. I've never played Systemshock either, but I have heard that mentioned before when it comes to Bioshock.

There was someone keeping a list of this awhile back and the Wii overtook both the other consoles in terms of new IPs awhile ago (unless I'm recalling incorrectly). Most of them are shit of course.

It'd be like adding GRAW or RS:Vegas to the 360 lineup. It's not stretching since they have potential to be their own satallite franchises. But if we are talking about series with no pre-existing characters then we can throw those out.

Your comparison would make it seem like PS3+PC FTW. :D

That is mostly the correct answer :D . Especially if you have access to a X360 at a friends house or something for those games not on PC. But otherwise, its much better than owning both X360 and PS3 and PC, or X360/PC. ALthough without a good PC... story is all differnet.

And lets not forget Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Cry On, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Perfect Dark is a new IP for the 360, Banjo & Kazzooie, Eternal Sonata {its still only on the 360 mind you until the PS3 fabled release]

New means NEW, so no Perfect Dark or Banjo. Those are Revived IPs.

Lost Planet is now on the PS3 as well, I don't think we really have to resort to lists either.

Its prett well been established.....

1. Wii - because of shovelware
2. 360 - because of the year head start
3. PS3 - slow to get going, but the number of studios they own that are working on new IP's should make them #1 in the next couple of years (though the Wii shovelware comes out like crazy)
