• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Which game have you purchased the most?

It's probably Super Metroid for me! To be fair, I love that game to bits and wanted to collect all its different versions!

My collection includes:

- SNES (PAL/US/JP)
- Wii Virtual Console
- Wii U Virtual Console

I have like 9 versions of RE:CVx

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus

SotC
- US PS2
- UK PS2 (LE version) x2
- Japanese PS2
- PS3 HD Collection x2 (worked for Sony, was given free copy)
- PS3 HD Japanese LE HD Collection

Ico
- US PS2
- UK PS2
- PS3 HD Collection x2 (worked for Sony, was given free copy)
- PS3 HD Japanese LE HD Collection

Dark Souls
- UK PS3 LE
- UK PS3 PTDE
- UK PC PTDE x2

Sigh

I bought like 8 or 9 copies of Final Fantasy VII back when it was in stores for like $20.

I wasn't even that big of a fan of the game. I just somehow kept losing the instruction manual and that annoyed me enough to go buy another copy.

(I was not the responsible kind of 13 year old.)

Steins;gate. I love that story so much that I bought it on psp, iOS, ps3, vita, and before I got the vita I had gotten the digital psp version via the Umd passport price on psn. It's a bit silly to buy so many copies but for this game I just had to get it on everything I could. Also had I had a Japanese Xbox I would've bought it on there too.

Unreal Tournament. Original release. GOTY release. Totally Unreal release. A few other times because i lost the discs i loaned out.

The Metal Gear games probably. I've been buying and selling all the different collections that have been coming out. Will also buy the new Legacy collection. :)

Resident Evil 1 is my most bought and played game. PS1, cube, DS, PC. I very very rarely go through a game twice, but I counted finishing this 4 times on DS alone. I got RE 1 near its PS1 launch and consider that mansion a second home.

I have bought PES every year for at least a decade now.

I'm also going to have to go with Duke Nukem 3D. Bought that for Saturn, N64, PS1, 360, GOG and just a few days ago on Steam.

I bought Mario 64 for 64 and DS and Ocarina on 64 and 3DS, no regrets there. Can't think of any others.

To answer the other question, I must have bought Starcraft at least five times.

That would be Civilization Revolution. For PS3, NDS and iOS.

Probably the only game I own three times. Cause it's a nice game, plus it was cheap on all three of 'em! I like the PS3 version best, would quadruple dip if it was to be ported to Vita, lol.

Halo. 2 of each game for system link co-op/multiplayer, including Halo Wars but not Halo 2.

And Sonic the Hedghog. I had a couple for the Game Gear and SMS, Sonic 2 for the MegaDrive and games were included in a few collections for CGN, Xbox and 360. Also Sonic Adventure 1&2 for Dreamcast.

I bought MGS3 like four times.

Snake Eater (PS2)
Subsistence (PS2)
The Essential Collection (PS2)
HD Collection (PS3)

Other games that come close

MGS2 (Sons of Liberty PS2) (The Essential Collection) (HD Collection)

Okami (PS2) (Wii) (PS3)

Mass Effect 2 (360) (PS3) (Mass Effect Trilogy PS3)
Mass Effect 3 (360) (PS3) (Mass Effect Trilogy PS3)

Dark Souls

PAL LE 360
PAL LE PS3
NTSC US LE PS3
PTDE 360
PTDE PC

Resident Evil 4

PAL Gamecube
PAL PS2
PAL Wii
HD version 360 GoD

Can't think of anything that exceeds two times, but there's quite a bunch that I've bought twice. Ocarina of Time might change that whenever I get the 3DS version, if the version that came with Wind Waker counts.

Street Fighter 4 . Im not sure if the iterations count , but I had bought SF4 Vanilla Xbox360 , SF4 Vanilla PC , SF4 AE xbox360 and SF4 AE PC .

Shin Megami Tensei 3:
Original Japanese release
LE Japanese boxset (still have the incense)
Maniax release
Maniax with Raidou version packed with Raidou 2

Code Veronica:
English HD
Japanese HD
PS2 Classics Japanese version
About to buy physical PS2 version while my PS3 is out of commission

If you include unlockable versions I own Metroid on: NES, NES classics on GBA, unlockable in Zero Mission, unlockable in Prime 1, 3DS ambassador program and on Wii VC which I will probably upgrade to Wii U.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably second on PS2, PS3 and 3DS.

That's a good question. There's probably at least two dozen games I bought three times with remakes/rereleases or VC, but more than that, I don't know. I keep everything, so there's no much need to do this. Maybe some unlockables games like Metroid, indeed.

The only game that made me triple-dip with only localization differences is Sakura Taisen V (bought the original JP version when it was published, the PS2 US version for the dual japanese/english, then the Wii EU version, which was mostly a way to show support)
