DS <3 Get yo heads outta yo asses, SNES fans, that's right I just threw DOWN
The DS is an amazing system, but there's nothing in the same league as the holy Mario/Zelda/Metroid trinity on it. Not even close, actually.

1. SNES
2. Nintendo DS
3. Wii
4. Game Boy Advance
5. Nintendo 64
6. GameCube
7. Game Boy
8. Game Boy Color
9. NES
10. Virtual Console

Note: The NES is so far down on the list solely because if I based this list on games that I would play today. Overall the NES' game catalog list is the most important of the bunch... it's just that I would much rather play a DS or Wii game.

Well, no-one remember the bad SNES games.

Bebe's Kids
Captain Novolin
Beethoven
Virtual Bart
Doom oh yeah I went there
Home Improvement

I guess licensed pap is kinda cheating, but there you have it. No shortage of awful games. It's just that most of them were self-evidently awful, there were no surprise awful games. And all in all I'd say fewer than 100 games out of the library were dreadful, which is a much better ratio (1 in 7) than most other systems

Nintendo 64DD.

F-Zero X + Expansion Kit is that good. believe!

in reality, if we go by games made on the system, it is a toss up between SNES and N64 for me (i played most of SNES great games on GBA since i practically missed that era outside a few mario games)

with BC factored in, it is between Wii and DS.

The NES without a doubt, so many great games. SNES doesnt even come close. SMB3 and the Mega Man are far superior anything on the SNES:P

MD>>>SNES

Well errr. DS lite plays GBA games and Wii with virtual console (and cube backwards compability) pretty much destroys every other game console's library without breaking a sweat.

It is hard to decide between SNES and NES. The advantages of SNES like fighting games were great then but are weak versions by today's standards.

N64 might be their best multiplayer system because of wrasslin and goldeneye.

Nintendo 64, easily.

SM64 and OoT alone would set that in stone. Add MK64, SSB64 and the Turok-games, and it´s not contest.

Wii for Nintendo consoles (yes, I'm including VC because that's how I roll).

Gameboy Color for handhelds because you get the great original Gameboy games and Camelot's GBC exclusive Mario Golf and Mario Tennis.

The SNES is the best console Nintendo has ever made, no if ands or buts about it. Its got a fantastic game line-up, one of the best of all time. No matter what genre you like, there's something worth playing on it. The only fault with the SNES is the US design is butt ugly. At least they somewhat fixed it with the SNES 2.

Great design (Japan\Europe)

Ugly box piece of crap design

Much better, but not as good as Japan\Europe

The DS is probably their best handheld.

Too many of you grew up on the SNES and is pushing your nostalgic minds.

N64 all the way.

Get N or Get Out.

When talking about a best system of all time, you have to take 3rd party games into account. What big 3rd party games did the N64 have? The N64, while having some good games, was down right pathetic in a lot of genres

Sports: Good
FPS: Good
Platformers: Good
Adventure (Zelda like): Good

Action: Average
RPG: Downright horrible (Quest 64, nuff said)

If anything, the N64 is pushing your nostalgic mind, that system gets way more love then it should. Its one of Nintendo's worst consoles, hands down, bar none.

The Nintendo 64 wasn't even the better system of its generation, let alone the best system Nintendo's ever made. The overall library is tiny (just 300 titles), the ratio of good to bad is worse than the SNES (particularly because that 300 titles is padded obscenely with terrible licensed games and forgettable annualized sports titles), and many of the system's gems suffer from aging quite poorly (JFG, CBFD, PD, and GE all suffer poor framerates, OOT suffers from just the ugliest blurriest textures imagineable and a fairly bad framerate, etc).

Of course, there's some great games. No doubt. But I don't think anyone can sincerely evaluate the entire library in aggregate as being better than the SNES.

Can I ask how old you are?

If the DS ever gets a 2D Metriod then it wins, tell then my vote is for SNES followed very closely by the DS. Blows my mind how much time I've put into DS games.

SNES and DS are very close. Very. However, I choose the SNES. My best gaming memories are with it, and if there is something the DS didn't match yet (personally) is getting together with friends to play games of all types.

NES is third, easily.

If you factor in Virtual Console, then Wii wins for me
If you're going to include emulation than PC wins hands down :p

The Nintendo console with the best original game library goes to SNES. Handheld probably GBA. Even with the monster sales the Wii is shaping up to have the worst original lineup of any Nintendo console. N64 and GC had it beat by far at this point of their lifespans.

Super NES by far. Its lineup of games is outstanding. Second place would either be N64 or NES, probably NES, but N64 had several AAA games.

Are you sure about that? Just about every major franchise that'd make you pick the N64 or the GC over the Wii has had a Wii sequel that's been received as warmly or more warmly than the original.

Wii has the best Zelda game and best Mario game so let's just go with that even if it doesn't have the best Metroid game.

Best console library: SNES
Worst: NGC

Best handled: NDS
Worst: VB

Overall:

1 - SNES
2 - NES
3 - DS
4 - GBA
5 - N64
7 - NGC
6 - GB/GBC
8 - VB

I think that's revisionism, or at least selective memory. The N64 and Gamecube both had some of the best games of their respective generations, but as far as sheer quantity their libraries were never anything to brag about. There were the same painful lulls in their release schedule as this generation, maybe even worse. Honestly, with SMG 2, S&P2, Other M and potentially Zelda Wii on the horizon I think the Wii is closing the gap pretty fast.

I think we're too much in the moment for the Wii to really take a good look at it now. I'm surprised so many people look back at the Gamecube fondly when it was so hated during that generation.

This point in the Gamecube's life would be May 2005. The only upcoming main releases were Chibi-Robo, Baten Kaitos Origins, Twilight Princess, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. And that's taking big or interesting third party games into account. The Wii has way more life in it still, with bigger names to boot.

It has every one worth caring about. Super Metroid on VC; MP1 and 2 adapted with motion controls; MP3; and soon Other M which will be the best Metroid game ever.

When people have some distance from the Wii and look at its library in its entirety without having to wait between releases I think it'll retroactively become the darling of enthusiasts. I have some issues with the way the console has been handled, yet I think the library doesn't really get the credit it deserves.

The wasteland that was 2008 really soured opinion on it for a lot of people. I can't blame them.

The second half of the year was awful, but like I said before, those sorts of software gaps are par for the course on every Nintendo system since the N64.

I say the Wii.

Plays Wii Games, GCN Games, and virtual console games so some of the best from the N64, SNES, NES, Neo Geo, Sega, PC Engine....

Why are some of you including Wii? Its library is still growing.

Virtual Console! A lot of people seem to want to downplay this feature, but being able to play Ys Books 1&2, Shining Force 2, Military Maddness, Paper Mario, and Mario Galaxy is nothing to scoff at.

Best Nintendo library, and I would argue best library of games this generation. Well, it would be anyway if the VC games were priced cheaper. Oh well. Nothing`s perfect.
